Despite the fact that Pass Time didn't hit it off with a lot of players I would like to see Escalation Studios continue to collaborate with the TF2 team. They did quality work with the mode. They did a lot of balancing and made 3 maps but in my eyes (and probably a lot of people's eyes) it was another CTF style game mode in a game that doesn't work super well with CTF style game modes and has too many of them already. I would love to see Valve give them the reigns for a new MVM update.
Except that now that Escalation is owned by ZeniMax, it wont be doing any free work anymore.I think Pass-time mode development is in hold indefinitely unless Valve themselves pitch in.
Pass time's arguable failure shouldn't be a sign that every single third party gameplay addition will fail. Pass time had some decent ideas behind it but just doesn't fit tf2's playstyle, it advantages so much some classes and takes the issues of CTF and makes them worst. Pass time's core gameplay had issues from the start they couldn't patch, the very existance of the engineer class breaks the concept of a "football like dynamic gamemode" and stalls it to death. That doesn't mean other gamemodes made by third party studios could be a huge success. I'd be so excited if Valve and Arkane started working together again in some way or another, with all the devs with a ton of source engine experience still working there.
My casual rank seems to be where it's supposed to be now. I cant speak for everyone, of course [editline]27th July 2017[/editline] If they give us medals today, they better give us a blogpost telling us what the wait's been for
Wait are the medals coming out today ?
the very existance of the engineer class breaks the concept of a "football like dynamic gamemode" and stalls it to death.
I originally thought maybe throwing the bomb ball off enemy buildings would detonate it as a sort of "The carrier can counter engineers no matter the class" to prevent stalemates. At the cost of throwing the ball to the enemy team and potentially letting them recover.
Wait are the medals coming out today ?
No. Yes. Maybe. We don't know. I'm personally convinced that, as with all the bug fixes, they have put them on the "Jungle Update" card that hopefully comes next week, as always hoped. However they might approach a different route and do a seperate, quicker update with the medals if the Jungle Update is still a while away. Just checked : Competitive ranks work again. Seems like it was a server-side issue.

Passtime's concept iterates on the worst gamemode in the eyes of many people, without ultra popular maps like 2fort and turbine, so there was no way for passtime to work and be popular.
Asteroid iterated on ctf while improving it in every way, and there were lots of people playing that before it vanished into oblivion. The problem with pass time is that A. It's under the Alternate gamemode category that nobody ticks, and B. It doesn't really feel like tf2
Sentry guns spoil so much. Maybe they should change the way they work entirely.
Decrease turning speed for an increase in overall power? Sentry guns have been around since launch and have changed so little, i can't even come up with how you'd make them fun to fight and use.

Id argue passtime is more like CTF than asteroid, where stealing points was optional and you could win by controling the map, camping the robots and never carry the intel, where the only way to win is to score points with the ball in passtime.
Today's the deadline for the 4chan leak posted in the last MUS thread, not feeling very optimistic for some odd reason.
you mean a 4chan leak isn't reliable? no waaaaaaaay
Decrease turning speed for an increase in overall power? Sentry guns have been around since launch and have changed so little, i can't even come up with how you'd make them fun to fight and use.
I know. To make them useful but not able to stalemate so readily seems like a very narrow needle to thread. Tracking speed proportional to degrees to target, so that it behaves the same once "locked on" but takes longer to face people coming in from behind? Give spies some kind of sapper-replacement decoy that can reliably soak a couple seconds of fire? Overall slower tracking, but reverts to quick on any target the engineer has dealt damage to (including via the sentry itself)? I really don't know. I just get bummed at how easily good koth games turn to junk once the sentries start going up. CTF is unplayable. Stalemating requires so much less effort and coordination than breaking through does.
you mean a 4chan leak isn't reliable? no waaaaaaaay
The sad thing is that I initially rejected it out of hopes it would come much sooner, yet ironically the date it gave is probably gonna pass with nothing.
Most impenetrable nests come from Engie stacking. Would making it so that repairing other Engineer's buildings cost more metal than your own be too ineffectual a change? I remember in that video Dane suggested disabling friendly repairs altogether but that seems a bit overkill to me.
you mean a 4chan leak isn't reliable? no waaaaaaaay
There's been plenty of times where it was reliable, it's not unreasonable for people to have some faith in them.
The sad thing is that I initially rejected it out of hopes it would come much sooner, yet ironically the date it gave is probably gonna pass with nothing.
we need sad reacts for posts like this tbh what did the 'leak' even say, anyawys?
Wasn't the 4chan leak outed as a hoax?
we need sad reacts for posts like this tbh what did the 'leak' even say, anyawys?
Some laughable bullshit about the Heavy update being announced for October and then being followed by a Engineer VS Spy I think, can't be bothered to dig up the post.

