Just because you're honest, doesn't mean you're not rude at the same time.

This is why White Lies were created. Sometimes the truth does more damage than good/can be pretty rude.

Something smells phishy here
So this guy adds me and asks to trade his unusual for mine. I looked him up on outpost, and surprise! he's banned. I then go to steamrep to see why he was banned, and saw that he had a bunch of pending reports for attempted scams. I then proceeded to ask him why this was the case:
12:02 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: that one giuy already scammed my friend
12:02 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: my friend lives in my neighborhood
12:02 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: and he toled me to scam him back
12:03 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: he made me
12:03 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: and then he said if i dont scam him back then he will punch me in the head
12:03 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: and i knew that he will and i was afraid
12:03 PM - ~̺͠ Rαwʀツϟ B-DAY IN 4 DAYS!: so i had to scam him to make my cousin happy..
traders with the "ϟ" in the name are pretty much always idiots
I didn't take screencap nor the guy was an asshole, but everything he wrote was in caps so I had that feeling that he's screaming at me through the whole trade.

why not both
(This story was several months old so I don't remember exactly everything)
I remember I had a trade with someone so persistent. Let's call him Bobby Bobberson the McBobbin
He trades me and asks me if he can buy my Cockfighter, which at the time wasn't tradeable. I was going to type it's not tradeable unless you can give me gift wrap, but he already starts to offer. I ignore it and start typing anyway. By the time I sent my message his item consisted of crates and demo items, especially Halloween ones. He says "so want to trade?" and I reply with "but these items wouldn't add up to the Cockfighter" (and to be honest the Cockfighter had no real price, but the offer was just ridiculous). He goes ahead and adds a few more weapons and crates and then says "now?". Of course I say no and he starts to complain and whine, but then says "come on I'll be your best friend". That was the last straw.
I type "get a better offer and stop being annoying". I get another trade request, but I didn't notice it was Bobby. With out even saying anything he says "please give me the Cockfighter i will give you my backpack" (by the speculations of what he was offering before, I figured his backpack wasn't even close to expensive). I say one more time "It's not tradeable!". And apparently just because he figured out it was untradeable, he decides to say "fuck you" and cancel trade.
When is it when people know how to install a game, yet they don't know how to read. I mean I'd be sorry if the person is illiterate, but seriously. Jeez.
Who are these people who are so mentally/physically incapable they can't communicate using a fucking keyboard.

People like that always scary me. That's why I never accept trade invitation and I force someone to tell me what he want from me. If he don't want to tell me, His problem.
Yep. It's worse when it's totally random.
This guy just added me: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198050610621
I don't have any trades open anywhere and my profile is set to friends only. I know it was TF2 trade related as his TF2 hours are high and he has a few valuable items. I used to get these random adds all the fucking time so I can spot them a mile away.
I didn't screen cap the convo but basically I said Hi and asked why did he add me... no response. I wait a minute and asked again, no response. I tell him he has 10 seconds to explain himself or I'm blocking and deleting, no response.
Blocked and deleted.
How do these fuckers find me? I have no trades, I have friends only profile, no friends or groups in common ... how? There's gotta be a scammer/shark database around right? To sniff out peoples items? Doesn't bp.tf have this feature for premium users or someshit? But my profile and therefore inventory is friends only.
I really wanna know how these people are finding me. It's worse that this knob added me and said nothing the entire time, I added him back right away so there's no reason he would've went AFK in the 1 second it took to add back.
Welp, back to not accepting ANY friend requests what so ever unless I remember them from a game again.

I don't even accept friend requests in General. I'm a bit skeeved out when people I've met once on a sever friend me and then I never talk to them again.
Although when I was a kid I accepted a friend request from a little girl who had played on some HL2DM servers with me, and months after I stopped playing HL2DM, she sent me just the most vague request to trade. Like just " Hey do you have any items you want to trade?" No specifics, like she just wanted to move items around. I genuinely have no idea where she is now, I just remember unfriending her and leaving it at that.

I never do that either. The only TF2ers on my list are basically traders I met literally years ago that I keep around as I can still do some trades every now and again with them, everyone else is a L4D2er.
I basically never add anyone from TF2, when I said unless I remember them from a game, I guess I should've said from L4D2 as it's a different "culture" there. People add you even after one game because probably you're a good team mate to have around rather than because they like your hats/want advice/want to trade etc...

Said nothing for a solid 20 minutes then cancels the trade

I can understand people paying a lot for items like painted cow manglers, painted pencil pushers, and the like, but why would someone pay more than a normal bill's just because it doesn't show what paint color the hat is?

I'll give you 20 buds if you trade me in 2 sec-ohp too slow.
*Snip too many of these phising links posts*
What causes all these phishing bots anyway? Everytime I go to check on their profiles, and the one occasion they aren't marked private, they have played a single game for three hours-ish. Football Manager 2013, F.E.A.R. 3 or Civ 5 seem to be the most common ones. I'm confused as of how these accounts get hijacked.

I'd say phishers are buying old accounts. I don't ahve any other explanation for it, because as a phisher I wouldn't wait 7 years (some of these accounts are that old) to phish :v . They are probably doing this to make these accounts look trusted. And I believe it pays for itself.

Are we talking about how they get a hold of these accounts?
If so, I thought it was because people fell for the links, logged into the fake website, got keylogged or what ever and the phishers gain control over those accounts.

Pretty much.
Doesn't help a lot of people create dummy accounts just to try clicking the links.

Stilll confused as of why Civ5 players would want to add anyone for trading.

The only reason I can see is to buy the DLC with keys if they need them that badly and can't wait for another sale.
