As someone who was around for Mann vs Machine, it was hilariously broken on launch.
I remember 2hour+ Queue times just to try the mode and putting you on to servers with horrible ping.
Which I suppose is the ususal valve standard for quality regarding tf2.
MvM was only "broken" on the first day, and that was more because everybody and their grandmother was trying to queue up for it, not issues with the mode itself.
Is the flamethrower in the 2017 version of TF2 higher poly? It would seem that it's lower, since the round parts are way more blocky in 2017 tf2 and the round parts are more round and detailed in 2007 tf2.

The flamethrower one is a bit harder to tell what has actually happened. When they were moving everything over to combined models they would always base it off of the world model which was pretty low poly (They also managed to fuck up the UVs but that's been fixed now at least) and I assume in the process they managed to over write or just lost the original files from before they optimized everything for release so unlike every other weapon it's the only one that's been downgraded (model wise).
Something I forgot to mention is that the old W model used two separate textures which they combined into one and that's what caused the fucked up UVs. If you take a close look at the old bucket icons you can kind of see what the models originally looked like before they optimized everything

speaking of dislikable ytbers, i dunno why i still remember shibby
if i'm correct, everyone seems to dislike him and he just disappeared months later
i always liked him, he was my favorite part of T.U.G.S too

afaik Shibby was part of the folk that went "TF2 is fucking DEAD guys" and then disappeared forever
Does anyone think giving new players a non tradeable version of every weapon would be a good idea?
It's the only thing stopping TF2 from being a fully non-P2W game...it's not entirely a problem if one plays regularly, but especially for people new to the game it's not terribly obvious that all the weapons can be traded with a single key purchase or using sites like scrap.tf to trade weapons you're not using for other weapons until you've got enough weapon drops to cover them all.
Ignoring things like trying to make a better system than just dumping all of them on a player when they first start a game, it probably depends on how much Valve makes from weapon purchases in the mann co. store...which I wouldn't doubt is a high enough number for them to pass on the idea of just giving them all away.
Every weapon should be an achievement weapon. Just assign every weapon to some achievement or other, particularly the achievements that encourage playing "correctly."
Every weapon should be an achievement weapon. Just assign every weapon to some achievement or other, particularly the achievements that encourage playing "correctly."
But many weapons teach things that are contrary to correctly playing. Phlog teaching to W+M1. Brass Beast to be constantly spun up (sorta, that spin up penalty is still heavy tho), Blutsauger (which already is an achievement weapon) to combat medic, etc.
Phlog teaching to W+M1.
What's the correct way to play Pyro then? Never kill people with your flamethrower and only use gimmicky crit combos that take no skill?
What's the correct way to play Pyro then? Never kill people with your flamethrower and only use gimmicky crit combos that take no skill?
I'll be honest. Neither me nor anyone else can really answer this question. Pyro is all over the place. If Pyro is supposed to be an ambusher, then yeah Phlog is fine. If he is supposed to be an offensive support, then Phlog is bad.

What does "offensive support" mean though? Because idiotic crit gimmicks don't imply "support" at all. Airblast is the only thing Pyro has that lets them support their team, besides the basically-useless Homewrecker. And there are only three ways a Pyro is going to support their team with it:
1. Airblasting the advancement of an uber push. Pretty useless if the rest of the team murders the Pyro.
2. Airblasting projectiles going towards the rest of the team. If you're the enemy Soldier/Demoman, you're not going to be aiming at the Pyro when shooting the enemy if you know he's just there to airblast. And if you're a Scout, you're going to fuck the Pyro. If you're a Soldier and you know there's a Pyro on the other team, you might just pack a Shotgun with you to deal with them. Or you can just time your rockets so the Pyro can't do jack shit against you.
3. Extinguishing teammates: Never going to happen in 6s unless Pyro becomes meta and his afterburn is actually deadly (something I think should happen, but that's not within this topic)
And none of these really define the Pyro as a class. Pyro is supposed to burn things. What is basically a stunlock shouldn't be the reason a person plays Pyro, and it certainly shouldn't define the class. Combos ought to be completely weaned off of the class, and the Flamethrower itself needs to gain a new level of skill. Airblast should be used so the Pyro can defend themselves and others, but it shouldn't be the reason anyone plays the class.
I've been saying things like this for a while, though.

