I honestly want everyone to stop talking about the update before it actually hits or anything important happens.

I dont know in other countries, but here in spain we say "the less you think about it, the faster it will happen"
By this rule you guys delayed it back to summer 2018

TF2 General Chat and Update Speculation Station - One of Several Edition
I've been out of the loop for a few weeks, how are people feeling about when this next update is gunna drop?
Feels to me like we're close enough to the big 10 year anniversary that they might just be holding it for that.
I did a roundup of some dates here.
I don't think it'll be an anniversary update. That's just dumb. As Comodore said, if ain't this week I can't see it earlier than the 29th - I'm holding some love out for this week.
Here is some fun data:
It has been 13 Days since VNN released the email video, and thus 13~ days since Driller said "We are actively trying to ship and finish the Update"
It has been 56 Days since the TF Team released the balancing blog post.
It has been 61 Days since the TF Team told Mappers to get their stuff on the workshop asap.
It has been 13 Days since the last patch.
And, of course, it has been exactly 1 Year, since the Pyro won the War.
EDIT: Here is an interesting one. From this day - it has been 5 years since MvM. This means that if we don't get anything today/this week, this will be the latest "Mid-year" Update.
At this point i think it would be only right to write them and ask what is it they are struggling with and how could we help them
I don't think it'll be an anniversary update. That's just dumb.
Why is it dumb?
Is there any reason beyond "It's close to Halloween"?? I wouldn't let that stop me if a game I was involved with was having a 10 year anniversary.
Oct 10 is close to Halloween, but when did TF2's beta start? I got my service medal on September 18th!
Looks like it was September 17th, though with you being in the UK you may of actually played it on the first day. I first played in December of 2007 so sadly I missed out on the Primeval Warrior badge, I just have a lousy Grizzled Veteran badge.

I wouldn't call it dumb, but just unlikely that Valve would hold the update either for the beta anniversary or release date anniversary just to make it part of a celebration, Valve just doesn't seem to care about anniversaries that much.

Because the community is going insane and we are at the longest drought ever. If the Update is finished, release it, don't wait another 2 months for an anniversary that's usually not even celebrated.
Plus, as others have said, way too close to both smissmas and halloween.
At this point i think it would be only right to write them and ask what is it they are struggling with and how could we help them
In all honesty I'm 96% sure that the Update was supposed to drop way earlier due to the mapping blog post being now more than two months ago.
Today is the most perfect day it could be released. It's been SO LONG. If it doesn't come out today or this week I don't know what I'll do
Even if they did an anniversary update, it'll probably just be hats and weapon skins again.
Even if they did an anniversary update, it'll probably just be hats and weapon skins again.
valve... please... hats... please... weapons skins... ANYTHING...

Probably continue to bitch about it on a message board like the rest of us ;)
Honestly I doubt it will be today, I can't see this update only being a one day update with how large it is. I'm still holding out hope for a multi-day update featuring one weapon per day.
Dave Riller implied the pyro would get one weapon per slot. If that's still the case and he gets 3 weapons you could have a 3 day update with one weapon per day, then on one of those days show off the Valve map/campaign maps/new campaign pass system, the next day show off the comp mode changes and the final day include the SFM short along with the crates/new cosmetics and new unusual effects along with the patch notes/rebalances.

I feel like it would be a better idea to release the SFM on day one. The reason is a lot of people who used to play TF2 or don't at all still watch the SFMs because of their incredibly high quality. Releasing the SFM on day one would create update hype and get more people interested.

Well the SFM could be released any day that was really just an example of how I think Valve could do a multi-day update with this update.

I'm pretty sure he just means today would be perfect for a Blog Post. I don't expect the Update by any means. But a Blog Post day 1 one would be perfect...

you just love being proven wrong constantly, don't you?
one shitpost a day keeps the update away.
Maybe this is just me, but after visiting the TF website was anyone only shown the original MvM blog post?

