That is something TF2 needs desperately. I don't like bringing Overwatch into discussion but TF2 Devs could really learn something from Blizz when it comes to communication.
TF2 devs could in general. They've always been historically awful at it.
I swear, if Valve is actually withholding the update because of i61....
If it doesn't come out this week then what will happen to Halloween contracts... because unless this new contract system is different from the old one they will conflict and that could be very problematic.

However, the way contract are done could be the same which would be problematic
I swear, if Valve is actually withholding the update because of i61....
During a past tournament Valve was able to put out a previous version of TF2 using the beta release however that wasn't a major update, I have no idea if it would be possible for Valve to put out a beta release of an old version while the players have new items that don't exist in that version.

Side note: its something internally called "choose your own adventure", but we'll likely see specific contracts replaced with something akin to how CSGO's modern operation journals work, with different difficulty paths leading to different amounts of reward. Which, is a lot of work, and would explain why the update has taken over 400 days.
Very interesting. Hopefully it will be worth the wait and not broken upon release.
I think we will likely get it broken in the first 2 days of the update same with Gunmettel and Halloween 2016,I hope not.
My only wish is for no Delfy tier exploits on release. But that's a lot to ask seeing how easy it is to break something by adding something new. I only wish for that because I don't want every casual match to be full of 4 - 6 edgey kids believing they're the coolest for copying "Daddy Delfy" Wonder if his fanbase still believes he is the sole reason exploits get fixed.
I have no doubt that at least one of the new pyro weapons will have some wild gamebreaking bug. It'll be the kind that makes it way op too, like the red tape recorder giving sentries a shit ton of health.
I feel that a great way to combat the issue of weapon rebalances being implemented poorly would be to reintroduce the TF2 Beta. Once reintroduced, they would need to advertise it as much as possible so that a good amount of people can use it to test possible weapon / gameplay changes and use (hopefully) the player's feedback as effective as it can be

Same as with those who think Delfy finds them.
Well, there passes this week. There is still a chance of it dropping today but a one-day update seems unlikely to me. Unless the TF Team is willing to release a gigantic gamechanging update(assuming it releases on thursday as always) 1 day before the largest TF2 comp event, we ain't seeing anything. Of course it isn't impossible, they could just use an old version of the game, however it has been proven in the past that they care about comp and don't want to potentially do something gamebreaking while its going on. Insomnia starts next friday and ends the then following monday. The 28th is thus the earliest we might see it, which does make me curious now how they'll deal with halloween. If we get it by then :v:

It doesn't require a separate client and shares the items from the base game, so it's not an unreasonable request for people to simply pick a different server while retaining all of their items and not needing to double the disk space that the game takes up. Of course this doesn't work for huge changes that happen at an engine level, but it can be a good testbed for balance-related alterations and experiments.
Every time I think I've run out of ways for Valve to disappoint me, they manage to innovate again. It's actually kind of impressive.

I doubt it will do anything or I'll get a response but who knows, maybe if enough people do the same thing something will change with Valve.

They only admitted MyM was a mistake because of abysmal comp pass sales.

My email. I don't really except a response but hopefully he at least reads it. It did feel good to write it.
Mr Newell, I want to thank you for taking the time to read this email and I'll try to keep it as short as possible since I'm sure you're very busy. I'm a big fan of Team Fortress 2, I've been playing since December 2007 and have over 2,200 hours played - by far my most played and my favorite game of all time. I'm very happy you're still supporting the game after all these years, but I'm starting to feel Valve's business model is failing TF2. I know that TF2 isn't as popular as CSGO or DOTA2, but it still has millions of players every month and I'm sure you make many millions of dollars on the game every year. For the past few years excluding community updates TF2 has gotten 3 big updates with new content every year, the Summer update, the Halloween update and the Christmas update. For the past 2 years we haven't gotten a new Halloween map from Valve, just community made maps. For Christmas 2016 we didn't get any new gameplay content. We've now in the middle of August, later than any summer update TF2 has ever gotten, with fewer patches than TF2 has ever gotten in a single year to this point and still no sign of the major Pyro/Jungle update that Dave Riller has talked about. I have no doubt the TF2 team is hard working and passionate about the game; every time a prominent member of the TF2 community has gotten a chance to visit the team they've always said that and I have no reason to doubt it. We've been told that around 16 people work on the game and around 5 or 6 of them are programmers but the last year is showing that it's not enough. A game as a service can't run on one really big content update a year. I know Valve doesn't assign people to specific projects but I do strongly feel like something needs to be done, be it hiring more employees when you move into the new office later thsi year or have an outside developer help out with the game like what happened with Pass Time. I don't expect a reply, but I really hope you think about what I said and consider making some changes because Valve really is failing the TF2 community and that's not something I want to see continue. I want to thank you again for spending the time to read this email. Thanks Doug "CommodoreKong" http://steamcommunity.com/id/CommodoreKong
Given that it's a pyro update, I hope they don't make any changes to the detonator's blast jumping...I'm finally making a pyro det jump map after sitting on the idea for a couple years, and it'd kinda suck having to redo every individual jump to suit any changes. On a more general level, I love the detonator in its current state - not terribly powerful in terms of damage, but great for mobility and harassing enemies. I know Valve are likely to be making changes to a lot of pyro weapons, but I don't think the weapon needs touching in its current state. Wouldn't hurt to have a little buff though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
There goes this month.
Cant wait for the first year without a Summer update

Sounds like we stop the hype train and refuel, ready for the first week of September.
They're organization model is failing just about everything. "Do what you want to do" sounds amazing on paper, but seems to hurt every Valve project.
I think the model doesn't punish slacking off on an already started project and that's why it takes time to finish anything (like hl3 cough cough). There needs to be something more to drive people towards the goal after the initial start, and Valve doesn't capitalize on that, because freedom. I know by experience, I always get motivated to start on a fresh idea, cause it's new and exciting at the start, but the more I work on it, the more it becomes a drag, and I have my older projects sitting on the hard-drive still waiting to be completed. It's a dilemma which I believe Valve has too.
Head's up, catbots are back on [DEL]ctf[/DEL]koth_harvest, i don't know about other maps, but i've just encountered them. they're called "ex cat-bot [number]", and they spam the usual discord link, and some youtube video, as well as normal messages. valve pls fix
