You shouldn't feel ashamed for playing a video game, if you find it fun, you find it fun. There's nothing wrong with that.
The only reason why I feel ashamed playing it is that I feel like i'm slowly abandoning TF2 by playing it. All of my friends have given up on TF2 entirely because of OW and I don't want to fully abandon TF2.

Don't worry you'll be back.

The only reason you'd give up on tf2 is if you lost your interest in it entirely, I'm sure that once more life is breathed into the game you'll be able to come back to it no problem. And if not, then there's nothing wrong with that, its understandable to get bored of even your favorite game. Heck, sometimes some time away from the game will only help you stay interested in it in the long run.
Plus, it's not like Overwatch will hold you at gun point and force you to play it instead of tf2. :v:
Also Tyler I wanted to say I'm sorry to hear you got screwed over by the not suitable for all advertisers issue with your Half Life 3 video, I'm sure you lost a bunch of ad revenue on that and I'm sure it's heart breaking to earn almost nothing on a video with so many views. Hopefully Youtube will work out the issues with their automated system soon because if they don't I imagine all big videogame Youtubers will be leaving for Twitch.

Yeah i've stopped playing TF2 for long periods of time in the past until the next major update, I guess the update drought is just affecting me. To be completely honest I do the same with Overwatch sometimes between major updates.
Just to cover all bases, let's go with the hypothetical scenario of the Email being real and by a map maker - even though the chances of that being true are minimal.
Based on prior map releases and the like and the info we got of a few devs, Valve picks maps a few days to a few weeks before an update hits. We don't know if the maps the email talks about was picked just a day ago, or an entire week ago, however I'm gonna assume it's recent, given the person would most likely send this as soon as they heard about it.
Which means that this week is kind of unlikely and next week is a much better candidate, unless the email was sent a few days after the map was selected.
Then again it's an anon email and could be full of shit, it could release today or in 3 weeks. The only rough ETA is the "Lots of time before October" ...

I've been playing the original Quake for the first time. I sincerely regret not playing this sooner because it's amazing. Quad damage is the best powerup ever.

Huh... lots of time before October? That's what Valve said, right? Expect it in December then.

Another set of donation items for Texas Hurricane relief would be a great idea. Who knows if the TF2 team is up for something like that again though.
I can almost hear Tarzan Boy playing in the distance - for real this time.
That moment when you get excited on reading about maps picked and phone showing 1 new email waiting. NOPE.
One of the secondary developers of Catbots (not Cat himself) has allegedly quit TF2 and is no longer working on the hack.

Why is casual matchmaking called matchmaking if it doesn't actually make matches and instead continues to consistently people who have just started playing the game against people with thousands of hours?
[editline]30th August 2017[/editline]
It's literally just quickplay with finer map controls and also usually slower.

it does make feeble attempts to put people with equal ranks on opposing teams
also the current implementation is a failure, that's not a secret
Casual matchmaking right now feels like playing a 6v6 with the rest of the players on both sides being distractions/meatshields.

Realizing what my problems with Overwatch are, playing Pen'n'Papers and trying to convince myself to study for the incoming exam period.
Oh, I'm also blasting through the DooM'16 OST on repeat.
Honestly regarding all those hack developers saying that they will no longer be working on TF2 hacks - I highly doubt their word on this worth a penny. They will return once the Pyro update comes out since a lot of kids will be interested in cheating in tf2 again.
So, unless Valve will start a completely new policy against hackers, they will continue doing what they used to.

This isn't the first time Lithium has allegedly stopped development. They seem to have went all out and deleted the whole Discord server this time though so who knows?

They can make a new one anytime, literally nothing stops them from doing so
What have people been doing to get their mind off the wait?
Mostly playing TF2, but at the end of this month switched to L4D and Half-Life series.

Of course they can and I won't be surprised if they will. At least while it's gone there's no way for anyone to get up-to-date versions of the damn thing.

I have been working on my pc game. Wondering if I get the alpha version out before the update hits.

Surprisingly I got more productive, getting back to writing my 2-year-old tf2 fanfic
Also, Darkest Dungeon, bought it last year but these days it kind of sucked me in.

Been playing loads of other games from my backlog in the past 18 months or so - I've realized that being a dedicated player of games like TF2 kinda leads to putting in thousands of hours of your spare time, which, combined with studies, work or real-life, leads to never finding much time or passion to play through all the cool single-player gaming experiences out there.
Like, when I largely stopped playing TF2 around the spring of last year, I suddenly found the time and passion to play dozens of games in my Steam Library that I had ignored for years - Wolfenstein New Order and Old Blood, Dishonored, Talos Principle, LA Noire, Max Payne 3, all three Dead Space games, Bulletstorm etc. All really fun and refreshing experiences, I didn't realize how much I was just stuck in a (fun but repetitive and somewhat stale) habit feeling like I had to/was missing out if I wasn't playing TF2 at least a bit every week.
I think the advent of multiplayer titles that are supported and receive new content for many years, coupled with the huge monetary investment and emotional/nostalgic attachment that cosmetic microtransactions and familiar characters represent for many long-time players, has lead to loads of gamers these days only really focusing on one or two major MP titles, ignoring most other games or ignoring most new entries into the genre, even if they're rather good and different.
See Dota 2 and LoL, or TF2 and Overwatch, or CSGO, or Hearthstone... I feel like the market in those genres is saturated as hell and very unfriendly to newer entries like Lawbreakers, Battleborn, Paladins etc, or the many other moba or card games that have failed to make an impact or are simply left to fight for the crumbs fallen of the few established big players' tables...
tl,dr: loads of moba and FPS games have managed to establish business models and the 'culture' of 'having' to play constantly and regulary in order for many players to not feel like they're missing out on drops, or losing out on their matchmaking rank, or leaving behind their precious cosmetics and emotional attachment to their favorite characters etc.
Kinda feels refreshing at the moment to be a guy playing quality SP games at my own leisure.

One positive thing about the update drought is the fact that some hack developers are quitting TF2.
