TF2 General Chat and Update Speculation Station - One of Several Edition

Maybe Valve will release the update on my birthday like the Mann-Conomy Update and Portal 2 soundtrack! (Don't do that Valve, release it tomorrow please.)
:surrender:
I mean, we could always pull a diretide, sure its unprofessional but that's been the only reliable way to get valve to do... Well anything. Dota players did this because valve skimped out on a single tournament/update. On this side of the fence seconds are ticking like boulders and its been a whole year since any real content has come out. Eh.
Dota 2 also has about 10x the ammount of players as TF2.
TF2 doesn't matter to Valve in the grand scheme of things. Hell TF2 isn't even in the top 5 of most played steam games anymore, while DOTA2 and CSGO are.

The only reason TF2 isn't top 5 anymore is because it hasn't had any new content in a year.

You mistake the power of a community organized botspam.

Hat sales matter 10x more than player base to Valve I would imagine. That said I doubt hat sales are doing very well with this drought but we don't know that for sure.

I think it's less botspam for DotA's numbers and more of how the game has a large audience in China, along with other countries.

If you actually look at "the grand scheme of things", tf2 is doing amazing.
It's still in the top 20 most profitable games on steam, and made more money than Deus Ex mankind divided or Watch Dogs 2 in 2016. And both of thoses games were brand new AAA releases with a huge marketing budget when tf2 is a 10 yo shooter. That's more money than most game studios earn, for one single game. Very few devs can dream of making as much money as tf2 in a year, even without updates. Of course valve cares if tf2 dies.
Btw don't forget other companies give a 30% cut to valve when selling their games on steam, but for tf2 and their other games valve keeps ofc 100%, so they make dosh more efficiently than other devs on their plaftform. Which makes sense.
And that's just talking about money, and while games are a lot about money, they're not entirely about money. Reducing the health of a game to wether or not it's #1 on the money charts makes no sense.
See you guys next week :(
See you guys next week :(

Next month*
You are correct, next week is also next month.
Holy fuck it's gonna be September.
Next month*
in December*
Well, guys, it's the first time, when there is no update in summer. But who knows? Tomorrow is the last hope (in Russia it will be Friday and in some other parts of the world it will be still Thursday).

There was an update in summer, don't you remember Mannpower mode?
Oh hey ran into some catbox hackers again, had a funny moment when one of them realised that his hacks weren't working on me while I was taunting.
I ran into them again later and got kicked because I know how to get around them :v:.
Is it just me or is Catbot easier, comparably speaking, to deal with than other hacks? Like it is not 100% accurate, players using it has like a 90-95% hitrate.
VAC really is one of the jokes of the anticheat world. It doesn't matter if your hack was detected years ago, it does nothing to "secure" the user experience against hackers since they all get a free period to cheat and make new accounts in before getting a delayed ban *after* they've ruined everyone's fun.
Hardware bans, community flagging, machine learning (promised, but only for CSGO), even legal subpoenas against the worthless gremlins who develop cheats are the tools of modern game security.
Yet valve remains in the dark ages.
Only way something might change is if we spam them with emails as usual.

Hardware bans would be nice. They can be worked around but it would stop some people.
I imagine we'll see the machine learning system come to TF2 eventually, I can't imagine them just making it just for CSGO.
Valve suing cheat creators would be a great thing to do (if they can discover who create them). Blizzard has won cases against cheat creators so Valve should pursue this if possible.
A couple of small in game things I would like to see would be the ability to spectate your team on casual mode. I can understand why they don't want you to spectate the enemy but if someone on your team is called out as a hacker and they're not an obvious one it can be hard to tell if they're actually cheating or not without spectating them. Another nice small thing is if an account (especially a new one) has has a lot of reports of cheating and has been kicked for cheating in other games then kicking them should be easier, maybe require only 5 votes out of 12 instead of a majority. Maybe the more reports/kicks for cheating the easier it would be to kick someone for cheating so it could get down to only needing a couple of votes if you have enough reports/kicks. Eventually of course if VAC doesn't ban them it will lead to the 1 year ban.
Well now we can be certainly 100% sure that there is absolutely no hope left for this summer.

Summer doesn't officially end until 22 September, so there is still time.

You are technically correct but I think most people would consider June, July and August to be summer with September, October and November to be Fall.

The first half of september still feels like summer, at least here.
For video games, summer ends when the school year begins.

I agree with that but I'm just saying that if the update comes out before then, it can still really be called a summer update. Even if it doesn't feel like it.
Due to how long it's been worked on, I have a feeling there will be a few "one more things" as part of the update. I would love to see the return of a quickplay-like feature that connects to community servers, like a registration system to keep an archive of all community run servers. What is a realistic, yet completely not discussed feature you would like to see?

...a new server browser.
Also, have an interesting tinfoil hat by Dane himself.
The revival of replays would be pretty cool imo.
Will every future update take this long?!?
