When I say there's very little on the market, I think it's safe to assume that I'm limiting myself to shooters, yes. If I liked MOBAs you'd see me playing them.

if you really like TF2 you'd probably enjoy Quake Champions
I would play the shit out of it if I could run it probably, and if bethesda didn't do the same retarded shit blizzard does when it comes to country restrictions
I only played the open beta some months ago; at the time, it didn't seem the characters were distinct enough, essentially defeating the purpose of having a character system in general.
I mean you could try a pretty good game called Team Fortress 2 Classic, it even has a Payload mode and Deathmatch

their first release was good. 4team DM with the 9 classes was super fun
then it got clustered with stuff

If there was only people playing it.
I haven't really played the game but I hear good things about Dirty Bomb if you're looking for a classed based shooter, then again I do hear a lot of "It's Pay2Win" from it.
I can't say if it's true or not, however worth a play at the very least to kill some time till the update.
When it comes to arena-esque shooters like TF2, I'd go with TF2. Not this TF2. The other TF2.
[editline]2nd September 2017[/editline]
I mean the one with robots. Not this one with robots. The one with huge robots. Like, pilotable, gundam-esque robots.
So what is the proper protocol after leaving a competitive match vs a hacker and getting banned for 2 weeks? Shut up and take it or is there something better?
Is that game really worth playing? Is it still alive?

Take the loss next time rather than abandoning your team?

According to this post, Valve is aware of the long wait, and that they want a high-quality update.
My only guess is that they
A) Fixed many bugs (fire particles hopefully) to the point where playtesting them could take a while
B) Implemented major new aspects to the game which also requires playtesting/had a large bug.
My hope is that it's both, because I want this wait to be justified as much as it can be, so players that left TF2 behind might pick it back up.

I wouldn't describe it as a class based shooter, it tries to keep the Quake feel, with a niche ability each character can do, all weapons still spawn and you need to collect them, this is a game where it's a good idea to pick a main or two that fit your style and only play them
Well that date and the jungle doodle basically confirm its next week. In what way could this imply something else?
I can't speak to the TFTeam but our development whiteboard at work has all kinds of unrelated shit all over it. For instance, a drawing of a dragon next to a deadline for a hanger bay VR environment. The date could also be a soft deadline for testing some feature of the update.
If they have two good snipers on their team why does the classic and danger shield still exist in their sorry, broken state. I really want to like the classic but that movement speed really kills it for me.

I don't really think so, especially looking at the greater image of things.
This week, VNN got a shady email talking about maps being selected. Throw that into the trash or not, it's something to take in note.
Then there is the Dane - TF Team meet. It's obvious that this meetup was planned and the TF Team was fully aware someone who is very invested in the community was gonna head for their office - and see that whiteboard. You really think they would've left a drawing of a jungle + a date where we always get blog posts about big Updates out in the open in such a scenario if it was something unrelated and not a tease of some kind?
An added bonus to this is ics hearing some juicy rumors about next week, remember he is part of the secret tf2 content creator society where they share their sonic OCs
Apart from this I also heard Tarzan boy in school yesterday
Put this all in a poot, cook it up, and you got yourself a "toweek is the week - no bamboozle" if you ask me.

I'm more of an outsider than insider. I'm not part of any update creation team or never have been, such as invasion, mayann or frontline. No one even tells me about these projects untill they go public or asks if i would like to participate. All i do is make maps with the content i have in my use because i enjoy it. I may be wrong, been many times as you can see when i thought maps were picked over a month ago already.
I think that i have keen eye and good observation skills. The rumours i heard only confirm my suspicions as some of the mappers have gone quiet, so naturally something happened - or nothing at all. Either they got map in or didn't, which is why they propably are as disappointed as i am but those of who did, are keeping low profile so they dont spoil the suprise. I'm not going to do that either. Even if i knew exactly what maps are going in, despite myself not getting any, i wouldnt say it out loud. No one would.
I did a prediction on twitter about what gamemodes the maps are that are going to be added. 30th of june 2017 i said KOTH, A/D, Payload, 5CP, CTF and Payload Race. I also did this post on reddit, where i listed the jungle maps at that time with all the gamemodes available. I dont think valve picks more than 1 map per category, so it's pretty clear that my own maps are in A/D, and propably didnt get selected. One of those maps there however, propably did. Same goes for other categories - I think only 1 map per each.
I also made prediction of maps 5 maps that i think has a chance to get into the update on 12th of July on twitter, based on my own observations with added "valve dice roll". I listed Overgrown, Lazarus, Banana bay, Ahau and as that dice roll, Rift.
How many i got correct? You'll find out propably next week.
I wish I was part of that top secret content creator prediction club.

While Baltimora (bless his soul) is a very credible source, it's entirely plausible Radio DJs are doing things like that to mess with us, like playing Tom's Diner at 2 AM after you forget you left your radio on. HOWEVER, the Pyromania update explicitly mentioned the radio's influence on the team, not to mention the Boston Boom-Bringer. Maybe it's not the TF Team delaying this update, it's something far bigger than all of us.
So just so we're all clear on what we think would be neat to be added to the update, that we dont have confirmed would be:
-An implementation to help new players get into the game better
-A fix to stop metal inflation
-Great other classes rebalances
-Server Menu Polish
-An implementation to revive community servers
-an Expectation be told to us of what we should have for the future of TF2
-a time reference estimate for the heavy update
-Halloween/Christmas update this year?
-future updates to be big again like the old days?
Am i missing anything?

You can't fool me!
But in all honesty - I really don't see any reason to not have big hopes for next week.

Competitive working properly, no random crits/spread, improved votekick/anti cheater tools, and a working game coordinator which actually fills up games.

More MvM maps and items
Killstreak kits dropping in more than 2 different MvM maps so we don't have to do the same tour over and over.
So we're getting the Jungle update, the Pyro update, and the new short all in one update, correct? That's what we've all been waiting over a year for?
I just want to make sure my expectations aren't too out there, we have spent such a long time waiting and speculating for this update I'm still under the impression it's going to be the largest update to the game ever going by what people have been saying.
I'd settle for something along the lines of an update that's pretty much the lovechild of Love & War + Gun Mettle. Might be setting the bar too high but I am definatly not expecting a week-long update were three new weapons are being unveiled everyday a la Uber Update.
I'd be happy with an {X} Day update page whilst they do last-minute checks to see if everything is bug-free, for the most part.
Since they haven't released anything as far as pyro changes go, what issues would be almost certainly fixed?
Flamethrower consistency would definitely be my first concern.

Well the team did say this would be one of the largest updates the game has had, but not THE largest.
The update is also a new campaign with the contracts and such but they are being reworked into some kind of "Choose your own adventure" format as they called it to make them more interesting and investing by letting you pick contracts that suit your play style and class preferences and working towards rewards that you actually might use, rather than just being given random items.
Also making the Casual and Competitive modes work better.
And there could also be other stuff they haven't told us as well.
