if it wasnt for the update, why did the blog go down yesterday?? it wasn't a wordpress update, either
Wait, the TF2 blog uses Wordpress? My opinion of it has decreased significantly. [editline]24th July 2017[/editline] I feel like if I worked at Valve I'd work on creating a bunch of cool tools for the community that they can access through Steam / tf2.com. Like community stuff, viewing competitive stats, etc. The current services available to players (provided by Valve) are very lacking.
Sad part about Invasion effects while pretty are exclusive only to invasion hats, how they messed that up I do not know. The best you can get is a Captain Space Mann with Nebula. It's a $2,000+ hat and grade doesn't matter when you're an all-class misc. So I assume that a Nebula Australia Coronas would sell for much less.
I feel like if I worked at Valve
Geel, I mean this sincerely and with heartfelt earnest: You are far too competent, innovative, and full of actual work ethic to be working at Valve.

I've only met a few of them, but they all seemed like intelligent, competent, hard-working people.

I agree that the TF Team shows massive signs of improvement and being more in-touch with the community, but even so I feel their natural abilities would be unimpeded and could flourish to their as well as our own benefit if it were not for the frankly inane structure they use at valve.

I'm a self-directed person, and the ability to do whatever I feel will benefit the company -- and being able to do so with the resources of a company like Valve -- seems like something I'd really, really enjoy doing.
Yeah, there just needs to be more of them >.>
Until the high school clique culture impedes progress
You're going to be dealing with other people anywhere you go. Better that than things being demanded of you by someone who was granted a position of authority arbitrarily by someone who themselves does not deserve their position of authority.
You're going to be dealing with other people anywhere you go. Better that than things being demanded of you by someone who was granted a position of authority arbitrarily by someone who themselves does not deserve their position of authority.
I suppose, but at least with a demanding authority the task gets accomplished because there's a person who's job is to keep things on schedule, as opposed to a group of people with a direction but no reason to have a sense of urgency for a deadline. Speaking of which, it's almost August and still no hide nor hair of the update.
in the news tomorrow: geel and scraptf purchase valve

Work on the core infrastructure of what makes the game a game first, like balance, before focusing on the superfluousness of website improvements. A balanced game is a fun game; an imbalanced game with fancy UI and services is still an imbalanced and infuriating mess. Please keep that in mind if you pursue this and make it a reality. Good luck my friend.
If Geel actualy does become a member of the TF team then facepunch would be able to communicate with the team more efficiently
It's more likely that he'd become assimilated into their flawed "let the product speak for itself" ethos. That's not a mark against his character--and I was wrong about him before, I'll readily admit my mistake and I apologize to him for it--rather, it's perhaps a requisite for being a part of the company. At any rate, if he keeps the needs of the community in mind over what he may rather be doing, I think it would work out.

I've gotten back to TF2 after playing Overwatch just to wait for the Summer event for the latter starting with the Huntsman. The Hanzo main still flows within me. [sp]Also fuck random crits[/sp]

The best you can get out of an Invasion crate is a Strange Nebula Phononaut (all-class) or Strange Nebula Corona Australis (single class, but expensive red text Elite grade.)
if it wasnt for the update, why did the blog go down yesterday?? it wasn't a wordpress update, either
We don't know. I'm personally seeing it as a sign that this week is the week.
We don't know. Any blog post would likely be done on an internal website editor.
The blog (and the wiki) just goes down sometimes, it doesn't really mean anything other than Valve is having issues with their web server. Any blog post would likely be done on an internal website editor.
Wiki isnt associated with Valve, so I don't care about that. Blog however going down is more than often enough not just "issues with the web server". The Blog always goes down a couple of times before big Updates, and it hasn't gone down for a long while now, otherwise the thread wouldve mentioned the blog going down several times this year. Which, if I recall correctly, it didnt. The Blog going down isn't exactly as usual as the wiki going down.
Wiki isnt associated with Valve, so I don't care about that.
But the wiki is hosted on Valve's servers
you think putting geel in charge of balance would be a better idea than letting him do webdev something that he, y'know, built his career upon
I would be sooner hired on pretenses of game design/balance than Geel would be. But remember that they don't hire on those merits alone except in extremely rare cases (see Portal and Portal 2 teams, and even in those situations they still had more than design to bring to the table).

You can tell because the actual address is wiki.teamfortress.com The Wiki part of the URL can be anything. The most common thing is of course www. though on some websites that have accounts you'll see login. (for example login.yahoo.com to login to your yahoo account). You can make it anything you want and it's still part of the same website. Also:
In 2007, the first wiki for Team Fortress 2 was created at tf2wiki.net. The wiki was maintained and expanded by the community at that address until in June 2010, Valve accepted the idea to host the site. A copy of the wiki was made and placed at wiki.teamfortress.com, and the majority of users from the old site migrated with it and continued to expand it at its new home.

But the wiki is hosted on Valve's servers
I just checked and you are correct, didn't know that, thanks for telling me. Still - the wiki going down sometimes is usual and normal. The Blog going down is rare and has often something to do with an upcoming Update as proven by the past.

It has gone down many times and not responding but none of those led to update (well, maybe if we count 2012 when blog layout changed a lot before update). It has also gone down during/after update launch because so many requests were made. Originally it went down also for blog post for same reason but they added more capacity. I'm still going to say you wont see the update this week.

Has it really gone down many times, atleast this year? Because I don't recall blog downtimes this year at all.
Well, nobody has seemed to notice blog going down so far this year, untill like now, so something might be on. Besides, this is the last week of July, releasing an update in August would probably bring less players than they expect the update to bring. Basically this is the last week in which they have a chance to get some substantional amount of players joining, be it old veterans or fresh, new players. At least thats how i see it.
Nah, people noticed the blog going down momentarily earlier this year. It was just largely irrelevant so nobody thought to remember it.