I can't see them doing one-weapon-per-day since they haven't done it in 7 years (The Engineer Update).
In addition, I don't expect it to be a 3-day Update. Looking just at the content important Updates:
-Meet your Match: Matchmaking, 3 new Maps, Pass Time out of Beta, PyroVsHeavy, New Cosmetics, Class and Weapon Changes. 2 Day Update.
-Tough Break: New Campaign, 4 new Maps, a LOT of new Cosmetics, Class and Weapon Changes, also it's Smismass 2015. 1 Day Update.
-Gun Mettle: Introduces Campaigns and Weapon Skins, 4 new Maps, New Cosmetics, New Cosmetic Type (WeaponSkins), Class and Weapon Changes. 2 Day Update.
-Smismass 2015: Introduced MannPower in Beta, 3 new Weapons, New Cosmetics, Class and Weapon Changes. 1 Day Update and it's just a blog post.
-Love and War: 5 new Weapons, New Cosmetics, Class and Weapon Changes. 2 Day Update.
-Two Cities: 2 new MvM Maps, 1 new Map, Class and Weapon MvM Changes, Weapon Effects are introduced. 2 Day Update.
-Mecha Update: 1 new MvM Map, introduces Mecha Engineers in MvM, 3 new Weapons, New Cosmetics, also it's Smismass 2012. 1 Day Update.
-MannVsMachine: Introduces MvM, New Cosmetics. 3 Day Update.
We haven't gotten a 3 Day Update in FIVE years and it was the biggest* Update the game has ever seen. I'm not saying we won't be getting 3Day but we have no reason to expect it to be either.
Useless tidbit of the post: The longest Update we've gotten is the SniperVsSpy Update being NINE days long! It introduced PayloadRacing with Pipeline, added Sawmill and Nucleus as Arena maps, PL_Hoodoo, 3 new Sniper (Huntsman, Jaratee, Razorback) and 3 new Spy (Ambassador, Cloack'n'Dagger, Deadringer) Weapons, was accompanied by a Comic and Meet the Spy and it introduced the first 9 Hats in the game.
*Debatable, title could also be claimed by the Mann-Conomy Update (16 Weapons, Store, Trading, Paints, Unusuals, new Cosmetics) or the Uber Update (22 Weapons, Game is F2P, PL_Barnblitz, new Cosmetics).
one shitpost a day keeps the update away.
The update's gotta be centuries away then.
It seems my favourite community server could close down due to lack of funds. My paycheck doesn't come until next month and I fear the server will die before I can do anything to at least help it survive another month.
this might be a bit of a lengthy read, I was thinking about Source 2, how likely TF2 could be ported to it, and what it could change.
I'm not an expert in any of this so please correct anything I get wrong.
TF2 runs on a modified version of the Source engine, which is a heavily modified GoldSrc, which is a heavily modified Quake engine, all of which came from a time GPUs barely existed, and multi-core CPUs were very rare, in addition to that, TF2's code was already messed up on release because it was on development for 9 years, add to that almost 10 years of active work.
TF2 on release didn't even have multi core support, it was added later on.
and now about Source 2, we have no idea what the engine is like, is it a new engine on the level of modern engines now adays like unreal?, was it built from the ground up with DX12, Vulkan and multi core support in mind or is it again a modified Source engine?
games in General don't take advantage of multiple cores all that well, this improved over time but still no where near the level rendering or other heavy tasks do, TF2 and other source games are on the worse side of this, using an extra cores for sound and such, barely using last 2 cores, and taking no advantage of anything beyond 4 cores.
even if Source 2 is a good modern engine, just porting TF2 to it wouldn't help that much, what TF2 really needs is to be remade using a new engine, so the code wouldn't be nightmare to deal with and take advantage o modern tech for performance.
we haven't really seen Source 2 yet, yes Dota 2 runs on it but a top down game really shows us nothing of what it's capable of, an SDK has not been released yet, no other game was ported to it, this either shows the engine isn't ready yet, or that they're holding it because they have a great game to release that is using it.
now to the porting part, as I said before, don't expect anything of Source 2 on TF2 before they port CSGO first, how will the process go?
for CSGO, they need to port every model and every map, all skins and all mechanics.
mechanics like weapon inaccuracy (jump, running, standing and crouching), how each weapon works (not a huge number of weapons), GOTV, Overwatch and code for different gamemodes, there's probably more stuff that I missed
and they haven't done that yet, after this, the physics will probably change, players will probably have to relearn boosts and grenades, not a really big problem as this is the case every time a map gets remade, and not a hard task.
now compare that to TF2, they need to port every model and every skin (much more models), and every maps (also more maps), code for how each weapon works (more weapons, much more complex stats), code for gamemodes, code for mvm, how bots behave there and much more
in addition to all mechanics the game has, all the different condition a player can be in, all halloween gimmicks.
even the base game had a ton of stuff added in to the source engine, while it's really not as complex to recreate counter strike
not to mention that it would change the physics, this isn't as simple as relearning grenades, they would have to be really careful to keep the current physics, a very few changes to blast jumping wouldn't be all that bad (if c-tapping for example had to killed, it wouldn't be such a big problem), but if you have to relearn blast jumping all over, that would be pretty terrible
is it worth the effort and the absurd time it would take?, until we know what the new engine is like, we don't know, simply porting the game over would help but not a whole lot, if it's a really modern engine, I would definitely support getting a TF2 : reborn no mater how long it takes (it's almost 2 years since the last proper update we had, if you want to count MyM, that's still over a year which is quite some time).
but if it's as rumors go, modified Source engine with better tools for devs to work on, modern UI and some features added in like Vulkan support, I don't know if it would be worth the effort.

Take out another mortgage.
Happy Birthday MvM Update, you're 5 years old today.
I have a question: Is this normal ? I feel like its way too bright especially the walls and floors.

So ? is this normal ? and if not is there a way/command to fix it ?
you just love being proven wrong constantly, don't you?
You really think I'm sitting infront of my monitor pressing F5 every night? I stopped expecting things a long time ago, this is primarily just wishful thinking, if this annoys you this much then I'm sorry, but I prefer that over the "everything is dead :(" attitude, alongside of being condescending to anyone that doesn't share such a view.
The people that still, in all their honest power, without any glimpse of doubt say "Tonight is the night" are probably dead by now. That might've worked a few years ago but this year is an outliner.
As Blackavar said, today would be perfect, but I won't be expecting anything.

I have something similar. Where it keeps flickering to the lighting you're showing and back to darker lighting. and I have no idea what's causing it.

Yet despite all this, I still can't bring myself to attempt to get a Carbando botkiller.

That eurogamer article is wrong. I got TF2 as soon as beta was available. Hire Date: Tuesday, September 18, 2007 (10:29:20) GMT. I've only met one guy who has earlier date than i do. I'm also +2 GMT for YM.
Also, i dont think they are holding on for the anniversary date but it might be the beta release date. I'm still betting next week at the earliest.
Interesting fact: if you idle and save up weapons all year round, you get just enough metal to buy ONE (1) Tour Of Duty Ticket
I wish there was a way to play usual missions without ticket, just to help people with tickets get their items and train in real environment.
