Highly unlikely. Invasion and halloween were released both in the same month. I dont think valve likes to let it go that close again and let 2 events collide with short playtime on both. I think they are really pushing it out asap. But the longer they take, the more unlikely a valve made halloween map is going to be.
Honestly, I think it's pretty likely that Valve is done with doing unique halloweens, especially if they've been working the whole year on this update. I'd see them releasing this and then turning on halloween mode like they have the past two years, and add in some maps to make official, like Slasher. As far as the update goes, I am expecting it's received either lukewarm or poorly. With a year of lead time, and with TF2's community being pretty difficult to please, expectations are high and I highly doubt that all of them will be met. Keep in mind, I also say these things because I'd love to be proven wrong, I definitely miss the old updates and multi-day extravaganzas like the Sniper VS Spy update. Realistically, I don't see it hitting that level of enjoyment. Actually, now I'm genuinely curious: What were people's favorite updates? Mine were the Pyro, Sniper VS Spy, WAR!, Australian Christmas, Scream Fortress 1 & 2, Uber Update, and MvM
Spy v Sniper, both of the early Christmas events, WAR (1) and ghost fort are my picks. So many good maps and items. So many good jokes.
Seeing reactions to artifact from TF2 players I can't help but feel a bit of schadenfreude :v:

Meaning, they pitch in and ask what we can do for them or them ask what they can do for us. Sure, we the community part can push out maps and use the exiting stuff, or even invent little something new as you might see in the maps that get submitted into the workshop before halloween this year. I know many people who have started working on halloween map already for this year and there is no sign that Valve isn't doing so themselves. Then again assuming this year goes like previous ones, they rely on us to make maps instead. Hopefully they are not done and not just add another unusualifier for weapons to make it more interesting or double chance unusual rate but put out a map themselves too.

Are only reskins of existing bosses possible?
Even with this, Valve still won't learn their lesson.
Any MvM update (which is all three)
How possible is it for map makers to make new boss monsters without Valve help? Are only reskins of existing bosses possible?
I mean, it's just an artpass for most of these, not adding a monster. That's all Valve's decision. Some other maps incorporate previous bosses.
Even with this, Valve still won't learn their lesson.
I'm curious what you mean by this.
How possible is it for map makers to make new boss monsters without Valve help? Are only reskins of existing bosses possible?
You cant even do reskins of the monsters, just use them with questionable methods. Some of the stuff Valve uses are done completely in coding and not in map entities that we could use. This includes the sd_doomsday_event spellbooks that arent really looking like books or the carts spellbook dispensers on helltower. There are also few issues on the existing things that we can use on maps. For example in the helltower, teleport method "Halloween2013TeleportToHell" after cart explosion gives permanent healthboost for the winners in hell and and slow regeneration for the losers, if its used in community maps. Even on start of the next round. I've notified them about this and they said they will look into it after the current update is done. They are heads-down working on it.
The lukewarm to negative response to Artifact would be an epiphanous moment for any company with deteriorating public relations--any company other than Valve.
They will be fine. Game will probably rock [editline]9th August 2017[/editline]
The lukewarm to negative response to Artifact would be an epiphanous moment for any company with deteriorating public relations--any company other than Valve.
Dota players were expecting the next new hero reveal, something that usually happens during TI. It happens to be a hero of a group of 4 elemental heroes, that are tied to gems of different colors. That triangle symbol had 4 different gemstones. You can see were I am going After the shock people will probably be curious
But hearthstone already exists. Why would I spend time play a clone of it unless it's lightyears better? (Unlikely)
What makes it a clone exactly?
I have played and enjoyed every single Valve game until Dota 2 came out, I never played nor felt interested in any Blizzard game until Overwatch came out, Valve please don't turn into Blizzard. like, I'm not asking for HL3, I'm not asking for any specific game, I liked Valve for what they did best, FPS. all I want is a new singleplayer FPS or something like portal, or a new multiplayer FPS. now watch them announce an MMO or an RPG in 2023
But hearthstone already exists. Why would I spend time play a clone of it unless it's lightyears better? (Unlikely)
this man is correct
But hearthstone already exists. Why would I spend time play a clone of it unless it's lightyears better? (Unlikely)
As written on reddit by Day9 : "There are three game boards that represent the lanes You control 5 heroes, just like DotA You can equip item cards on to the Heroes that you buy with gold There are creeps that spawn every turn You can play creature cards Some cards are cast on the lane and have persistent effects on that lane Each Hero has abilities like their DotA counterparts ("You can cast track on a Hero as Bounty Hunter and get extra Gold")" How the hell does this remind someone of hearthstone?
I guess my dream of a Halloween map reskin of a snow map with an evil Santa or Snowman (or both) will never happen unless Valve decides to do a Nightmare Before Smissmas update.
Its doable to certain extent, but not as bot that is using navigation like HHH, Monoculus or skeletons. You can animate a snowman model that shouts bad stuff over some roof while top of it only showing and waving hands and then maybe add some dropping snowballs that players need to dodge. That thing is easy, as long as someone makes the models, animates them, someone does the sounds and someone puts out a map. You can have some randomizing on it, but things like this eat lots of entities and those are usually scarce in halloween maps. Once the pattern is know, players just stand on spots where snowballs never drop.
The lukewarm to negative response to Artifact would be an epiphanous moment for any company with deteriorating public relations--any company other than Valve.
You mean like when they made Dota 2 out of the blue and everyone was scratching their heads?
it's something when dota fans don't even want artifact
What surprises me the most about artifact is how it will be developed until 2018. What is there even to develop? If they released it during international, like bethesda released fallout shelter on E3 during 4 anouncement - people would grab it like hot pies. But teaser for card game - it's embarassing, and now they are stuck with brand new project that even intended consumer doesn't want
Say what you want about blizzard but diablo and starcraft/warcraft were pretty good, until WoW came out they were known for making actual games.
didn't say anything about the games themselves being bad, I just hate that genre more than I hate my life. now Valve is cashing in on that type of games because why not take an opportunity of having a moneymaker in a popular genre, but Blizzard is doing the same as well, and they're being more successful with it

I dont know why you guys act like this, it IS a valve game, when has a game developed by valve been bad? this shows that they at least work in something (something asked about everyone )and they are not in the basement painting guns. Im not a moba fan, but hearstonelooked interesting, I will sign in for the beta asap

Why wouldn't I just play Dota instead?
A new Valve game? And its DOTA related? Am I the only one who is pissed off by DOTA existing?
I dont know why you guys act like this, it IS a valve game, when has a game developed by valve been bad?
Half Life Source Not sure if it counts since it's a port.
Half Life Source Not sure if it counts since it's a port.
The game is bad technically speaking. I wouldnt be surprised if people considered it a cashgrab and a "shut up here is your port" move
