I have a feeling if Dane is fucking with us with that date, his fans are going to tear him a new one.
At least we'll have someone else to go after if the rumor turns out false.
Honestly I don't think Valve would give Dane a date and let him release it unless they were 100% sure it was correct date.
all it takes is a tf2 youtuber to release a tweet with a hidden message to give me a heart attack.
*tentatively hyped*

I'd still say keep the hype down till it actually happens regardless... Unforeseen consequences and so forth...
weird, random thought:
heavy the character is often viewed on a surface level as dumb and simple. however, he's actually extremely intelligent- up to and including having a doctorate in Russian Literature- and very, very good at killing folks, seen from as early as his origin story breaking out of the gulags with his family. underestimating heavy the character can and absolutely will get you killed.
heavy the players are often viewed as dumb and simple. especially people who don't actually play heavy, who think you can just pile onto people and take every 1v1, regardless of positioning. heavy played properly, however, utilizes game sense and team work- arguably requiring it more than any other class in the game- and makes him monstrous in coordinated team fights and well-planned engagements. playing heavy is simple- being good, or great with him requires great game sense and the ability to punish people with inferior positioning and game sense.
in this way, a great heavy player is extremely similar to heavy the character- both being underestimated based on surface-level assumptions and stereotypes, and both having great potential to be extremely dangerous against opponents of inferior skill and mental footwork.
it makes me wonder if those parallels are intentional, or just a happy accident.
It's a sentimenting idea but I feel like most people quickly associate heavy players with desire to win and heightened awareness, for instance some scout or pyro players will play for the sake of enjoying themselves but i've yet to see a primary heavy player that didn't have a fire in his eye for winning rounds and shutting down points. However, a new or dumb heavy player is by far the most adorable thing to watch in the game second only to a new spy.

I too am a large angry gentleman who kills people with naught but his fists and has several useless degrees.
Please let this be true.
Sweet, only 96 more days until the update!!!

What's the fire in my eye?
I'm kinda surprised more people aren't excited about the Dane tweet. We know he visited the TF2 team today, the tweet's about the pyro update and the date, and he spells out 9/6.
Really the only way he could make it more clear is if he tweeted "The Pyro update is coming out 9/6"

I'm sure a lot of people just feel burnt by the delays and don't want to get their hopes up.
we'll entertain the idea that it's 9/6
why uh... why would they not just have a blog post saying that? I believe the dude just because there'd be no other reason to commit social suicide like that. just confused why it can't come from them
9/6? That's almost my favorite number.

I imagine they still want it to be a surprise, but honestly it's been far too long to be pulling any surprises. A teaser of what's to come would be more than welcome and would whet the appetite of people who have been anticipating this for over a year, it'd give them something to talk about and hype people up for as the days wind down and everyone collectively lets out a sigh of relief knowing that it's finally here.
The only other reason could be that they still don't know when they'll launch it, which means Dane just threw himself under the bus over speculation and he will be hardpressed to gain people's trust afterward.

I hope for his sake that Valve Time doesn't kick in. If that date goes by without something major he will be burnt at the stake by the community.
I fully believe in NineSix, but will it be the blog post or the update?

Honestly I just don't see Dane as the type of person that would make up a date and destroy the trust and respect the TF2 community has with him for some twitter likes. He was also pretty careful with what he said about his last Valve visit.
Don't forget the TF2 team had the comp community announce TF2 was getting matchmaking for them so it's not exactly the first time they would have a prominent member of the TF2 community announce something.

Most defenetly a Teaser/1st Day/Blogpost. They wont release it without atleast 1 of them
If the TFTeam had made the exact same comment as a blog post it would be WAY more effective at drumming up hype.
The frying pan is one of the most OP melee weapons. Prove me wrong.

punchy explained it well
you gotta fly people to valve to shovel any bit of info out
9/6? Why, that's 24 days before my birthday!
Truly this will be a fantastic birthday month!
I'm also at PAX, but away from my computer, but close to Valve.
If the update hits, I will be simultaneously as close and as far away from it as possible.
I think this is a joke like this one https://twitter.com/danekevincook/status/892529851575357440
he visited valve this time, but who knows.

We can be birthday buddies.
