It's a good model, dude. But, do you have some sort of reference for us? Unless there's something that ties it to a Mayan origin, it's just a fantasy-looking sword.
Also, what class would use it? Questions like these help us understand everything about the item.

As you can see in Sagat, the headband doesn't get to reach the uncovered eye. IN your model, it kinda does. It should have a bigger angle up so it doesn't bother the other eye.
I kinda liked the idea of it being a bit more original. It just looks more unique in the concept.

Should be a way to get around that. And even if you model part of the head and align the normals, you can get it within the poly limits. It's a great idea but right now the headband looks too uneven imho.

I also think this would benefit sticking to the original concept looking at it now. I appreciate what you modeled here but maybe work on this version as your own project.
Since the OP says a Mayan/Jungle theme, I thought this might be a 'jungle-y' cosmetic.

A gorilla head for Heavy kind of like the Graylien that Spy got for the ayy lmao update. Adds gorilla teeth and a hairy head. My apologies for the terrible art. Also, I didn't touch the nose because I wouldn't know how to attack it.
