Is that suppose to be a threat?
yes :dogcited:
We want the forums to be a better place
lol
Your favourite thread had 31 bans in the last week when the mods decided it was time to end it. This is higher than any other thread on Facepunch by a large margin, and it's a waste of peoples time to keep it around. We want the forums to be a better place, not somewhere the mods have to constantly babysit.
I can respect that, but you could always just get mods for that subforum who are generally trusted, well mannered, and on it often (i.e Geel, VNN, Punchy).
At first I was sad this was getting killed, it's where I get all my tf2 update info, but having to constantly flip through pages to see anything of substance is silly. Now, seeing how everyone is reacting, I won't miss it. All I ever saw was salt and attacking each other because "heavy should be only class" or some other dumb remark. People need to cool it just a bit honestly.
If that irks you then you should be more concerned over the fact we can silently delete posts, 16x16 icons are the least of your concerns when it comes to the tools we have.
and if that concerns you then you should be more concerned over the fact we can make posts under other people's account name honestly we do this shit all the time, i guess it never happens in the tf2 subforum so you all wouldn't know but yea it's nothing new and it's certainly not some big secret lol
I can respect that, but you could always just get mods for that subforum who are generally trusted, well mannered, and on it often (i.e Geel, VNN, Punchy).
No other forum needs so much hand holding, it's insane. Even the rust people seem to fuck up less than MUS.
Tbh I don't mind MUS shutting down, even when there's content there's really nothing to speculate on nowadays. No hints, no real buildup, nothing. What's bumming me out is the impression I'm getting that the mods are ready to just delete the entire section for a game they've never played
It's not like I changed what's actually on people's posts or something, just the ratings. I do this shit all the time on FP and the only reactions it ever gets are "wait I dont remember rating that" etc. I honestly didn't expect massive pages of timestamped screencaps and claims of corruption or I wouldn't have bothered lol. people need to chill just a tad about this mods breaking shit has been like a staple of this forum since its inception tbh
There's nothing wrong with the rating manipulation in of itself. It's because there's already a lot of tension on the forum due to the termination of MUS and the community feeling that the mods were already being unfair to the game, the subforum, and its community. The rating changes aren't the problem, I could get dumb-ed into oblivion and really not care. Just as you said, ratings don't mean anything. It's just that doing that is basically equivalent to kicking an already swarming beehive. And the manipulation, compounded with the feelings that the current TF2 subforum moderators are against us that have arisin in the past couple of days, created this situation.
No other forum needs so much hand holding, it's insane. Even the rust people seem to fuck up less than MUS.
No other thread, you mean. I seem to recall one of the mods saying that the tf2 subforum has almost the least reports of any of the subforums. Those reports in MUS will just end up here once MUS is gone.
What's bumming me out is the impression I'm getting that the mods are ready to just delete the entire section for a game they've never played
granted I haven't paid much attention but I've not heard anything about anyone wanting to shut down the tf2 forum lol. Just that two chat threads were gonna be merged because one doesn't have much purpose anymore.
Is this what update drought does to people
I can respect that, but you could always just get mods for that subforum who are generally trusted, well mannered, and on it often (i.e Geel, VNN, Punchy).
Generally trusted. Well mannered. On it often. Everyone you suggested only hits 1 of those 3 and none of the others, and fucking Geel, don't make me laugh. :v: We also do not need section mods, all mods are global and we're here to moderate the entire forum, not babysit a single section like we did in the past. The TF2 section, while being "one of the most popular", still has a smaller viewer base than the entire forum and we expect you guys to self moderate via the reports, we're here to handle reports, not babysit sections.
I wish people could behave professionaly on the internet, but oh well :v:
No other thread, you mean. I seem to recall one of the mods saying that the tf2 subforum has almost the least reports of any of the subforums. Those reports in MUS will just end up here once MUS is gone.
While MUS gets a ton of reports, so it's gone. Maybe if you all keep messing up the merged thread that will go too. We can go on in circles all day, but it comes down to: why do you all act like idiots while the rest of the forum self manages so well these days?
Tbh I don't mind MUS shutting down, even when there's content there's really nothing to speculate on nowadays. No hints, no real buildup, nothing. What's bumming me out is the impression I'm getting that the mods are ready to just delete the entire section for a game they've never played
me and reagy have a combined 3500 hours in TF2, and we both ran a Facepunch TF2 community for many years, and reagy continues to host for them I believe. We have both loved TF2 in the past, this is not an issue with the game.
Why do you all act like idiots while the rest of the forum self manages so well these days?
Considering the average account age of the recent bans are like 0-2 months, I'd say we don't all act like idiots. I'd never heard of facepunch but through TF2 when I joined, and I'll guess many of the new users are the same way. VNN practically advertises this place, and 12-15 year olds with no business being here end up here, asking why they can't rate posts and posting bad memes.
me and reagy have a combined 3500 hours in TF2, and we both ran a Facepunch TF2 community for many years, and reagy continues to host for them I believe. We have both loved TF2 in the past, this is not an issue with the game.
