5. YES, THE LIST OF FEATURES PEOPLE THINK ARE COMING, ARE COMING.
Does it include the rebalances from the blog post though? They were not on the list.
Since they're finishing the update, I wonder if that means they've picked community items and maps yet? "finish and ship" sounds like they're already done everything and are tidying up but as far as I know no mappers or item makers have been contacted. I have a feeling the TF Team may have been waiting for Arms Race to end to see if any weapons would be a good fit.
Does it include the rebalances from the blog post though? They were not on the list.
Keep in mind these questions were rather old, i dont believe the blog post even came out when he sent those in. I think its safe to say we are getting those, though.
FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO READ THE ANSWERS (Spoilers: Only 5/8 were awnsered):3. "They're finishing up the summer update, but I can't specify when it will be out" (Did anyone really think otherwise?)
I mean, yes. We didn't really know when the update would be finished, but at least we now have confirmation of it being finished up (a.k.a. presumably playtesting/final touches).
In my experience, that's one of the last things they do. There's usually no achievements or anything tied to those maps. They are just a name in the update, nothing else. Halloween maps had gargoyles placed on them though.
While I'm real happy to hear some actual news from Tyler, I'm still a bit confused as to where he got confirmation that Saxxy winners were playing a new jungle payload map from Valve. From all of the circles I'm in and around, I haven't heard anything as such. It was only the winners playing honest to goodness Thundermountain with the team and having a good time. Otherwise it was a pretty solid video for the most part. I feel like when it comes to tf2 community news, Tyler should have someone that's actually within the community and trustworthy to double-check his facts and won't mess with him so his stories are as close to the truth as you can get. A silly suggestion, but I think a buffer such as this could possibly prevent small blunders/errors in future videos. One thing I do wish Tyler would bring back is when he used to add a little "pop" sound whenever he went into speculation mode. Over his last few videos I just -barely- miss the "speculation" text in the top left-hand corner of his uploads and I can't imagine how many others might miss these things, too. Good on ya for getting some answers out of the team though, lad. Keep at it.
I'm sure there's people that enjoy the Mannpower mode, but I can't help but cynically point out how they constantly need to adjust the benefit of power-up bonuses to specific classes and weapons, and how they even need to change the functionality of core class mechanics (like the Engie's upgrade speed) just to prevent OP combos of weapons and powers and/or the frustrating cases of certain combos just bolting away with the flag easily. Just shows you how flawed and impossible to balance the mode is inherently - when you add super-strong power-ups and nearly unlimited mobility via grappling hook as dozens of new variables to a balance equation that already containts 9 very unique classes and 100+ different weapons... I can't even keep up with the many ways of how different powers and the grappling hook confer different-level bonuses and limitations to different classes and loadouts.
Some interesting answers (still no date for the update) and what I think are the 2 most interesting questions (the future of TF2 and Source 2) not answered yet, but I do appreciate the TF2 team giving out these answers.
Asteroid on hold while we work on bigger priorities, like the far worse gamemode Mannpower.
Perhaps it is time for us to all email the TF team, explaining why we think Cactus or Asteroid (or both) should be finished.
Asteroid on hold while we work on bigger priorities, like the far worse gamemode Mannpower.
Cactus Canyon on hold while we work on bigger priorities, like making a yellow cosmetic case blue.
I want to get back into TF2, but I haven't played it since around the Halloween event with the go karts, how much has changed?
For those looking for what The TF team said about the release window: "Were actively trying to finish and ship the update, but I cant be more specific than that" *sic Taken straight from Tyler's video.
4. They plan things out as a group, then people sign up for what they want to do if they think its a good fit. They prioritize the harder/riskier things first, so they can try and fix/recoordinate their efforts they made as a group.
I had a very long reply to this, but I figure I was overanalyzing it, so I'll just say: This explains quite a lot, and I must say it seems to be the root of the problem with the state of communication and the lack of updates currently.
so is this week the week or should we wait for toweek to be the week? honestly I'm glad they put the mannpower update separate from the jungle update itself, imagine if that server crashing bug showed up with the main update itself, it would've ruined tf2
I'm glad we got some information. I really don't mean to sound like a jerk. And I have a huge respect for the work the TF team is doing but, doesn't it seem like they're doing very little in a very long time span? I don't mean only the pyro update (we still don't know what more is to come with it). Sometimes I really wish to know how exactly valve works on the inside. Sounds like it's very chaotic and inefficient.
so is this week the week or should we wait for toweek to be the week? honestly I'm glad they put the mannpower update separate from the jungle update itself, imagine if that server crashing bug showed up with the main update itself, it would've ruined tf2
the major update will certainly not include a bug only crashing servers running mannpower, most likely something worse, let's hope it gets fixed as fast as this one was
I wish I could say this fills me with confidence.
What did Tyler mean by timing the upload? Will the upload start then or will the video go public right away?
video is out amiego edit: im always late to the party...
For those looking for what The TF team said about the release window: "Were actively trying to finish and ship the update, but I cant be more specific than that" *sic Taken straight from Tyler's video.
If there is a comic on this update, i guess we all know the reason what they were waiting for to get done.
Based on us getting this little update and what Tyler was told, I would guess they wanted it out this week, but decided to push that other update instead as the big one was not finished. I really am feeling not this week, nor the next, but rather the following.
I can't see the release date being later than August. That'd be absurd in my opinion.
It's good to know that the update is being finalized. I just pray it's actually this month. I don't think I can handle one more month.
I want to get back into TF2, but I haven't played it since around the Halloween event with the go karts, how much has changed?
Shit ton of weapon balances, new competitive mode, replacement of quickplay with casual, skins and tiered cases (similar to CS:GO) and major updates now have campaigns in which you complete contracts (daily objectives like "Get 10 backstabs").
I've been telling my self and my friends that toweek is the week for the past 2 months.... jeez times flies
I can't see the release date being later than August. That'd be absurd in my opinion.
This word sums up everything about this game: absurd
what will happend if the update is not on august??
what will happend if the update is not on august??
outrage and update later than august what else
the major update will certainly not include a bug only crashing servers running mannpower, most likely something worse, let's hope it gets fixed as fast as this one was
Valve has shipped multiple hot fixes on the same day as major updates, I doubt it will be a huge problem. Now I wouldn't be surprised if the TF GC/item servers are semi-broken for a day or two due to high strain on them.
so is this week the week or should we wait for toweek to be the week? honestly I'm glad they put the mannpower update separate from the jungle update itself, imagine if that server crashing bug showed up with the main update itself, it would've ruined tf2
Given the Questions, you can totally make an argument for next week. I'm just happy we finally have something to prove that the Update is not "still under development" and will not release in October but actually just being finished up. I certainly hope it's next week given that's the last week I'll be able to effectively play, but that's a personal issue. See y'all next week, this time with actually something substantial to hold onto!
Worth noting that you guys should prepare yourself for it NOT coming out next week. Next week from the 7th to the 12th is The International Main Event, and, ever since TI2 back in 2012, there has never been a single tf2 update or even a patch released during the Main Event of The International. Ever. Not once. Unless it launches today or tomorrow, I'd hold my breath until next next week, not the 7th through the 11th. They've had updates launch the day before, and the day immediately after, but never during. So uh, spread that word I suppose, if anything launches next week I'll be fucking blown away by it, because it'd be completely unprecedented.
