Does anyone know of a way to edit and test custom weapon stats in a private server with bots? I used to have fun editing items_game.txt and playing with bots and overpowered unlocks, but a few years back they forced consistency for items_games.txt as a requirement for launching TF2 because people found a way to abuse it in public servers.
Look into Sourcemod and TF2Items. For more advanced things you can try TF2Attributes. Anything that does not already exist as a functioning attribute, you have to code yourself.
Played today some casual, met cheater on goldrush. He had some variation of spinbot, but he wasn't spinning - only looking straight up with perfect shot precision. I think that spinning and walking are separately activated routines in cheat pack, and if desired you can turn only aimbot on, because he was failing hard even with aimbot, using smg most of the time (that aimbot used to fire in single shots, aiming for the head each time), and failing to dodge even most distant pipes, dying every time he had not clear shot. That with his account not being set up and nickname consisting literally from random characters created impression of complete failure of person. He didn't leave area near spawn even when cart was nearing second point, so nobody seemed to care enough about him. I asked one guy on the other team who was communicating to kick the cheater, but he said that he tried and everybody voted no. I didn't beleive him at first, because he seemed douchy himself, but now i think he was honest. They tried to push, but we demolished them even without sentries. Then medic, not a brainless gibus either, ubered that sniper and he killed everyone near point while one remaining heavy pushed the cart to the end. Is that victory really worth that much, to be actively complicit with cheaters?
Not really? They said we'll get another set of weapons that work with eachother, that doesn't mean a subclass.
"along with that we're doing the pyro class pack so the Pyro will receive sort of a general balancing pass, new weapons to go along with it so if you've seen some of our past class packs you kind of get an idea of what to expect where we sort of examine each slot and see what we'd want to put in it, usually something that will change the class in some way, some new gameplay twist" ~ DRiller
https://youtu.be/fmo2JUbpf_Y?t=184
he doesn't specifically say new subclass, but that does seem like what it is
EDIT: also, while it is likely to be only 3 new weapons in each slot, that wasn't mentioned anywhere, it seems they want to add whatever they feel is needed, so it might be more
Man its depressing to see that Overwatch just got another Major Update :( (I Know that their team is much bigger... but still)
lore from item descriptions?
...is this the D A R K S O U L S of FPS?
I think that title goes to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. It's not necessarily hard but it'll kick your ass if you're not paying attention

and it's always in a bad mood

For their team size rehashing an event with a few new skins isn't exactly 'MAJOR' now is it?

Releasing crate with a few skins was a sign of major update in TF2 last time i checked
Releasing crate with a few skins was a sign of major update in TF2 last time i checked
For Team Overwatch's size a crate with a few new skins in it is laughable.
That can be done by several concept artists and a few modellers, so what is the rest doing?
As a note I'm not bashing on OW at all, I play it myself now and then. But classing a crate with a few new skins and a rehashed gamemode as major is a joke...

Still new content, and yes its not much considering the team size
There has been a "subclass" of Pyro for years: using the shotgun as primary and the degreaser to send projectiles back. In spite of the overall weakness of the class, really good shotgun pyros (HA Johnny et al) are some of meanest MFers in TF2. I call them "chubby scouts." They can't move much, outside of very creative switching to the PowerJack, but their hitscan aim is insane and their ability to meatshot is painful. They use airblasts to send every projectile sent at them ends up going back whence it came, and to keep enemies exactly where they want them. There's also the "Sketchek" (RIP, you were a god) playstyle of detonator jumping and airborne axtinguisher combos. Few people besides the man himself could pull off moves like that. Unfortunately, the changes Valve have made to Pyro (and specifically the Gas Jockey set) over the last few years have hurt the highest skill pyro players the most. Pyro has gone in the complete opposite direction of Scout and Sniper over the years.
WRT cheaters, the terms vary between different cheat programs, but spinbot has several components: looking straight up is "view lock." Spinbot has a spinning (duh) mechanic as well as pitch and yaw movement. A while ago when I was researching Nullcore, I watched a few videos done by a guy with a really thick French accent. There was a function of NC's spinbot called "anti-aim" which involved looking down at a specific angle. From what I remember the purpose of this feature is for "HvH" (hacker vs hacker) play, to throw other aimbots off. I am mystified why cheaters find their HvH "skills" so important. It's like having a dick waving contest where the participants have glued plastic dildos to the ends of their chonsons.
overwatch's major updates, even if they're more frequent than TF2's, are usually not much at all, especially when considering more gameplay intensive features such as maps and heroes, which to my knowledge, only three or four heroes have been added since release, and most of them aren't even viable in pubplay let alone "competitive", and I really don't envy them because of this
short term content is still far superior to zero content.
It's not a coincidence they hired Jill specifically for tf2. the older employees are clearly sick with the game.
I wish they were honest enough to at least hint about that.

to be fair, if cheat programming is a skill, then designing a cheat to counter other hackers who are also trying to out-program you would be the most interesting and challenging part of it. i get it.
it's sort of like one of those old robot fighting shows, where engineers build machines to try to counter each other, except instead it's held in a public soccer field full of regular people who are just trying to play their game and don't want the robots to be there :v:
That's dick waving for the guy who codes the cheat, sure. The cheat users OTOH, are at best waving his dick around in effigy.

i get the feeling driller still enjoys working on it

They are making all the content themselves too, no outsourcing to the community for the cosmetics/maps. At the same time they are also working on new heroes, maps and general balance changes. I really prefer these smaller content updates to waiting ages for a single big update. The up side to this style of update is that they don't really get over hyped, and even if you do find one disappointing there is another right around the corner. When you have to wait more than a year for a big update that gets hyped to hell and back you run the risk of it being a huge let down. In some cases disappointing enough for people to leave.
EDIT: The TF2 team should really adopt this delivery format. It would get weapon balances and bug fixes out far quicker and prevent them being held back for a larger update. Toss in a map/event/set here and there and the community would probably be pretty happy.
He's referencing the note from Saxton Hale no doubt.
Anyone that believes the TF Team is sick of the game should have a talk with the people that actually met them in person.

what is public relations
Anyone that believes the TF Team is sick of the game should have a talk with the people that actually met them in person.
If a face to face interrogation is the only way to understand that your developers have an ounce of care for your game, spoiler alert, you're a shitty fucking developer.

the fact that the only way we can judge their enthusiasm is by sending actual emissaries to valve like it's the goddamned united nations should say something.

I ain't saying this is a good thing - I'm just saying that the claim that the TF Team isn't passionate for the game can be easily broken.
I wonder if they're enjoying themselves working the concession stands for the International.
what is public relations
Nonexistent.
There is still a small small change that the update comes out this week, MyM was announced on a wednesday and then released on thursday
I honestly would stop waiting so much, and just focus your mind on something else, unless you wanna waste time, waiting everyday for the annoucement of the update.
