was waiting for item server to be back up and then the casual server i was on said "match is over thanks for playing" and ended. I think it was because there was too little amount of players? does it do that when theres less than 5 players?
im stupid
beginner's mistake, you'll know better next time
there's still a chance, however slim, that tonight may be the night, but I wouldn't count on it
[editline]25th July 2017[/editline]

not that I'm aware of- interesting though
I'm still betting on Thursday. If not, Mid-August.
friday is a pipe dream, meaning tonight/tomorrow are the last days for the tf team to announce the update before we're officially in August territory
according to Fluury, this is also the longest time the game has gone without a patch
this is also also the longest the game has ever gone without a major update
been over a year since MyM, and it looks like we're soon to pass the year-and-one-month mark...
I personally believe it's gonna be in late august, since that's around the TF anniversary and also because it's not that far in the future.
not the inferno part, the being-forced-to-play-only-one-map-and-a-mediocre-one-at-that for a week part
thus being an inferno? :v:
I don't think that putting the Pyro Update as the anniversary update would be smart, mainly because by that time school would already start for most of the people (and if not, probably in a week or two after the anniversary), which wouldn't give much time for people to enjoy the update. The latest date for the release that would still be reasonable is 15th august, anything past that is simply too much waiting for average player. At least in my opinion.
I'm just waiting for august 8th patch that will add 72hr jam 2017 summer participant medal and update localization files
Community will explode
it's already been well too much waiting for most people, lol
I wish the TF Team would at least fucking post a status update
it cannot take over a fucking year of working on the same update to not have an ETA
the least they could do is give us some semblance of when to expect it, or to give us another What We're Up To to explain why it's taking so long
I'd hate to be that bugger to assume this one but what if this is going to be the 10 year anniversary update?

I think the game servers restart after a certain amount of time or matches to avoid getting overworked or something.
Want some fun trivia? This is not only the longest time we've gone without a Major Update, but also the longest time we have gone without a normal patch!

This makes sense. I play on a private server and if a map is left up for extended periods of time performance goes into the toilet. Almost like there is a slow memory leak.
are horrible tf2 puns allowed here
I wouldn't bother speculating about specific release dates. After the MYM fiasco, I'd imagine the TF Team isn't keen on the idea of rushing another update, so they'll release it whenever they deem it ready (instead of just releasing the announced balance changes so we have something to talk about while we wait for jungle and pyro, for some reason)
They won't bother coinciding the release with anniversaries or anything because we've waited long enough - they wouldn't set an arbitrary release date to make us wait even longer if they weren't still working on something. I hope.
The TF team will probably take as much time as they can. We've had major updates in the past that were released in August. It would be really nice if we had the pyro update this July, but as it gets closer to August I just have less faith in it.
We're all whining now but hopefully, we'll look back at this and appreciate the update wasn't rushed.

God help them it if fails to impress though.

They won't lose much, i assure you. Valve's reputation is nuclear proof, and income will dripple regardless.
Honestly as much as I'm sure Valve's work ethic is a dream for those that work there, it feels like it doesn't benefit the lifespan of the golden games they churn out.
With TF2 you have iconic characters that just feel like their potential just got thrown in a corner and left to gather dust, till some new employee comes along and puts a hat on it before putting it back in the corner for another new employee to find it.
With Portal 2 you still have "Trading coming soon" ...Which never got added and the long abandoned store.
CSGO has started to see this now with many months with no new contracts.
L4D2 received a lot of love and stopped at the right time with content updates. And don't get me started on Valve's favourite child, Dota 2.
It just feels like potential for these iconic games and characters are just wasted, and only seem to get shown in a rare SFM-made advert to say "We still care about these franchises!" as their employees all rush to work on VR...
The freedom to work on what you choose is a strange and quite amazing concept for a company such as valve, and it worked! But it's starting to show some cracks and I don't think anyone there notices or cares.
Left 4 Dead was huge. That game had advertising and fucking everyone was talking about it when it came out.
That TF2 never got the same treatment is a travesty.

