It's August 15th in Moscow and I still think, that Heavy had to win.
But the pyro has sooo much problems and is sooo underpowered, so he definetly needs to get update first! Valve will surely fix everything in dedicated pyro update this time around!
looks like there was a steamdb update for tf2 30 minutes ago, i wonder if that means nothing
Doesn't seem like it means anything, CS:GO had it too.
Doesn't seem like it means anything, CS:GO had it too.
The cs go sub went wild after that (if you mean that on ~20h ago)
The cs go sub went wild after that (if you mean that on ~20h ago)
Nah, the one 40 mins ago.
i can honestly imagine the update releasing this week. i'm both happy and sad by this because i'm going to be out of town from tuesday-friday so i wouldn't have a chance at any of the craft numbers q_q (that is, if it actually does release within the next couple of days)
-snip i guess thats a dumb thought-
I reinstalled TF2 after getting a better computer recently. I didn't realize until after I started playing how much better the game looks on max settings. I was playing with low settings for over 6 years.
I know this has been recommended a whole lot, but it's clear we have nothing to guess 'when' the update will hit. We thought it was June, July, August... And most likely won't come out when we want it, clearly. So play some new games while we wait to kill some time and stop expecting it every week unless we get something solid to guess on the date. And when it does eventually hit, if it's good or bad you'll be happily surprised or just slightly disappointed compared to the slow grating effect of expecting each and every day. Which as the past has taught me, results in a lot of sour voices and posts if the update in the slightest isn't what people wanted.
now vac-banned in 80 countries
but what if it's straddling the border between a vac-banned country and a non-vac'd country? is it impossible to determine whether or not it's vac'd until a country is chosen-- wait a minute

So I started using the air strike and concheror as soldier for the first time, after otherwise strictly adhering to stock + gunboats for the past 9 years. Not really sure why nobody uses the airstrike, it's a great pubstomping weapon if you've got the aim for it and having 8 rockets at a time is just stupidly good.
My to-go pub-stomp loadout for soldier is Black box + Conch, otherwise you cant sustain yourself in pubs where medics don't exist. Also happy birthday Pyro War, you are 1 year old now. Let's see if anything comes out of it.
I stopped using the black box after the gunmettle nerf. There's no point in giving up 25% of your attack power in exchange for single digit health gains on airshots and directs. I mean the health is useful, but not consistent or substantial enough to equip it over the stock.

Even at 1 hp for 4.5 damage, a direct and/or all damage above ~67 damage will actually heal all previous 15 HP, or 90 damage for 20 HP. Since the Black Box shoots at one shot every .8 seconds, that equals roughly 12 health per second (assuming 70 damage is done per shot) as well as decent damage onto an enemy/crowd when firing.

Using the concheror has been great as a roamer tho, all the benefits of the gunboats for rocket jumping if you're going to be smart and sparing with your jumps, plus you can share benefits with the team.

I thought annoying/fun things were subjective. I think the black box is more balanced than it was before. You were able to regain most if not all of your HP back in one hit of a rocket before.
Wouldn't the Black Box be better against groups of players, due to the fact that you can deal more damage and therefore heal more health?
Hypothetical scenario: you're defending the center cap of harvest with a Black Box + Concheror loadout. A pyro and a demoman rush in, you have to use all 3 rockets to kill them, since it's a tight space and they're in your face. A soldier rocket jumps onto the roof, you're out of ammo, and a scout runs in around the corner. Now my options are to: reload and rocket jump onto the roof and try to slap the soldier with my melee, reload and rocket jump away and finish reloading and heal up, try to dodge both a scout and a soldier raining rockets while I reload and tediously fire a rocket at a time, kill the scout with my melee all while praying my team arrives, or eat shit because I'm outnumbered. If I had any other rocket launcher I'd have a significantly higher chance of killing that scout, manouvering away, or at least blowing the soldier off the roof while I reload. In a 1v1 scenario the black box isn't bad, but TF2 isn't a 1v1 game.

