Or Valve can ignore i61 and release the update when it's completed anyway because we've waited long enough already. 1% of the game cares about i61--the rest of us want our update. Valve had their chance to ship it months prior.
Apparently they aren't done.
Which, either means it's 400+ days worth of update quality, or they're apathetic, underfunded procrastinators who don't play the game, and roll their desks to where the money is.
I'll let you guys guess which outcome is more likely.
I think the outcome will be apparent with the quality of the update itself
Happy 10th anniversary TF2 :toot:
I opened TF2 right now, no signs of birthday hat drop for me. Am I just condemned to live without a virtual cone hat in a game?

Timezones my man. And they might make it the birthday mode tomorrow instead.
Edit: SPECULATION:
What if they didn't make the Birthday Mode automatically happen because they want to enable it with the Pyro Update? HYYPPPEEEE (not really)

That's in October, this is for TFC's 21st anniversary.

I don't even have it. It's the first day I open TF2 during birthday mode in 4 years. Every year during birthday mode I'm always not at home and unable to get that infamous cone hat, but this year will be different

Oh well, I'll try later then. I'm not home all the day so I left my PC turned on to control it over smartphone and open TF2. :v: A well made plan I guess
It is my hope that the update is good enough that those Youtubers will all come crawling back.
It is also my hope that the update is good enough, to make us overlook how broken the game will become.
Yesterday Quake Champions was released on Steam.
[t]https://www.imglnx.com/i/qNOhOy.png[/t]
This is what appears when you open the game: some messages from Quake regarding new features, contents and upcoming events.
When closed, these messages stay on a little banner in the main menu (Similar to TF2's store preview banner)
Personally I would love to have this kind of stuff on the menu: it could promote the competitive scene of TF2 in a better way than a small message on the left mid-match 5 minutes before a match. If the update was earlier, regardless of the "previous build for tournaments possible or not" topic, a big announcement about i61 would have been awesome IMHO.

[t /t] your image please so they don't take up the entire page.
Also correct me if I'm wrong but the birthday cone is being given out later, right? Or does that happen right with birthday mode?

I'm sure most TF2 youtubers will come back, even if only for a twitch stream or two.
Question is will this update keep them coming back?
and that's in April, this is QWTF 21st anniversary
see this is why I usually don't try to correct people

Is birthday mode actually enabled on valve servers currently? I hope 2016 wasn't the last chance to get it
Is birthday mode actually enabled on valve servers currently? I hope 2016 wasn't the last chance to get it
its enabled and there is a birthday football, but last year they pushed an update (23.8.18) to add the hats for the players who havent got them, there is still plenty of time for the patch
Too early guys. Even if from 2015-2016 the birthday mode started in August 23rd, this might be different. I mean, it's not even August 24rd, 4 AM of August 23rd in Valve timezone, and they might have to create a patch to get these Party hats distributed.

Today is the day and tonight is the night.

If they do have to put out a patch to give new players the hat I hope they add teasers to some maps for the Pyro/Jungle update.

This would be really cool, but I'd prefer they spend their time finishing the update rather than doing stuff like that. Well, unless the Update is so far away that they feel it won't significantly affect their "schedule". Or if it's done and their keeping it for after the i61, which we all know is unlikely.
the master of last hitting

how do you even do that?
by last hitting
as a moba player
people calling overwatch a 'moba amalgamation' is just weird, and it's entirely because of the character differentiation, even though overwatch does not have:
1. a leveling system of any kind
2. a secondary evolution system (i.e. gold for items, cards, talents, something)
3. any kind of traditional 3-laned w/ jungle map or an acceptable derivative (two lanes with center jungle, one lane with side jungle, one big lane within a moba paradigm, anything)
4. any sort of rts-like control
as well as the facts that:
5. you aren't locked to your character selection for the duration of the match
6. the conditions of the match, abilities of the characters, and statistics of the characters do not change at any point in the match
That reminds me I really hope they change some score stuff.
Extinguishing someone shouldn't give you a point. There are times where I am "top scoring" yet 70% of my points are purely extinguishing.
How in the world does airblasting ubered targets not give you any points?
And why does your entire scoring process of pushing a payload get reset if you leave the area even for a single milisecond.
That's something I really dig about overwatch, no action gets unrewarded by the "Fire" system.

That's a valuable action though and should earn you points. I agree that air blasting ubered targets should also award points. One is a friendly assist and the other is a form of shutdown.

There are alternatives. Make airblasting someone three times give you a point, instead of each airblast being 1 point.

In a nutshell, Overwatch is TF2 with moba inspired characters and abilities.
[editline]23rd August 2017[/editline]
I think the people who say that confused overwatch with battleborn
In a nutshell, Overwatch is TF2 with moba inspired characters and abilities.
Overwatch takes from dozens of games and genres, seeing cooldowns and an ultimates "which also existed before mobas" and assuming moba is incredibly narrow minded and shows poor insight as to how games are developed.
Pharah was influenced by tribes and quake, McCree was based off of a fun from a half life mod, 76 is based around typical military shooters, D.va was inspired by titanfall.
