I wasn't sure about this thing at first, but now it's looking pretty cool!
I'd suggest testing it in engine as soon as possible, to check it with ingame lighting, and maybe adding extremely subtle scratches to the metal(?) top.
Also, jigglebone the cloth? That'd probably look best, otherwise it'll just be very stationary in motion, but that's not totally out-of-the-oridinary for TF2, just that it would look better with jiggles.
Its a little bit very illegal.
If they find out you're making money for it you'd probably lose the income and be banned from the workshop.
Maybe idk.
I'm going to assume that this is the reason my Tomb Raider items didn't make the cut...
I might have to save up for a pro lisence then. I hate the fact that maya is subscription-based now...Maybe I should try learning Blender or something...
Yep just pick up, blender it's a very easy transition. You can even change the layout to mimic Maya.
Decided to try the eyes with a Red Color, instead of the orange.
What do you guys think? Does the Red suit the eyes better or do you think the orange should still be used? Feel free to comment suggestions and such. They are always welcome!

I was thinking, and it would be really cool if you used textures to make your model look like a real-life frog from the Amazon Rainforest. It would make your frog much more distinctive and memorable, as well as more "Mayann"-themed. Like, the Mayann Steam Workshop submission of the banana lunchbox item for the Heavy, while cool, is really generic. If it were something like a piñuela, or even something as silly as a burrito, I think it would've been cooler and more on-theme.
I would suggest using - as basis for your frog's textures - the strawberry poison dart frog for RED and the blue poison dart frog for BLU. Both dwell in the Amazon Rainforest (which isn't technically where the ancient Mayans dwelled, but will apparently be the setting of the ancient Mayann temple in Winglet's video), it would be pretty funny to have the mercs carrying around frogs on their shoulders that they didn't realize were poisonous, and you could probably get away with using a simple palette swap between the two frogs for RED and BLU.

Blue Poison Dart Frog:

While the strawberry poison dart frog technically usually has blue or dark legs, and you could do that if you wanted, you could also totally get away with ignoring that and just using a red palette swap on the blue frog's texture to save yourself some work.
poison dart frog was what i was originally going to make before he posted his, but for the record:

It literally has a preset called Maya.

And, you've sold me on it. Just downloaded Blender on Steam, will try it out later and we'll see if I can get to work on those Lords of Night items I mentioned.

As far as tutorials go I would recommend watching Blender Cookie's tutorials.
So i asked robsan85 to work on one of his concepts, which was that one:

Looks great, however the blade's texture seems very detailed, maybe simplify it a bit.
I'm going to assume that this is the reason my Tomb Raider items didn't make the cut...
I really don't think that is the case at all. They have no actual way of knowing what program you used to model them. I'm pretty sure it's just because they were other items they liked more.

I don't think that its necessarily impossible for valve to find out the program used to create an item, as it states in autodesk's student licence that the student version of maya exports models with a watermark. Wether or not this is the case with SMDs and DMXs I don't know, but it is possible.

I feel like the colours on the flaps should be more vibrant (eg, somewhere around Team Spirit), or it needs a badge or pin or something on the front of the hat for a splash of colour.
It is otherwise quite nice indeed.

I actually got the Red Eyed Tree Frog idea from my interest towards the little buggers, as I used to own one myself. And since the Mayann Update allows jungle-themed items, I thought this would be a good time to chime in.

Not to be too realistic, but the Poison Dart frog is actually quite dangerous. How would you like it if a Medic had one on it's shoulder and then suddenly died? It just doesn't seem right to make something that is really poisonous as a cosmetic, even with TF2 standereds.
they're only poisonous if they eat some certain foods. you can keep them as harmless pets, but you probably don't need to worry about this kind of thing for tf2 when the degreaser uses fire extinguisher as fuel.

Ah, ok.
Why not a neutral tree frog style and a team coloured poison frog style?
If you do the actual texturing in greyscale then just paint on colours and patterns on a separate layer its like 0 effort.

The TF2 standards where bloody hatchet hats, giant brain maggots, and rabies raccoons are a thing and the mercs are completely unphased by them?

Right, gotta remember that TF2 logic... Apologies.
The Aztecs and Maya, along with other Natives of Mesoamerica, considered the owl a symbol of death and destruction. In fact, the Aztec god of death, Mictlantecuhtli, was often depicted with owls. There is an old saying in Mexico that is still in use: Cuando el tecolote canta, el indio muere ("When the owl cries/sings, the Indian dies"). The Popol Vuh, a Mayan religious text, describes owls as messengers of Xibalba (the Mayan "Place of Fright").
Just an fyi if people are stuck for coming up with item ideas. Owls are apparently scary shit.
Has anyone considered a PASS time map with a mesoamerican ballgame theme?

A few people on tf2maps are working on some versions I think.
[editline]23rd April 2016[/editline]
As for my map, I DID make a pre-alpha version but It's too messy so I'll scrap it and start over with the important things first (the Boulder run, general logic stuff).