There was advertising and a lot of talk about the Orange Box (though a lot of it was about Portal) when it came out. It was released in a pretty crowded release window though with games like BioShock, CoD 4, Mario Galaxy, Rock Band, Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed all releasing within a few months of Orange Box.

The mid-late (20)00s was huge (probably the best era) for gaming in general.
When we start reaching milestones like "longest time between patches" and "longest time without a major update" you know we're reaching the beginning of the end if Valve doesn't start changing itself.
A week or so ago, before this thread became MUS Fortress Forever, I made a very vague post about a change that would affect a small portion of the TF2 community. What I said at the time was it was a race between that event (which has a fixed date, August 18th) and the pyro update. I can now elaborate quite a bit more.
Mic Snobs is a small group of community servers founded around the idea of running 24/7 Doublecross. In spite of Valve's best efforts (making community servers an opt-in checkbox in QuickPlay, January 2014, the complete removal of QuickPlay, summer 2016, offering no new mechanic to funnel traffic to community servers except for the server browser,) we actually have a few populated servers. MicS is very much a "community" enterprise. In our 3 1/2 years of operation, we've had many regulars. All of our servers are all-talk (and at this point, instant respawn) and we have a bunch of chatterboxes who join in the evening. We also have, ahem a bunch of squeakers who throng our * Tower servers during the day (I never voluntarily set foot on them, but I do check the vote logs.) We've had some fairly broad reaching success at various points. Our 2014 Ghost Fort server was hugely popular as we made it easy for people to get their gift drops, and had a custom plugin to reduce PvP damage when Merasmus was out. Remember that it wasn't until 2016 that PvP damage was disabled when halloween bosses are spawned. Ghost Fort 2014 was our most popular server until the arrival of Tough Break and Landfall. Our 24/7 Landfall server was insane, when QuickPlay (and specifically, Gun Mettle) was a thing. It was regularly in the top 100 servers worldwide, and briefly in the top 50. That was when being the top 1000 meant something. 2016 started with a bang for community servers, at least the first half of it. Things kind of went to shit just over a year ago.
Post-MyM, it's been difficult to keep our servers populated. Regulars join, but there's no flow of QuickPlay traffic to fill things up. Playing a 5v5 gets boring after a while. We're still the only game in town for Doublecross (one other shit-tastic shitfest notwithshitstanding.) We're still alive, but we're struggling. The lack of updates to TF2 and (I will harp on this endlessly) no way to route traffic to community servers besides the server browser sucked, most of the wind out of our sails. In 2017, the TF2 community server landscape is one where Skial 24/7 32 man instant respawn (2fort/Turbine/Dustbowl) is more popular than ever and every other community server is a ghost town.
We've had the same physical server since May of 2015, and two other ones previous to that. Since our launch in January of 2014, one guy (The Linux Colonel) has paid for the entirety of our hosting costs, out of pocket and with zero donations. He's now officially resigning from that duty. It cost $90/month, so who can blame him?
Currently the Mic Snobs staff are exploring options to keep our enterprise afloat. At minimum, we're going to downscale to a less powerful physical server and get rid of our lesser played maps (RIP Harvest, Landfall, MvM, possibly more.) At worst, we're closing our doors. After a bunch of discussions today, I am completely unclear on the future of our community.
I am morbidly curious if Valve will manage to release the Pyro update before our current server is turned off. It would somehow be Shakespeareanly fitting if they released it ON the 18th.
all this could be fixed if they were just more open to letting us know what they're up to, like a blog post saying 'here's why we're taking a little longer' or 'here's some undecided changes, we list our ideas, you tell us which to try'
their silence is the only thing making the community ramble about and lose their minds about expected updates and when they're coming out
they've made blog posts promising to let the community know what's going on multiple times, but they never keep it up for longer than just the following post
Alright, I've been trying to come up with names for my weapons and cosmetics in my Solly loadout.
I need some help with it,
4chan is also participating.
The reply with the most requests/likes/winners/whatever, names that item.
