Overwatch takes from dozens of games and genres, seeing cooldowns and an ultimates "which also existed before mobas" and assuming moba is incredibly narrow minded and shows poor insight as to how games are developed. Pharah was influenced by tribes and quake, McCree was based off of a fun from a half life mod, 76 is based around typical military shooters, D.va was inspired by titanfall.
In a nutshell, broad strokes. The ability system probably originated from titan, but when put in competetive multiplayer they give the general pacing and teamplay of the combat a moba feel.
Speaking of overwatch and comparing it to other games https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJ4v2LgVlEA

Pharah's mobility has no where near the depth of tribes and amounts to nothing more than a slow hover. One of the game's biggest problems is that they take something cool from another game, which is fine, but keep none of the actual mechanics and skill requirement that make it fun. They're only now giving Dva the ability to shoot while flying, something super fun that you think would have always been there. Let's get back on the subject of TF2; I wonder if the Jungle SFM is going to add to the lore at all.
Just got an update for tf2, but nothing on the webpage EDIT: http://imgur.com/tca2Og1
Just got an update for tf2, but nothing on the webpage EDIT: http://imgur.com/tca2Og1
That's steam being weird. It would be interesting if it actually had a size, but 0kb is a generic bug.
;52603481']Does AcesGamer/Aegis still play TF2? I'm interested in what happened the all the old school TF2 YouTubers. We all know what happened to: STAR_ = Overwatch Jerma = Mostly streaming Shibby = Works for Machinima or whatever they're called Last I heard AcesGamer was focusing on Competitive and started re-uploading on YouTube, but he hasn't posted anything in 5 months. Wondering what happened to him. According to his steam profile, he hasn't been playing any games at all in the past 2 weeks. Did he quit TF2 or just probably busy IRL?
Acesgamer plays on on DK, which is one of the best highlander teams in North America at the moment. He changed his name to aegis a while back while he was playing competitive. He might not be be active right now but he's been play high levels of competitive Highlander for a while. I'm positive he hasn't quit TF2. There's no real indication of that, he must be taking a small break
I hope star_ starts making videos for his main channel again, his "basically" series and miscellaneous gaming videos were really good.
as a moba player people calling overwatch a 'moba amalgamation' is just weird, and it's entirely because of the character differentiation, even though overwatch does not have: 1. a leveling system of any kind 2. a secondary evolution system (i.e. gold for items, cards, talents, something) 3. any kind of traditional 3-laned w/ jungle map or an acceptable derivative (two lanes with center jungle, one lane with side jungle, one big lane within a moba paradigm, anything) 4. any sort of rts-like control as well as the facts that: 5. you aren't locked to your character selection for the duration of the match 6. the conditions of the match, abilities of the characters, and statistics of the characters do not change at any point in the match
It's because, at any moment, you're playing a character with a set variety of abilities, where skill plays no role executing them, and the only thing distinguishing good players from bad players is positioning and timing (you don't see someone doing a cool rocket jump or get a nice kill, the only way to assume they're good is their performance in the match overall). This means if you're caught in a bad position, you will die, no skill is going to save you.
I hope star_ starts making videos for his main channel again, his "basically" series and miscellaneous gaming videos were really good.
he should just quit Overwatch and exclusively make videos making fun of weird Food Network shows like Sweet Genius
If the quality and quantity of support for a new game is superior to what we have now, why would you feel one isn't needed?
Because I don't give a shit about a new game, I give a shit about Team Fortress 2. I like the characters, mechanics, and maps we already have, while a new game would have completely different things, because otherwise it wouldn't be a new game.
I hope star_ starts making videos for his main channel again, his "basically" series and miscellaneous gaming videos were really good.
Why not continue this discussion in his latest video's comment section where a dude saying exactly this got 2.4K likes? I mean it's a bit more relevant there and he can actually see it.
The heatmaker is definitely one of the best weapons in MVM, of course it would work!
What about the four huntsmans?
they can tauntkill the giants
What about the four huntsmans?
headshots, reload, pierce, map with most ammo crates, steel trap mission, etc lots of factors that make this easily possible

Why doesn't the TF team ever fix the birthday beachball because whenever you hit it it turns invisible for a second then re-appears again, that and changing the texture to say 20th b-day?
Why doesn't the TF team ever fix the birthday beachball because whenever you hit it it turns invisible for a second then re-appears again, that and changing the texture to say 20th b-day?
Found your problem.

No Steve Guttenberg?
No Steve Guttenberg?
Very early for that.
Happy birthday to the game thats made me super happy and pissed me off to all hell. smh
This means if you're caught in a bad position, you will die, no skill is going to save you.
... if you think skill plays no role in executing any moba ability then you are incorrect. sure, the vast majority of them don't require twitch aim (although some do require the rts-perspective equivalent, twitch button-pressing-- see very micro-intensive characters in DOTA such as Meepo or to a lesser degree Earth Spirit), but many of them do require aim on targets who have any number of options to move away, teleport, dash, sprint, etc. etc. it's just that this skill tends to be intimately connected to things like positioning and timing because range and interactions between abilities are fundamental to combat, as well as the fact that the levels of strategy that concern team positioning and ability coordination directly determine the effectiveness of certain abilities.
Well since the sub forum and weapon thread is dead: Give heavy a primary that only has 1 ammunition, and allows heavy to place a pumpkin bomb within a 2 foot radius of himself. might not be a competitive oriented tool or even very good but it would at least be fun. Who doesn't want sandvich supply drops anyways?
