Nah, that's not the implication at all, but if they're focused on the big updates, it may very well be to the exclusion of all else. Personally, I think there's room for both. Occasional big updates, and regular more modest or even tiny updates... however I have no idea what the situation is at Valve so I can only guess.
its not about the size in GBs, its about the impact it leaves. and the thing that is surely going to leave a huge impact in the game right now are those balance changes. sure we could have bimontly updates ading a map and a weapon for the rest of 2018 but if they're going to be as bad as snowplow/short circuit they might as well just do nothing but localize files. and they dont even do that.
I want someone at valve to logically explain to me why there cant be another blog post. :disappoint:
If there were some hand picked community content every 3 months, I bet the community would feel much more loved and supportative.
What the TF2 economy needs is: A new regular crate (not case) series, opened by a normal Mann Co key. In it is: Strange Gunslinger (1% chance, just like the re-released Kritzkrieg.) Strange Conscientious Objector (1% chance.) Strange Sharp Dresser (1% chance.) Eureka Effect Strangifier (the only Grordbort weapon lacking one.) Strange Part: Domintion Kills (so it's no longer 6 keys.) Strange Part: Snipers Killed (ditto.) Strange Part: Robots Destroyed (likewise.) Strange Part: Airborne Enemies Killed (ahem.) Strange Part: Projectiles Relfected (see a pattern here? Also Pyro update.) Vita-Saw Strangifier (cannot be a Strange because of its similarity in appearance to an ADAM harvester.) Strange B.A.S.E. Jumper (even if they're nerfing it. Levels up on Kills While Explosive Jumping. Can accept 3 strange parts, but ironically not Kills While Explosive Jumping. Strange Tide Turner. Strange Wanga Prick. Strange Unarmed Combat. Strange Three Rune Blade. Lugermorph Strangifier (yes, this will make vintages and CS vintages even more expensive.) Iron Curtain Strangifier. Or an exceedingly rare unusual ITEM (not just hat, because Valve fixed fucking unusual non-hat-equip-region "miscs," which have been broken since last Halloween. BONUS: Unusual items have a chance for one of 8 new unusual effects, taken from the TF2 workshop. These effects will become unboxable from other crates/cases at a later date. Of course, all of the above is even less likely than the Pyro update dropping today and it not being a complete shitshow for the first 2 1/2 days. A man can dream.
A crate like that would be nice. I also think Valve should make all strange parts a possible semi-rare or uncommon drop if you use a Squad Surplus voucher in MVM since I imagine no one buys them since pretty much the only drops (besides a few rare MVM exclusive cosmetic drops) are normal weapons and no one wants to pay $2 for a few extra normal weapons.
I want someone at valve to logically explain to me why there cant be another blog post. :disappoint:
Perhaps you could get them to do it if there was a cosmetic hat case involved.
Bear in mind there are two different groups of players. Well... obviously there's many different groups, but broadly speaking there's two important distinctions: Those who are dedicated, perhaps even obsessed, to the game and speculate endlessly, or make maps and cosmetics, or play every day to level their stranges/badges, or are desperately hungry for more of the story and fluff, or play competitively in 6s,or otherwise are deeply invested in TF2. Let's face it, for the most part, that's us on these forums and tf2maps.net and teamfortress.tv and r/truetf and even r/tf. We recognize the value in regular updates because those at least temporarily satiate those of us who churn over every small change to the game. Then there's the other group. The ones that don't gather on forums to talk about the game constantly, that are just very casual. They might have fond memories of TF2's glory days or they might be relative newbies. They come in for Halloween every year, or Smissmas, or whenever there's a huge update that draws their attention, but otherwise they're off doing other things and generally don't even think about TF2. I suspect that the second group is larger -- much, much larger -- and for them, a lack of Uber sized updates may very well be dissatisfaction. Big updates could be their bread and butter because that's the only time they actually play. Contrast that with us, here. We see an update that consists of a few long-needed weapon balances and a new case with some cosmetics, and we'll obsess and discuss it for weeks on end. It's very hard to remember that as dedicated to the game as we may be, we don't necessarily represent the volumes of players that might jump into a game of TF2. I'm not claiming this is actually how things are, but it's something to keep in mind when generalizing about the typical TF2 player.
Given how poorly MyM was received I think Valve probably wanted the Pyro/Jungle update to be really big/impressive and polished as possible. The fact that it's going to have a SFM movie means that a lot of lapsed TF2 players are going to be aware of this update. Personally I want to still get a summer and Christmas update with campaigns and re-balances in the future even if it means each of those updates is smaller than this upcoming update (and of course the yearly Halloween update, and throw in a community MVM update in March/April Valve to round out the year now that they have so many Iron Gauntlet/MVM Potato Servers contest maps/missions to choose from) but I think I get why Valve did what they did with this update. [editline]2nd August 2017[/editline]
I want someone at valve to logically explain to me why there cant be another blog post. :disappoint:
Yeah I don't get why they just don't spend a few minutes to answer the rest of the VNN interview questions and let hardcore fans know what's going on through that. Their silence is really getting annoying.
Thats a great way to meme vote in items like the Madkap
I don't think Valve is going to pick those.
Valve is an okay company. They do have a problem with the structure, it's not built for shitting out updates, but even with such a huge problem they're still pretty good. Though like I said numerous times, TF2 absolutely could use more people working on it.
If you could explain why you believe Valve is a respectable company beyond lucking into a monopoly through Steam, I would very much appreciate the insight into your rationale.
I want someone at valve to logically explain to me why there cant be another blog post. :disappoint:
maybe the tf2 team is working at full speed on the update and cant do it rn. Or maybe they are so invested on it they even forgot about it
There's an awkward tween who frequents my server. He wanted some strange weapons but had no idea about trading. I attempted to explain the values of a few items (in refined metal) and he said "you keep using those numbers, what do they mean?" After considerable effort on my part, he understood the value of what he had and what stranges I was able to source for him (a set of 3 demo swords, a black box, a revolver and a Bazaar Bargain.) He doesn't have a smart phone, so the trade is on a 15 day hold. He asked me no less than four times if I'd confirmed the trade and I'm STILL not sure he understands why he didn't get his items right away. The point of this otherwise uninteresting tale? In my head, it's now a race between this trade going through and Valve releasing the update. My current bet is on the "post squeaker" grasping the basics of trading being the first occurrence.
maybe the tf2 team is working at full speed on the update and cant do it rn. Or maybe they are so invested on it they even forgot about it
Or maybe Jill enjoys watching our pain and suffering so much that he's intentionally holding back the update and any information about it. #TF2ConspiracyTheories
Too many maps is actually malicious for TF2, given the fact that more maps means more of the playerbase more divided, and thus more trouble for the matchmaker, causing longer queue times and half dead games. If we were to half the maps available in TF2 right now, queue times and the amount of half dead matches would also be halfed. I personally believe that we are slowly reaching a state where TF2 should have a monthly rotation of maps in casual, really.
Remove 2Fort, Hightower, Turbine, Dustbowl and Harvest from casual. Watch the playerbase riot. ...actually, that's not a half bad idea.