The lack of firepower in this 4v1, very well-coordinated situation does not stem from the lack of the extra rocket but the lack of a shotgun, as well as a distinctive lack of team. The Soldier can be killed with three well-placed shots and the Scout in two, all without having to reload. Even with the Rocket Launcher, it wouldn't kill the Scout in one more rocket anyway.
The Black Box is still annoying as fuck to play against, since most classes don't take more than three rockets to take out if you can aim well, as well as you getting health back on all three rockets. Since the Black Box shoots at one shot every .8 seconds, that equals roughly 12 health per second (assuming 70 damage is done per shot) as well as decent damage onto an enemy/crowd when firing.
The problem is when you're playing soldier in the reality, you don't see that 15hp per shot on anything resembling a regular basis. For those of you who don't play soldier: Realistically, dealing 67 damage per shot doesn't happen as often as it would need to to push the weapon into viability, due to enemy movement, the immense distance falloff of rocket damage, and the slow speed of the projectile. Hitting enemies with perfect or otherwise full damage shots at anything but close range yields piddles for health, 8, 9, maybe 13 if you're lucky, and that's assuming you hit with most of the splash or a direct at all. So "just aiming more" doesn't improve the health gains. I've airshot the living daylight out of bombing enemies and received almost no health in return, as the weapon is pointless against lower health targets- you'll be rounded down to worthless gains. Go actually use the thing in a non-casual setting, where enemies dont just stand still while firing. You can hit people with full damage shots, have them run directly into your rockets, and not see the gains needed to make the weapon viable over stock. Combine that with it's inherent downgrade status while pocketed or returned to full health, and there's no point in running it without the conch
The community is working hard for the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTAsC3gtPVU
So I know with the whole Catbot thing that the bots got vac'd (I think) along with the creator's account, but now it looks like there's a new set of bots called Maxbots? :what:

I was specifically explaining that loadout and that situation I run into pretty often in pubs, which is often being out of ammo in the middle of a fight and having to desperately reload. Personally I haven't found the black box to be better against groups, I think it's better for keeping your distance and playing more of a support role. I understand the situation was extremely hypothetically narrow, but I still think the point was made that you run out of ammo more often than you'd like. It happens all the time.
I've been out of the loop for a few weeks, how are people feeling about when this next update is gunna drop? Feels to me like we're close enough to the big 10 year anniversary that they might just be holding it for that.
I've been out of the loop for a few weeks, how are people feeling about when this next update is gunna drop? Feels to me like we're close enough to the big 10 year anniversary that they might just be holding it for that.
October 10th would be way to close to Halloween for them to ship a big update. Invasion was pushing it and that wasn't as big of an update as the Pyro/Jungle update. I could see them maybe giving away a cosmetic if you sign in during the week of the 10th anniversary, or maybe some special limited unusual effect with a double drop rate for unusuals that week but I'm not expecting anythig more than that (and it could very well be nothing). I also don't think they would of given us the balance changes on June 20th only to ship the update almost 4 months later (but we are creeping up on 2 months since the post, which is kinda sad). The biggest TF2 tournament of the year i61 runs from August 25-28, so I don't see an update the week of the 21st unless they're able to put up an old version of the game via the beta system for them to play at i61. If it's not this week I don't see it happening until the 29th at the earliest. Edit: The TF2 team did answer most of the questions from Tyler at Valve News Network, which is something they said they would do before shipping the update. They also told Tyler in an email that they're finishing up the update and that was on August 2nd.
Oct 10 is close to Halloween, but when did TF2's beta start? I got my service medal on September 18th!
A fucking year. What in Athiesmos glorious name is holding the potted plant back from even releasing the occasional tweak to see how the community(ies) react to it? Sure plan an update with weapons, maps and all other kinds of assorted crap but its been over a year since the horrible implementation of casual and competitive and not a single tweak has been made. A team of 15-ish people and none of them can muster up anything good in a 3 month period? This is either the result of company politics, mediocrity, or a blend of both but either way its fucking stupid.

For some reason they don't care about other succesful gaming companies like they are the only ones who can do anything good. Tho this have been said many times and everybody had already had the same thought on mind.
Is it possible that we might have to scrap our hopes for a "teaser" blog post ? They might just realease it on the day with a blogpost and an updatepage, like they did with Smissmas and yes I know Smissmas wasnt a "real" major update.
