For this, they should have worktime dedicated to it. And since how valve works - that's not happening. In fact, almost everything ends up near the fact that they can't force themselves to do mundane, boring, uncreative, but necessary jobs, because if you told someone for example - "you, go handle hacker kiddies to scare them off" - they'd just roll their table into another office
Off-topic: i'll start it today - what do you think are the chances of it happening today?
This week could be the week , but its like every week the last few weeks. week week week
Oh shit small world, ran into the same guy a month ago, he even posted in the comments in a weird gloating way about his hack.

That's the biggest problem with TF2 Hackers, it's not that there's a lot of them, it's that the ones who survived the LMAObox wipes are super dedicated for some reason.
When the only thing you aint a failure in life is coding cheats for a game about hats only to get 13 yo mad for about 20 minutes. People that aint that happy with their life I suppose....
[editline]31st July 2017[/editline]
So I just played a match on harvest and holy shit, there was 3 catbots on blu, while we had like a regular aimbotter talking shit in our team and another 2 catbots on purs, no one could get out of the spawn.
really just straight out banning some of the more open cheaters that openly brag out it like nullifiedcat should do enough.
Right now it's just VAC automated and every cheater has nothing to fear because right now, the automated system can't get 'em, but if valve were to do a few manual bans for these big cheaters, imagine the reactions and the feeling of anxiousness generated.
Indeed. Just mix in a few manual bans here and there. Takes little effort, but should make a ton of cheaters and cheat makers a bit more on edge.
Just adding a few manual bans to the mix would not do anything.. 95% of the time, you're not being screwed by a big time cheater with a few 1000$ inventory, who would fear a manual ban system, instead it's the little 13 year old ePiCsNiPeR_XD01, who got angry because he could not get a kill with his laptop touchpad. He couldn't care less if there was a slight chance of him getting manually banned. Might not even notice the difference, then go on complaining that he got vac banned after he let his hamster use his pc.
On the other hand, Overwatch from CSGO with a few adjustments would be really helpful.. Also it would probably benefit from a new name.

Same chances as last week unless Crash bursts in again saying that valve hasnt selected maps yet.
I am, as always, though, incredibly hopeful for this week.
what if you had to be level 5 in casual to actually start playing with players, and before that you only play with bots, like how paladins does it? if anything this would surely slow hackers down after getting vacced since they would need to grind a bit before being able to ruin a game, and get plenty of them too bored to keep doing it, and required tutorials would also help
A good idea, but probably too punishing to new players. That and bots are prone to getting stuck.
If Blizzard succesfuly sued the cheat makers, there's no reason Valve wouldn't be able to do it. Nuking their little industry is the only way to make sure they go for good. Nobody would risk making cheats again.
There's another super shitty side effect to cheaters, in every game. Devs actually have to spend a ton of ressources and weeks of dev time to make anti cheat tools, instead of developping features for the game. And we know that for instance the CSGO team is always super busy with that, working on overwatch and VAC. I bet that's what some devs are specialised in and work on everyday.

if there is money in it people will still make the cheats why do you think people sell illegal weapons even if they go to jail for a very long time (Money)

Guns trafficking is done by mafias and organised crime over the world.
Cheats are made by loosers in their 20s.
If they have the glooming threat of millions in damages over their head, they wouldn't take the risk of making cheats for a free online video game.
Here's something a little sad. I'm hearing that Valve is passing out flyers in their lobby regarding a DOTA 2 comic book series. Printed, in stores, serialized comic book series. I don't have the flyers, if anyone near Weashington can get to the lobby to find them. However, it really drives me crazy that what will be the span of time between the last TF comic and the next, DOTA 2 will receive monthly issues.
Obviously, not 100% confirmed, but I've heard it from two sources who for some reason both didn't grab a flyer.
Will it start as bimonthly, then become biyearly?

If it ends up being monthly issues with the same authors working on it and not rotating teams, it'll be pretty short, few pages long issues, unlike the 170+ pages epic that is the tf2 comic.
Good for the dota fans tbh the more story content the better.

Biannual. The word you're looking for is biannual.

Dota2 has way more than 10 times more players compared to TF2. The efforts go there where the bigger fishes are. I heard some people at Valve are crazy on Dota2 so that might be one reason why they put more effort on that.
TF2 will propably get all comics printed either on separate issues or 1 big issue when the last one releases.
Id pay in a hearbeat to get a printed tf2 comic issue.
If it came with a in game Promotion item, where you get to wear to the comic book on your head, count me in
Or a Manniversary Paper Hat 2.0 made out of comic pages. In Genuine quality. That'd be glorious.
What really rubs me the wrong way is that Dota 2 support and updates remain as strong as ever after four years of release. Meanwhile, TF2 support began to taper off after four years beginning with 2012.

