I'm not going to answer more questions, but there's a reason I posted in this thread. Please be skeptical of anyone who claims to have inside knowledge or theorizes that valve is literally Game of Thrones
I think it may be a denial. But I don't know, this may only apply to Artifact.
You just gave me a fucking heart attack because I assumed they denied 9/6
I was about to say that as well, and I read the post thinking "how did he get that from this post?"
I mean when an employee is saying I think it may be a denial. But I don't know, this may only apply to Artifact.
To be honest, developer interaction like this just made me realize how tough the negative reaction to the game mustve been to the developer - "We want to make it a Valve game" sounds pretty.. important for them. The fact that everyone takes Artifact as a joke... Either way, I ain't expecting anything tonight, but for the ones patiently waiting: Thread Theme.
You just gave me a fucking heart attack because I assumed they denied 9/6
haha yeah that's gonna get denied tomorrow, not today :v:

They still deserve all the criticism they receive for that; remember that each one of them chose to work on yet another Dota project, rather than dedicate themselves to one of several very neglected IPs. (Even a new IP would have been received more favorably than a Dota card game.) Artifact will promptly outperform TF2 within a few days of release, both in player numbers and profitablity. This is a far cry from the situation at Boss Key Productions, where their job security is threatened from the abysmal outcome of their inaugural product launch. If there's anyone you should pity, it's them--not a bunch of guys that are almost guaranteed astronomical success, whose decisions consumers have every right to critique.
Wow, a decent amount of you seem to think that something will happen tomorrow eh?
"Hope" is more like.
Wow, a decent amount of you seem to think that something will happen tomorrow eh?
Why wouldn't a decent amount of people believe in tomorrow?
Hope is a painful drug.
Wow, a decent amount of you seem to think that something will happen tomorrow eh?
I don't think it's that much of a stretch. Dane visits Valve, sees a calendar with tomorrow's date marked with the illustration of a Jungle. There's really only a few things that this could mean: *That's the day the update launches *That's the day of the first blog post/a status update blog post *It doesn't mean anything and was an elaborate troll/test of character from the TF Team. Let's take a look at each of those possibilities and their likelihood. *That's the day the update launches Considering the sheer amount of content in this update, this will be, at minimum, a two day update. For this to be the case, a blog post would would need to hit at some point today, and it's only 2PM at Valve right now. There's plenty of time for something to happen. *That's the day of the first blog post if a two-day update, this would be the unveiling of the update to the community, with Thursday as a release day. This is...generally to be expected from Valve, and would not be altogether unsurprising. *There will be a status update blog post Word on the street is the update is nearing completion, and at this point in development I don't think that's empty speculation. One last status update to tide us over before its release would fall in line with the blog posts we've received since the balance change blog post. *It doesn't mean anything and was an elaborate troll/test of character from the TF Team. Possible, but why? Why would they do something like this after over a year without any major content updates? Why would they intentionally leave a red herring out in the open to fuck with Dane, one that could potentially lead to him "leaking" it and driving a content-starved community wild? What's the purpose of that besides kicking the dog and being an asshole? Despite our problems with the TF Team, I'm pretty sure they genuinely care about the game and its players and wouldn't pull a fucking dick move like that for no reason. Of the available possibilities I see, this one looks the least likely to me by far.
It's a multi day update, I feel like that's not even questionable at this point. So you can hope for the blogpost, but don't expect an update release until thursday minimum.
This is the root of all disapointment. When you take things for granted just because. valve doesn't follow any logic whatsoever. they come out with a completely unexpected trick every single time and everyone falls for it.
This is the root of all disapointment. When you take things for granted just because. valve doesn't follow any logic whatsoever. they come out with a completely unexpected trick every single time and everyone falls for it.
I don't follow how that relates to my post. Valve does follow a logic, every major update with multiple major centerpieces (rebalances/contracts/maps) has had multiple days, even if only two day. To imply that valve is just as likely to drop a major update, of this size no less, on day one with no multi-day event is the one thing here avoiding logic. Not only does this give them zero time to gauge player feedback to content and potentially prepare for adjustments ahead of time, but it gives them even more time to work on fixes while also satiating the long rabid fans waiting on it. I'm not dispelling the idea the first announcement could drop early in the week. Just that the update itself would.
I hope Something comes before the end of this thread Just 4 more pages left...
What if the date is for something like choosing the jungle maps for the update?
Fair enough- but what's the point of highlighting that specific date with an illustration on the whiteboard if not to set a reminder related to the update?
Well contra,
What if the date is for something like choosing the jungle maps for the update?
This is more likely the case, something I had mulled over for a while. A doodle on a whiteboard next to a date seems a lot more like an internal reminder for "this is when we finalize the maps/community contribution" rather than a very obvious announcement of the almighty release date that was casually sitting on a wall with major community members in the room.
tomorrow's going to be hilarious
Ok, time to do yet another useless poll that you all love seeing every 2 pages. Optimistic - Day 1 Blog tonight Agree - Day 1 Blog on 9/6 (Tomorrow) Informative - General Blog Post about a new feature / community feedback on 9/6 Winner - Nothing happens and Uncle Dane got juked so hard that the community will crucify him on 9/6
I don't even care if they don't release the update today/tommorow anymore, even a blog post would be lovely with an exact date when we should expect it. We always get "Soon" crap from Valve, It sucks.

It's been... fuck, how many months since submissions started? Also, I really feel like going out of the way to highlight the date for that day would mean something more significant. Putting up the blog post or releasing the update seems far more worthy of highlighting in a context like that than simply filling out an internal check list of what gets in this late into development.
What if they make another blog post tomorrow saying that they are actively finishing up the pyro update, and instead of a mannpower update they give us a pass time update.
Why do people always exaggerate casual matchmaking waiting times? I never waited more than a minute to find a game.

I doubt it takes two months to choose community content.
alternate theory; someone was doing math on the whiteboard and forgot to erase all of it, someone else was having a fun time doodling jungles
I already mentioned this but it doesn't hurt to bring it up again. We have tons of unrelated drawings next to dates and other crap on our dev white boards. That could also just be a milestone date.
The update isnt going to release tomarrow but people are going to be exicted anyway.
The update isnt going to release tomarrow but people are going to be exicted anyway.
Really at this point it's "any moment now", none of us can say for sure when it will/won't come out.
