Dear Team Fortress Dream Diary, last night I dreamt Valve made a short blogpost explaining how they made a single cosmetic item for Engineer that tied into the short they made (it was some kind of cream spirit work jacket/vest). The night before I dreamt that people predicted the update was near because of some change to Dota 2 acronyms (specifically, some in-game phrase like "ggwp" was changed to mean the same thing with different letters), which somehow meant the TF2 update was near. I think my subconscious is trying to justify anything as proving the TF2 update is near.
Nobody will ask you to stay if you dont want to be here. If you're still expecting people to beg you to stay and enjoy valve then i have bad news for you.
Well if you want me to leave FP there's no reason to beat around the bush hah. But in all seriousnes, this is pro-valve sentiment is suprisingly common elsewhere. Of course I realize this is a place for pessimism, I'm not blind. Although, I do have one sliver of hope. The more we hold valve accountable for their failings, the tougher we are on them, perhaps with some measure of luck, they'll re-connect the internet to their office and maybe read the "these valve games are dying/dead" threads written by their player base for the past decade, and do something about it. But I'm doubtful about that.
Surprised no one mentioned it but [t]https://files.catbox.moe/ufuwga.png[/t] They did do an in-game announcement.
At least they're doing that. Also, speaking of valve and vaporware updates, PC Gamer seems to have thrown their hat into the speculation ring, and called the pyro update for October 10th, the TF2 birthday.
Yes let's have Halloween conflict with another community event, we all know how well that worked for item contributors last time (it didn't).
Yes let's have Halloween conflict with another community event, we all know how well that worked for item contributors last time (it didn't).
I'd dig a Pyroween event, but out of curiosity, assume I wasn't there when a Halloween and Community Event happened around the same time. What went wrong?
Why would you "dig" such a late release window?
Why would you "dig" such a late release window?
why not?
Do I really have to answer that?
Do I really have to answer that?
You shouldnt have made that question to begin with
It's rhetorical. It's unfathomable why anyone that actually cares about TF2 would desire to see the update delayed simply for the "poetry" of coinciding with TF2's birthday; you should be wanting to see the update released right this minute.
Why would you "dig" such a late release window?
With ep3 being literally dead a major update to tf2 would be heaven by this point.
Why would you "dig" such a late release window?
I'm gonna be completely honest, I just like the crappy pun.
I'd dig a Pyroween event, but out of curiosity, assume I wasn't there when a Halloween and Community Event happened around the same time. What went wrong?
Scream Fortress 2015 conflicted with Invasion. I don't think it's too hard to see how that could mess with item revenue for the latter.
Why would you "dig" such a late release window?
Its already been 400+ days. I think we're beyond "late releases"
Has it really been over 400 days since Meet your Match? Holy heck lol
I feel like this will be the year without a Scream Fortress. > If the update released around now / september, the contracts would not even be halfway done by the time Halloween arrives. (Basically nullifying Merasmissions unless the new system allows multiple campaigns at once.) > The Jungle portion of the update would fight with Scream Fortress damaging revenue for content creators. > Content creators (possibly) aren't able to work in such a short time span between TWO updates. (Only about one month which can limit quality of submissions) > Valve won't make their own SF content. In 2015, they chose MyM over SF and last year they've chose the Pyro update over SF. SF is very low on their priority list. > The only thing they would be able to do is re-activate the old events and maybe add a small case that will likely destroy item servers for a day. I hope I'm wrong, but with the Pyro Update entering September, I have hopes really low. It would be interesting to see the flak the TF Team would get if they flat-out did nothing for SF.
i reckon that we're never going to see a real scream fortress update again beyond community items/maps + activating old events/contracts they're struggling this hard to get out the first update of the year, if this is the kind of development cycle they choose to continue for the foreseeable future then halloween is dead.
the thing is they aren't failures. look at steam and their billions dollars
Being complacent will lead them to failure.
Does it matter that the tf2 team put the i61 and 21 birthday blogposts not in the news section but in the blog itself?
Does it matter that the tf2 team put the i61 and 21 birthday blogposts not in the news section but in the blog itself?
Birthday posts are always normal blog posts. Valve posted about i58 on the main blog last year.
I found out an interesting bug the other night. If you apply a vacc uber on a disguised enemy spy, not only the Resistance icon will remain on top of his head after the uber fades away but also will appear after he loses his disguise and even if he's fully invisible, until he's dead.
They are competent and not out of touch. They don't give a crap. Time and time again people look at them like on usual gamedev company that should release sequels, that should communicate to community, that should maintain their games. Instead, we have to look at them as on black box that sometimes produces interesting things. They work for themselves and structured entirely around benefitting their employees. If they do something that we like - that's good, but if they want to develop entirely new revolutionary type of fidget spinners for next decade - there is no stopping them. People like their older games so much that they built sort of attachment to the company, which is wrong, because in no way valve is attached to us. I'm glad that at least skeleton crew stayed on TF2, because be their wish they could turn their back on us any moment and that would be perfectly okay from company's standpoint. In no way i excuse them for bad decisions, but only expressing my thankfulness that at least some people care about us at least a slight bit.
I wonder if any work on Team Fortress 3 has even begun or at least been humored by Valve.

They may have had worked on halloween map in the background but they also may have not done any work for halloween. Atleast not untill they get the current update done.
I wonder if any work on Team Fortress 3 has even begun or at least been humored by Valve.
That'd be work, and work on something less popular than Dota or VR. And we all know how valve is about work to begin with.
[thumb]http://www.sourceop.com/hell-met/golden.jpg[/thumb] this really bothers me more than it should.
That issue only exists with HDR enabled. Anyway, I spent like 5 minutes making a fixed version (just a VMT edit): [THUMB]https://i.imgur.com/vW859UU.png[/THUMB] Also includes a fix for crit/minicrit glows not showing up on the weapon.
Its already been 400+ days. I think we're beyond "late releases"
Sooner the better.
If they're saving it for the decade update, at least I hope they mean september 17th not october