What you missed is the 'supportive' aspect of being the best spy-checker around. I still wholeheartedly agree with your post.
What you missed is the 'supportive' aspect of being the best spy-checker around. I still wholeheartedly agree with your post.
Which is completely irrelevant in 6s, as Spy is weak. After balancing is done, this may change, but at the moment Pyro is too weak to deal with a DR Spy. Spy is far too fast with DR for the Pyro to chase, and even without DR he's now faster than the Pyro. Pyro doesn't really counter Spy anymore (though he should).

I always was a little bit interested in why they choose to make the brass beast the way it is. It actually plays just like heavy used to play in the original quake mod, with some minor differences. Instead of moving at an extremely slow speed, I recall if heavy moved too fast his gun would automatically stop firing. This often forced heavies to play very defensively back then. It wasn't uncommon to see heavies hiding in corners like a sentry and blasting people the instant they ran around the corner.
TFC changed it though to more how stock heavy ran if I recall, and of course TF2 is how it is currently.
It feels weird that they'd give heavy a weapon that reverted him to a harder playstyle.
Just think, you could be using heavy's miniguns, while playing on a minigun
What's the correct way to play Pyro then? Never kill people with your flamethrower and only use gimmicky crit combos that take no skill?
Yes because flamethrowers on their own are nowhere near as viable as degreaser+shotgun/flare. And even that method is still weak compared to like, every other class's stock weapons.
And don't pull that "it takes no skill" shit when the Feet Shoot Man exists. Relying on a dinky shotgun or a slow firing projectile to kill people isn't that easy. Especially considering competent pyros don't actually airblast combo constantly.
Yes because as the flamethrowers stand currently, they're nowhere near as viable as degreaser+shotgun/flare. And even that method is still weak compared to like, every other class's stock weapons.
Hopefully the Pyro update changes all of that. I'm sick of the only methods of killing as a Pyro being unfun to play against and relatively unskillful.

I guess I don't get your point here. Are you saying these weapons shouldn't be in the game? That these "incorrect" weapons should be tied to "incorrect" achievements?
I put correct in quotes because it's subjective. I doubt any two people would agree in all cases about what is good vs. wrong. I just figure if they did this, they should favor achievements like "extinguish burning teammates" over ones like "taunt while ubered."
Phlog doesn't encourage w+M1, you'd die doing that even faster than with stock. It encourages ambushing from around a corner at groups of people. Unless you consider using the primary fire for anything other than puff and sting to be w+M1
What you missed is the 'supportive' aspect of being the best spy-checker around. I still wholeheartedly agree with your post.
Is he even that anymore? Icicle and Dead Ringer make it really hard to do that.
Phlog doesn't encourage w+M1, you'd die doing that even faster than with stock. It encourages ambushing from around a corner at groups of people. Unless you consider using the primary fire for anything other than puff and sting to be w+M1
No, the phlog, in the mind of a new player encourages all the wrong habits, and needs to be given completely new stats.
W+M1 too nooby? Now here's critical W+M1, for doing what you're already supposed to do, which is light people on fire (the diamondback is this exact concept, also dumb)
Ambush? Strategy? Nah, here's a taunt that makes you invulnerable so you can do it in broad daylight and not be killed.
Airblast? Uber stalling/fire extinguishing? Nah, those silly teamwork things are less important than scorch shot spam and then blindly rushing to your death, hopefully with some cheap kills along the way.
i really hope valves buffs W+M1 and removes shitty crit gimmicks and afterburn, then makes the flare guns do more damage and better at range.
Also a a shotgun that shoots slugs instead of pellets would be cool
I just became the first person in TF2 history to beat the basic training in under 2 minutes.

Be kind of weird to have flamethrowers/fire based weaponry in the game that didn't light anyone on fire...

Your suggestion to remove afterburn
Your suggestion to remove afterburn
its so dumb tho, but i highly doubt it will be removed
I think I'd need a stronger argument than 'its so dumb tho' to remove a part of pyro's kit that had been in the game since launch
