Will every future update take this long?!?
most likely will be delayed further until the release of Artifact.

Pretty sure they are just moving to add space for their VR projects and existing employees. I don't really think they care enough to restructure management.
Due to how long it's been worked on, I have a feeling there will be a few "one more things" as part of the update. I would love to see the return of a quickplay-like feature that connects to community servers, like a registration system to keep an archive of all community run servers. What is a realistic, yet completely not discussed feature you would like to see?
I don't think they would would do this without telling us in advanced, but if we don't get a Source 2 ports what about upgrading the game to be 64 bit? I doubt many people only have 32 bit OSs anymore and 64 bit could probably fix some things like the limit on entities. Or maybe moving the game to a CSGO's version of Source if it's newer? Again though they would probably let us know about changes like that.
The other thing is maybe issues with upgrading casual matchmaking with the ability to join people in game and party up with them? Also to create parties via groups with CSGO? Possibly fully integrating the Valve servers with Steam Datagram Relay? Matchmaking stuff seems to has given them a lot of problems in the past.
The revival of replays would be pretty cool imo.
It's weird they haven't been able to integrate demos with the replay system maybe I'm wrong but they seem very similar, recreating games in engine.

I think Dane is really reaching since we've heard nothing about changing management. Hopefully they hire more people though.
People have to remember Valve is 20 years old, some are probably near retirement, others may just want new challenges. Some may be unhappy with Valve.
8 hours left to the end of august in europe, so tonight is the night or september is the chosen month?
One other engine change I could see them trying to do that could cause problems and delays would be to move some tasks off the CPU and onto the GPU to hopefully get the game to run better.
8 hours left to the end of august in europe, so tonight is the night or september is the chosen month?
Unless they go for a Friday release/One day release, It's September. Sadly.
It shouldn't but that completely shady and stupid VNN email is giving me strength for next week, probably foolish but the straws im grasping on are slowly running out :frown:

I don't get the point of this kind of post. Ik people made a meme out of Artifact although we barely know anything about it yet. It still doesn't have anything to do with what the tf team is working on.
One thing casual should have is music during the waiting time, or being able to view your inventory, or a minigame.

Exacly, doest people know that valve is internally divided in independent development teams and thus artifact wont affect the other games development?
Not a single public image of the game and people dislike it so much already for no reason
School has already started in just about every place I know.
I am seriously dumbfounded that the TF team let the entire summer go to waste without updating the game.

You're talking about changing root inerworkings of a 13 year old engine (based on an even older engine (based on an even older engine)). This not only risks breaking too many games (HL2+Episodes, CS:S, CS:GO, DoD:S, TF2, L4D1+2, Portal1+2, others I'm missing) but would also be a big undertaking for the engine team in Valve, which is currently working on Source2.
There's always the hope of having a specific Source dev-branch dedicated to TF2, but this isn't how Valve's been doing it so far. Every time a Source Update hits, all your installed Source games and tools will download it.
By the way, does Dota2 still have a Source1 client or have they moved to Source2 completely?
One thing casual should have is music during the waiting time, or being able to view your inventory, or a minigame.
It already has a minigame

It's called Badge Clicker
Seriously though, i remember they promised to allow people do other things during matchmaking search

Uncle Dane described it as:
"Kind of like Overwatch"
for now, you can always type open_charinfo in the console to open your backpack while you wait
yeah, it's clunky, but it's all we've got right now
Or you know, you can minimize the game and do something else while it searches you for the game. It notifies you when you found the game while you are minimized.
also extremely relevant rn

There is still a chance for September certainly, but maybe not a friday release.
Maybe Jay Pinkerton will release the update as a genderswapped fanfiction on his twitter.

I can't wait to read the beautiful FemSpyX...What's the opposite of Pyro?

Not everyone has powerhouses that can handle un-minimizing TF2, since it seemingly unloads all assets at minimizing.
Also, on the topic of calculation capacity and previously discussed modding friendliness - i wish they would also allow to modify particles, since explosions freeze up my pc (not freeze per se, but dropping to 30 is noticeable), especially on shit maps like suijin, and i main Demo. And it's even worse when fighting pyro, because not only you can't see shit when they WM1 you, but also fps drops significantly due to 100500 animated flame particles being rendered
Another thing Id add to my point about tf2 doing actually great in terms of revenue if you actually look at the bigger picture : Look at all the games on the steam top gross revenue 100 list that made less money than tf2 in 2016, while taking years to be made, having hundreds of devs working on them, dozens of millions in budget and huge marketing campaigns.
Yet Tf2 made more dosh that year than theses games with only 10-20 devs and the support of community creators, and only one major update. Undertale or Stardew Valley probably have a higer revenue/dev ratio, but it's still an insanely efficient way to make money for valve.
And it doesn't matter that tf2 makes 10 million dosh when dota makes 100 million. Compared to the efforts and ressources required to release a brand new next gen single player game with a flat fee, it's super easy money for them. Micro transactions just makes more money with less ressources and they realised that long ago.
Just look at all the ways valve makes money with tf2 : Keys/Cases/keyless crates, MvM tickets (someone paid valve about $4 in tickets for every single killstreak kit ever created), the 10% Fee on valve games steam market transactions (only 5% for other games btw), Anything else on the Mann Co Store (backpack expanders, paints, taunts, tools, even full price hats and weapons - the only way content creators get actually their 25% cut nowadays - etc...), Campaign Passes, Comp passes...when games with a flat fee have only 1 way to make money.
Some microtransactions in the mann co store are more expensive than cheap games.

I don't remember how that fullscreen mode is called but It lets you access desktop without minimizing the game.
I don't remember how that fullscreen mode is called but It lets you access desktop without minimizing the game.
Borderless Window maybe?
I don't remember how that fullscreen mode is called but It lets you access desktop without minimizing the game.
It's borderless windowed, but it only works if game's resolution matches monitor's, which again isn't the case with everyone (and i think most of the players) since again - TF2 runs like sandpaper over concrete. Of course there are ways to do other things if matchmaking being extra neat fast again, but what i am saying is that there should be built in solution
Some microtransactions in the mann co store are more expensive than cheap games.
It bothers me too. Mann Co store is so expensive that i wonder how it generates revenue on things other than tools. Though it's perfectly in lore since Saxton Hale is... not genius, in regards to business particularly

-Overwatch-style anti-hacker system (CS:GO Overwatch, not the shitty Blizzard game), coupled with...
-Prime matchmaking for Casual, allowing users with linked phone numbers to play separately from those without.
These two things combined would drastically combat the hacker problem. Hackers couldn't just create new free accounts to get into the Prime matchmaking queue, as they'd need new phone numbers.
RIP all the kiddos without a phone
Maybe there could be a $5 Prime pass or something (maybe make it so the comp pass works for both).

You can run in borderless windowed without it being fullscreen.
[editline]31st August 2017[/editline]
Or change your screen resolution.

It nullifies the purpose. Hackers repeatedly buy CS:GO on new accounts, and it worth tiny bit more than $5.
Also i wonder how many people would do overwatches for TF2. I don't play CS, but i heard this feature is basicly unused

Hell, i love staring into little square taking up under 60% of my screen. And i already said that not everyone run full resolution since it's helps to improve performance. I understand that you can't have it all, but we are running from one problem to another

Give a chance of an item drop from doing valid overwatch, accounting for abusing the system, and I think there wouldn't be much of a shortage then.

As I said, you could also change your screen resolution to be the same resolution you run the game in.