Dota 2 has nearly a million concurrent players.
I'm well aware of that. You'll have to forgive my sour grapes over TF2 not sharing comparable popularity.
I'm well aware of that. You'll have to forgive my sour grapes over TF2 not sharing comparable popularity.
Well, it goes without saying that a game as popular as Dota 2 probably has more people at Valve interested in it compared to TF2. Even outside of people's expectations.
I'm well aware of that. You'll have to forgive my sour grapes over TF2 not sharing comparable popularity.
Perhaps it could be if it had an appropriate level of developer support.
But that's valve's follow-the-money management style, where people flock to already-popular titles for maximum résumé padding, rather than where they're needed in games that could be as popular, if effort were put into them.
It's a pointless cycle.
Didn't the TF2 team promise they would communicate more with us?
Well apart from the Weapon Balancing blog post, they haven't done a good job with that
On the TF2 blog, they only communicated TWO TIMES this year
Both of which were in June, a few days apart

Is it really that hard for them to write up another 'What we're up to' post?
Either way since some people are unsure here is the weather forecast of this week:
Cloudy with a chance of medals.
I saw some people(wickedplayer) arguing that the update will not drop before the 12th because the Dota International is being held there, however I personally see no connection between those two events.
As for medals : Several medals are to be added to the game for events that will/have already passed which is why it isn't too unrealistic to expect them soon, maybe this week. If the TF Team is really willing to update the game with a small medal update in times where everyone is this anxious or they knowingly accepted those medals given the timeframe because they aimed for early august and the like is purely unknown.
These events are:
- The Blapature Charity stream (happened this weekend, passed.)
- The TF2 Jam (happens this weekend.)
- The TF2 Arms race medals (passed today.)
- The MvM Mapping contest medals (Event passed - judging ongoing.)
The interesting bit for the Arms Race medals is the fact that the website says the medals will be awarded to the Winner within a week of them being selected.

I don't exactly know if this was wishful thinking on the creator's side or anything, but Voting for Winners will begin later this week - and I have no idea if the voting process will be a week, 3 days, or just 24 hours long.
The AR medals have already been added to the item schema a few weeks ago. Voting will be open for 7 days and then there'll be a few more days that I need to prepare a winners page.

There's a difference between "awarded" and "distributed".
Aside from the arms race ones, Valve has to add the items to the game first before they can be handed out, so a lot of this is still dependent on an item schema update- which I'm completely certain valve doesn't have a set date for, nor has informed the community of for event purposes.
But this isn't completely conjecture; all this does point to a pre-pyro-medals/bugfix-update at an unknown date.

I don't think so at all. If there was a pre-update medal/bugfix update to come, we wouldve already gotten it a long time ago. The TF Team never did such a huge gap in updates just to release a tiny baby update.
What really rubs me the wrong way is that Dota 2 support and updates remain as strong as ever after four years of release. Meanwhile, TF2 support began to taper off after four years beginning with 2012.
Part of that, in my opinion, is because the updates for TF2 started getting too big for their own good in its early years, that they couldn't really keep up with the bar the set.
Up until the Engineer update, the big updates were generally 1 or 2 classes gets an item set and you maybe got a game mode or a few maps. It was a nice steady flow of content, which due to the size of the game back then, was game changing every time since there weren't many weapons or official maps and game modes in the game.
But then they went crazy with 5 item sets, only 5 months later in the Mannconomy update- and the standard for big updates was raised pretty high, and then 8-9 months later they introduced the "Uber Update" with 8 item sets (the soldier getting two). Even in between those 8-9 months they were releasing rebalances, a few weapons and item sets, as well as the replay function.
CSGO and Dota 2 both have similar player numbers, both standing at 9-12 million recurrent players and 400-800k players in game at any given time, Dota 2 hitting 1m players in game every now and then
The problem with other anti cheat methods is that people always find ways around them
vac bans carrying over phone numbers made people just buy more numbers, once one get banned cancel that out and buy a new one, or get a voip number (many providers are not detected by steam)
the need to reach level 2 in casual before being able to play comp made to slow them down made people start creating new accounts, reaching the level limit then sell those accounts at a slightly higher price
Prime matchmaking is a different story, before it got added the game was mostly cheaters, after it got added, non-prime matches are all cheaters and prime matches are mostly cheaters
Also more people reaching the level limit then selling the account, which appears to be pretty profitable
The changes to Steam gifting however helped a lot, at least after they disabled gifting to emails, however that can't help in TF2's case because it's free
Adding an overwatch system to TF2 could help, however because TF2 is a big casual community, it wouldn't help with people only cheating in casual, adding Overwatch to casual however, not sure if it's a good idea
