This just messes up rollouts right? Why would valve update this.
What do you mean?
He's probably talking about explosive jumping pre-round to get outside the spawn quicker for rollouts, but they disabled explosive jumping on pre-rounds some time ago already.
The August 2th update broke being able to shoot or heal in pre-round time. This was really bad because it stopped you from overhealing your team as medic and rollout in 6s/HL/etc.
I haven't played the game in like 2 months, but from what I understood I think that update broke shooting or healing in freeze time regardless of the server's setting of allowing knockback in freezetime or not, also even in casual, in freezetime you can heal and shoot but you can't move yourself in any way
They didn't say it was "incredibly close"
They said they were finishing up. That could mean anything.
They didn't even say that they are 'finishing up'. They literally said that they are trying to finish the update and people decided that means that it's almost finished. They've been 'trying to finish' the update since they started developing it.
Although, I do agree that them answering the questions means that it could possibly be close.

That is why i was confused because that has been for a while now.

When you say you are "trying to finish and ship the update" it means it's close to being done, yes.
You don't start a project and say "I'm finishing it and trying to ship it" when someone asks about your progress when you are still in baby shoes, that ain't how language works.

You gotta remember this is a Valve employee we're talking about, for some reason they don't quite have the same perception of time that us normal humans do.
Each time when i read that phrase - "trying to finish and ship" - an image occures to me, where TF2 devs sit in a room, lights out, only projector and monitors light up the room. One of them clicks on a big "publish" button, and every one of them look with anticipation on progress bar filling up. But somewhere along the way it stops interrupted with error message "Error: update release was not complete". They are all upset, some try to calm them and each others down, some go out to smoke or to have some coffee, they all walk around for some time and then gather deciding to try again tomorrow.

This.
So should you be able to fire/heal in pre-round or have they stopped that purposely?
Can anyone that's at the International next week look out for a group of dads accompanied by a hot man? Just so we can see if we should get any hopes up or not
This.

There was an update last night that fixed this.
- Fixed players being unable to shoot or heal during pre-round freeze time
- Updated the localization files
That would require associating with the degenerates known as Dota 2 players. At any rate, I have more faith in the United States Congress passing a health care bill than Valve releasing this update.

It kinda is for developers though. As a software developer you never really know how much work is still ahead of you, this is not just Valve's issue. You can easily feel like you're finishing up for a very long time, just doing optimizations and refactoring and not really making much if any tangible progress anymore, and any time you feel like you're getting close to being done you look at the to-do list and find it's only gotten longer due to some things that had not been accounted for before. They may very well have been finishing up since June. They could still be finishing up a month from now. It's kind of a pointless piece of information really.

Is it possible for an ordinary mapmaker to make their map change appearance when Pyrovision is on?
Is it possible for an ordinary mapmaker to make their map change appearance when Pyrovision is on?
Pyrovision effects only apply to maps listed in mtp.cfg (which is a pretty small list by default and doesn't cover maps released post-Pyromania.)

In order to get it to affect custom maps, they need to be manually added into the config. E.g.

I'm not denying that there is always a chance for problems to arise even though they think they are almost done, however the TF Team is usually extremely vague when it comes to stuff like this. They did not choose this wording to say that the Update will still be in the making for 3 months. I wouldn't call it pointless at all.

I guess I wasn't being clear - this isn't about random complications that may or may not arise, it's more like sailing in a sea of random complications that arise all the damn time and you don't know anything about how long they will take to resolve - could be 5 minutes, could be 2 weeks.
Simply put, they are only marginally more aware of when the update is shipping than we are.
If you expect them to respond in a "Nah,we're not done yet, go do something else" way, I don't even know what to say, honestly.
I was not expecting this, I was expecting them to skip the question like they did with some others, since they usually say nothing about ETAs.
If you expect them to respond in a "Nah,we're not done yet, go do something else" way, I don't even know what to say, honestly.
valve always blank questions that they don't want to answer, they never just answer to shut you up.
them saying the word "finishing" makes me think less about a release date and more about their intent, we can safely say that the team intend to release the update as soon as possible. it all just depends how soon that actually is.
I really do hope this gets enough attention, i want TF2 at ESL to happen again.
And you thought meme maps were dead

Anything that has meme in it would never be truly dead. It's like a zombie virus, you can't stop it. You can dismember it, lock up pieces behind moderation, but what you do is isolate yourself from it, and you know that on the other side it's still there, still alive
Off-topic: could anyone help me with a dilemma? I decided to broaden my spectrum of skills in TF2 and play some sniper. I have this nerve problem when i twitch my hand, sometimes my whole body before shooting just because how tense i am, and mastering skill of precision shooting will take many hours for me. But i can't even practice it in normal environment, because e v e r y o n e plays sniper. You have to have a good team to defend you from the front to lay back and do some sniping, and in casual if you don't play power class - nobody plays power class. Community servers are same kind of deal, except nobody will scream at you for picking sniper, and bot training - that's good only for getting familiar with mechanics, which i think i nailed down. How can i practice it without hurting anyone's experience?

As long as theses maps will be a quick and easy way to get a lot of workshop internet points and add revenue for youtubers, they will be around. At least they don't replace the good maps in the most popular section anymore.

2fort
2fort
2fort teaches you that you have to twitch aim 100% of the time to keep the enemy sniper from shooting you before you shoot them. It doesn't teach you how to be a good sniper in a normal game.

Use the Machina and Darwin's Danger Shield. The update won't be here for another four months, so don't worry about the nerf.