So about this Cat Bot thing... Playing on some PL_Upward on Australian server just a few hours ago and this time got a screenshot: I have edited out the Discord link for obvious reasons. There were other bot numbers too and other chat messages, but this is the gist of the situation. I am thinking the whole "removed by system" thing, is just part of the bot and not anything of Valve's doing. I fear for the worst.

A couple of weeks ago I felt like playing passtime for some reason and the matchmaker was able to put me in a backfill passtime match that was nearly full very quickly. I imagine in some regions though certain maps and modes are pretty dead.
There are at least three TF2 cheats that allow for custom disconnect messages. Cathook is one of them. I've noticed a huge uptick in the number of highly visible cathook rage hackers recently. What's significant about cathook (besides the fact that it's new and not Nullcore, Lithium or Lmaobox) is that it's linux native (and AFAIK only on linux.) I can't say this with any authority, but I've read that VAC is highly ineffective on Linux. I hope Valve stets up their effort in this area.

speaking of cat-bot, the first few comments to this steam forum post are pathetic and sad http://steamcommunity.com/app/440/discussions/0/1471966894878258268 "long live cat bot" "k dont care" "upset gamer detected" i thought the "haha ur so mad!" shtick got old like 5 years ago, but i guess not the steam forums is a goldmine lmfao

This shows how incompetent regulating systems associated with VALVe games are. There are much more threats than plain aimbots, and yet they struggle to handle even those. Yes, everything gets resolved eventually, but urgency is as much of an important factor as quality of detection in this area. But at the same time i don't think that either catbot or lmaobox creator wanted to show this problem to people by their projects. It's common knowledge, and they are just competent people misapplying their knowledge
at this point i'm pretty sure they're only making these bots to practice their programming skills, which is incredibly impressive or tf2's security is just that incredibly flimsy

More maps doesn't mean more servers with the same number of players, causing longer queue times, it just means that when the game coordinator grabs 12 players, it has a different option of map to stick them in. Even if people are really selective about which maps they have enabled, the game coordinator only needs to find one map in common between 12 people, and it can put them all in that server. Queue times wouldn't be affected at all. Valve should add as many high quality maps as they can, it's nothing but a positive for the community. A rotating map pool would be the absolute worst thing they could do for the game. I would instantly stop playing, it would make the game so, so much more boring for me. Playing the same map over and over again for a week would be absolutely awful and accomplish nothing.
I noticed that all source games got updated except for TF2 Unless it somehow went under my radar

If that was the case why being such an asshole to everyone calling you out, why selling that crap to people so they can rage hacks? and the one that trigger me the most, they act like they ae gods "holy shit I can do things you cant because im superior lol" while not being aware how cringy they are. This people should get their motherboard banned so next time they have to spend time and money
Oh fuck. I actually remmeber long while back, Nullifiedcat joined the R/TF2 discord to talk about how they were developing a cheat for Linux. I think this is actually the fruits of thier labour we're seeing.