We should find a way to make the sentry gun fun to fight and use without complicating things.
Isn't that the one that claimed we'd get the pyro update and all the stuff they've promised today, and a few weeks later ALSO get the heavy update? Seemed ridiculous to me. Why not finish the pyro pack, get that out the door, then start work on the heavy pack? It's been a whole year after all. If it takes 12 months to make 2 class packs, why couldn't they release one class packs in 6 months?
Red Sun Over Paradise has Server(s ?) running that. Also have a "Gamemode Madness" Server which switches between Gamemodes, eventually ending up at Zombie Fortress.
thanks, seem pretty fun

Typically, friendly repairs are just a stop-gap to remove sappers or keep a sentry from going down during an uber or something. The situation can get plenty bad without a second engy making sustained repairs. Blocking friendly repairs altogether would likely not prevent many stacking stalemates.
At this point id believe it if the leak said we were getting both the heavy and pyro packs in this update alone given how long we've been waiting
Working on both simultaneously after staging a big war-style event would not only be stupid but also a PR disaster.
today is the day am i rite guys???? (User was banned for this post ("Shitpost" - Reagy))

Doing that isn't as stupid as you'd think. MyM completely fucked the reputation of TF2 for your average plebian, taking a year to make a gigantic update that turns out amazing and attracted several players + makes the reputation of TF2 better is likely smarter than doing the usual 6 month update that might be good, but isn't as impactful enough to make people say that "TF2 is great again"
It's amirite. Either way your post is pretty silly.
It wasnt supposed to be a serious one, is not like im going to start smashing things in my room because someone thought it was dumb
It wasnt supposed to be a serious one, is not like im going to start smashing things in my room because someone thought it was dumb
Oddly specific for a thing you havent done
Just wanna make sure I'm on the same page when it comes to everything that was confirmed and debunked for the update Feel free to dumb this post to hell and correct me if i'm wrong, i'll update this, the last thing we want is expecting something that wasn't ever promised or confirmed : -Pyro pack ->Updated core pyro mechanics to make the class more competitive/have a more precise role in the meta and fix glitches with flames particles for instance. ->New pyro weapons ->Pyro cosmetics, taunts, voicelines? -Jungle ->One valve made map teased in a blog post, multiple community made maps. ->Jungle themed cosmetics, taunts, map assets, probably a jungle case (baseless speculation : Jungle themed non reskin weapons using workshop models?) -A 5m long SFM short (Jungle themed? Pyro themed? Both? Neither? Bread pun themed again?) -> New voicelines -> New music -> New SFM props and assets -3rd weapon skins campaign ->New revamped "Choose your own adventure" contract system where you can pick the reward in some way (no more crates skin vs contract skin system?) ->Non stock weapon skins added for the first time -Large rebalancing of many weapons in the game based on community feedback that was previewed in this blog post. -Competitive match making update ->New ELO system replacing the ranks, better skill matching and skill rating ->Changes that will hopefully revive the gamemode ->Changes that will hopefully close the gap in the way the game is played between casual and competitive, and in a perfect world get rid of weapon bans in comp -Casual match making update->level cap increased by 150 ->Being able to do things like cheaking your inventory while queing for a casual game? ->Other casual improvement -Achievements for pyro an jungle most likely -Revamped server browser? (Sigafoo : "don't get your hopes up") -Updated localization files EDIT : Thoses were either promised by the team during the VNN interview or reported by Dane, Mr Slin, Sigafoo...visiting valve. But there's no way to know if they'll all come out during the pyro update (probably not) or after.
