TF2 General Chat and Update Speculation Station - One of Several Edition

Heavy TF2/OW player:
Unlockable weapons are superior.
Say you like playing Soldier, but the enemy team has a fuckton of engineers and you can barely go anywhere, you can adapt soldier by equipping the Direct hit instead of swapping to Demoman.
Still playing nearly identically to regular Soldier, but more equipped for this situation.
On the flip side, if you like playing.. I dont know, Junkrat.
And the enemy team has a Pharah. Well thats just it. You're done, go play someone else. No Junkrat for you today.
I do think unlockable weapons are probably a lot more of a balancing mess on paper, but in practice they're way more fun.
Nice to see I stepped into the Overwatch general.
Seriously, though. I'm getting kind of tired of OW players claiming "You can't compare TF2 to Overwatch". You absolutely can, they're both FPS, Class Shooters and feature classes with similar abilites.
Regarding weapon unlocks and "expecting every single weapon to be viable competitively".
I'd much rather have some weapons be just dumb fun.
uhh. so somebody edited the Engineer's 2d Image on the wiki...

EDIT: nvm somebody got to it.
I did get a snip of it tho

And I'll be the guy sitting there with a viable loadout farming kills off of the people eating their steak and swinging their shovels.

QUICK, SOMEONE FIND OUT WHO HE IS AND GIVE HIM THE WIKI CAP HE DESERVES.
It deserves to be on pyro
The coordinator and the item server are down for me. Is absolutely nothing about to happen?
Edit: And they're back
Sometimes the GC and item server goes down. It's nothing to get excited about.
Its Tuesday. Steam functions go down for scheduled maintenance by bots around now every week.

he didn't even care to make a 3D version of the image, such lack of dedication
Do you think that, once the update is out, Valve will tell us why it took so long?
I know Valve isn't exactly known for transparency, but the TF2 team said that they're trying to communicate more. I think that some sort of post-update explanation would at least dampen the unrest in the community.
Unless the reason why the update took so long is super apparent once it hits (source 2???).
I still to this day do not understand why it's difficult for Valve to communicate. I was playing with one of the LawBreakers developers the other day, and he was completely forthcoming about their projects and their opinions on the low player counts, all the while being personable to boot.

Unfortunately it seems that there's a very, well un-fine line when it comes to talking. There's a point between dead silence and telling your players everything that starts hype and rumors if you're not careful, then we get shit like EOTL where people thought we were getting 100 weapons. Valve just thinks the solution is to be totally quiet.

I am thoroughly convinced Valve only hires socially awkward nerds who will disintegrate into a pile of damp rags should they be forced out of their comfort zone and try to communicate with human beings.

If you don't say anything, you can't be misquoted.

Exactly.
Anyone see this post about hackers seeming able to crash game clients? https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/6vdbp4/psa_advanced_hacking_be_on_the_look_out/
If true hopefully Valve patches whatever exploit is being used and manually VAC ban whoever was doing it.

so far it's a problem of 1 person, nothing suggests it isn't just his PC, and no, having no malware doesn't mean you shouldn't have any problems.
no one else claimed that he experienced it, if it's true that there are cheats that could crash your game, you'd see hundreds of posts on r/tf2
I mean, for some reason TF2 recently crashes my laptop every time I alt tab, could it be hax?
do we have any hope for news wednesday/thursday, or do you guys think august out of the picture completely?

Yeah it could be just an individual issue but we definitely need to watch out for more reports of this because it does seem like something that's possible if someone found some sort of buffer overflow type of exploit.
do we have any hope for news wednesday/thursday, or do you guys think august out of the picture completely?
I think there's a pretty close to 0% chance of it happening this week due to i61, next week is likely the earliest it could be.

Looking at the raffle and the like, half of this thread is putting their hopes to the last week of august since toweek is i61.
All you should expect this week is a witty guttenberg joke.
Or Valve can ignore i61 and release the update when it's completed anyway because we've waited long enough already. 1% of the game cares about i61--the rest of us want our update. Valve had their chance to ship it months prior.

September. First fortnight. Gut feeling.

I'm pretty sure they've did something like that for a DotA tournament. It was like less than a month before it happened.

S-so cool~
I can't realize that TF2 is 10...
Does AcesGamer/Aegis still play TF2?
I'm interested in what happened the all the old school TF2 YouTubers.
We all know what happened to:
STAR_ = Overwatch
Jerma = Mostly streaming
Shibby = Works for Machinima or whatever they're called
Last I heard AcesGamer was focusing on Competitive and started re-uploading on YouTube, but he hasn't posted anything in 5 months. Wondering what happened to him. According to his steam profile, he hasn't been playing any games at all in the past 2 weeks.
Did he quit TF2 or just probably busy IRL?

It still feels like a reasonably fresh game to me, the art style has held up really well.
