Daydreaming is fun! But nothing's gonna happen today. They normally announce / blog post on Wednesday's and Thursdays for updates.
That's.. actually not true in the slightest. Blog Posts for updates vary heavily from Thursdays to Mondays. Even though in the case of this Update, I'd expect one till Thursday if we are to get an Update this week.
I don't think we're ever going to get a Mobster Monday again.
I'm not underestimating the benefits of your proposal, nor am I dismissing your area of expertise. What I'm trying to say is that in a situation where a team has only limited resources, the most important aspects of development should be prioritized. In a perfect world, we'd have a separate and robust team of people dedicated to game balance, another for economics, and so on. Unfortunately, providence has seen fit to have us make do with Five Guys© Burgers and Fries. As such, a sixth programmer would, ideally, allow the team to facilitate the work flow on those prioritized elements.
But if Geel's talents aren't being utilized, why bother hiring him at all?
Jill worked for Mozilla didn't he? That's a far cry from game development.
I swear if you guys are wrong and Im getting hyped for the rest of the night waiting something that wont come out for another 2 days I will shoot myself in the foot. I really hope you are right
if this update has as much content as they say it does, a multi-day buildup starting early in the week doesn't sound too farfetched
Jill worked for Mozilla didn't he? That's a far cry from game development.
Yes, but Geel rather explicitly has demonstrated his experience in the development of web services and expertise in economics. If I were a theoretical Valve hiring manager, I would hire him based on this experience and want him to put forth his expertise in these areas by bettering Steam and the web services for each of Valve's multiplayer games. Jill worked for Mozilla, but he's also run his own TF2 server network for...god, I don't even know how long. I'm pretty sure it precedes his hiring with Valve, and I imagine that his experience managing TF2 game servers for such a long period of time also helped him get hired.

I really hope you are right
It may not come out for several more weeks. Don't hype yourself up and be pleasantly surprised when it finally ships.
I swear if you guys are wrong and Im getting hyped for the rest of the night waiting something that wont come out for another 2 days I will shoot myself in the foot. I really hope you are right
Don't get hyped, today is a mere possibility, thats about it.
Pretty sure we will see a blog post in the next few hours. Then tomorrow Tyler will post that his email questions have been answered and to expect a video soon.
Where did you even hear this, why would you even say this.
Where did you even hear this, why would you even say this.
Desperation? Im starting to feel desperate
I was desperate four years ago--it's too late for me.
What is making people think today a monday of all days will get some sort of update. It makes no sense to me seeing as nothing new has cropped up to make us think this
What is making people think today a monday of all days will get some sort of update. It makes no sense to me seeing as nothing new has cropped up to make us think this
I think most people are hoping for the first of a multi-day update page.
there is straight up no point to saying "the update is coming tonight/next week, I can feel it" with no proof whatsoever to make that claim. Random guessing only creates disapointement.
A hunch, a feeling in the tummy or a dream of somehow being right. That is all it is, but I stand by what I said.
I stand by what I said.
and you shall fall alongside it.
Just judging by the past updates, 3-4 etc. Day updates are dead. Expect a 2 Day Update. And since updates usually release on Thursdays, if there is a day in this week where you should prepare yourself some tea, get a good book, and watch over the TF2 Blog, it's Wednesday. Anything before that is a sweet surprise.
I had a dream that it slipped out that the Pyro Update would be the last update for TF2 if it didn't do well. I've had maybe 3 TF2 blog related dreams over the past month and they're getting increasingly desperate and hopeless.
Just judging by the past updates, 3-4 etc. Day updates are dead. Expect a 2 Day Update.
No shit. It's a major update.
No shit. It's a major update.
My point wasnt that it's gonna be multi-day, but that it's gonna be 2-Day. Some people are expecting a 3-day update or something like that, which likely wont happen.
Haha this guy is going to pee on his cat. :)
You know I am. I've been waiting since the actual announcement for the Jungle theme, and its gotten to the point where i really don't care what i have to do to get this update. MyM was a disappointment, especially compared to Pyromania and MVM, which were two back-to-back updates that were great in their own way. I'm hoping that this new Pyro update will be a Pyromania 2.0 because that update was real great (I also hope they'll add these animations --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0B6OF9foDec).
What is making people think today a monday of all days will get some sort of update. It makes no sense to me seeing as nothing new has cropped up to make us think this
I believe this has something to do with the fact that Pyromania was announced on a Monday.
I had a dream that it slipped out that the Pyro Update would be the last update for TF2 if it didn't do well. Then we were kicked from the server we were playing on, and every time we used Casual Matchmaking for a week, there'd only be one map available to play. It was the map the Mayann crew released.

Had several really crappy games today. First i joined to server in the process of choosing next map, after which played some lengthy stalemate matches with reserve shooter shenannigans, instant deadringer refills and critical rockets from behind corners. After i had to wait for next match to find and left when my patience ran out after several minutes. It may sound like nothing, but it was like quintessence of everything wrong with the game now, and was for ages before, only amplified by last year's events. I am really looking forward to next update, and honestly - i don't give a single damn about fancy shmancy major update stuff. I would rather see everything they planned as sequence of small patches changing each it's own aspect of game. A thread of patches, delivered in time and fixing little things before they pile up in big chunks. And honestly, until that comes to TF2 - it will never be right, even with loudest and flashiest updates made entirely by community suggestions edit; at least there were no hackers. i think.
and you shall fall alongside it.
Aye, maybe. I shall never forget the shame of this day, should I fail in my mission to be right.
that sounds fucking horrific
"stating that the inferno had begun"
"stating that the inferno had begun"
not the inferno part, the being-forced-to-play-only-one-map-and-a-mediocre-one-at-that for a week part

On topic, I completely agree with you on major update content being segmented and spread throughout the year. Blackavar inquired over this a few months ago, and Jill gave him a perplexing and vague response involving what "makes sense" for their development cycle.

If this was any other game company they'd be in the shitter financially.