I provide the servers for Glubbable to run that shitshow called Slender Fortress, my personal interest in TF2 in its current state, I have nothing in, its a shell of its former self and I don't get all this new shit they've thrown in but that's my own view on it and I understand people still enjoy it, its just not for me anymore, and again its not an issue with the game we've got, its more that this section is basically 4 threads and nothing more, MUS and this one are practically the same chat thread. We've had this with the old Dota2 section of which we removed and merged into a general thread under General Games Discussion. I don't really have a view against or with keeping this section but from an outside view, as a section in a whole, its pretty damn dead when its only 4 threads keeping it propped up. The emporium could easily go into Creative Corner, the chat threads can be merged together into a general tf2 thread under General Games Discussion and the media threads can also be merged together into a general tf2 media thread under General Games Discussion but that's just my take on things.
The TF2 section, while being "one of the most popular", still has a smaller viewer base than the entire forum and we expect you guys to self moderate via the reports, we're here to handle reports, not babysit sections.
So you expect us to self moderate via reports...which we do...and then when we fulfill our end of the bargain and make sure that the shitposters in MUS are being appropriately dealt with, you complain constantly about how moderating (you know, your literal job description?) is too hard/too much work? Then you nuke our longest-running megathread, come in here and scramble ratings and posts because people are calling you out on your shit, ban people who speak out particularly loudly about what's going on...are you fucking surprised? Does it surprise you that people don't particularly appreciate being openly antagonized? I'm genuinely curious here. What I'm hearing from you mods right now pretty much sums up to "abusing our power is no big deal lol, why are you so mad?". I've been on a fucking ton of Internet communities- hell I've moderated some of my own- and I've seen, you know, comical admin abuse. Joke bans, little pranks. Harmless shit. The way that you guys are treating us lately is outright antagonistic. There's no comedic value in having our posts shuffled and our ratings manipulated, especially not right now, when it's seemingly being done in response to us criticizing ya'll for what you're doing. Do you really not understand why we're upset right now? Do none of you have the introspection to think "hey, maybe we're kind of being dicks to these guys right now"?
I doubt the Emporium would suffer much, it's mostly moved to Discord nowadays anyway. I support merging the chat threads. Looking at it again maybe TF2 doesn't need its own section, a lot of the separate threads could easily fit into the chat thread (loadouts, screenshots and what not). I'm mostly afraid of the threads becoming empty once they're spread out across the forum, but given the current state of things maybe it's for the best. It's gonna be active no matter what whenever there's an update anyway.
I don't want MUS to go down, but many people, on both sides of the argument are just being immature and disrespectful This is the least active thread in this section, named general, while all the "general" stuff happens in other threads, this is clearly a problem What is wrong with merging them together?, if it's just that you'll miss mus, then just name the thread mus and general The problem is that mus is supposed to have a specific topic, but most of posts there have nothing to do with it, most "general" posts are there, update drought or not Stop making such a big deal out of it
you know, your literal job description?
Wait, we get paid for this? Hold the fuck up.
why not settle our issue in a good round of tf2
I did state a few pages back I believe, that a handful of the banned accounts were 2 - 30 post users. Not saying that generalises the person behind it but those people are clearly not regulars of the MUS. The ban came from poor unspeculative posts from low posters, in addition to regulars responding badly to those poor posts and spamming "Tonight is the night?" "Ding ding ding" every 5 or so posts, and to not forget the flamewar between multiple people. I'm not defending nor attacking MUS, but the fact that a good portion of the bans were newer accounts isn't exactly accurate to generalise the MUS and its regulars.
I think we should stop discussing this here, and move this discussion to the Forums Discussion thread. That way, other moderators can follow it and give feedback too, and this thread can get back to TF2 discussion in the mean time. Is this fair?
Wait, we get paid for this? Hold the fuck up.
Oh, sorry, yeah. You volunteer, presumably. You volunteer to moderate and you don't like it when you have to actually moderate. (User was banned for this post ("Mod sass - Please be less rude, you prove our point" - icemaz))
Noone is inherently protesting the subforum's deletion in of itself right now, or even MUS's. It's that the motives appear to be that the people wanting it deleted appear to want it deleted not for the betterment of Facepunch, but because some sort of smug and condescending tone towards the game and its community seems to be driving it. I see some being genuine and saying that TF2 doesn't deserve an entire subforum at this point. That is a very fair point. But then I see some who's reasoning is "we dont need a forum for this dead game and this shit community hurrdurr", which is causing this whole problem in the first place. It seems like it's deletion is for some sort of self-satisfaction of seeing the TF2 subforum die rather than it benefiting the website.
why not settle our issue in a good round of tf2
All stock. No Spies. koth_viaduct.
Final warning to move over to the forums discussion thread https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1561877&page=87 and to get this thread back on track in the mean time (MUS seems to be going fine in all of this discussion). State your cases in Forum Discussion not here YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR OFFTOPIC OTHERWISE.
