Well this VAC wave hit 40k. Did it effect TF2 at all?
From what I hear it was exclusively about a hack in CS:GO
Well this Ace guy just made a video about it and he claims that TF2 hacks have started getting detected in the last hour or so.

If that was the case, this guy would be banned by now. Or at least I'd hope. ... A lot of these people would be banned too.
I certainly would love a fix to casual and comp mode, but as it is... Competitive Mode is completely unplayable with people using cheats VAC can't detect. You're forced to stay in the server until they finally decide to cap unless you want to get punished for leaving early. Casual mode lets you leave, but the server is forfeited to a stack of hackers for an hour or two.

There was a big cheat detected that affected both TF2 and CSGO starting with the letter A and ending E. Not sure if i can say it out loud here so there you go. There's been many complaints of TF2 bans also at the VAC section of Steamcommunity forums, here's one example of a guy who propably thought VAC servers where "blocked" by the cheat. What comes down to the upcoming TF2 update, my bets have gone to august already.
Oh well, still nice to see I guess...

So here's the thing about cheating.
Most of the TF2-usable cheats that aren't private have (probably) been flagged at some point, just due to the sheer numbers of throwaway cheating accounts using the same base cheats over and over. I've seen countless versions of the same cheat program in the demos I've reviewed, cheat users aren't as smart as they think.
The problem is that cheat developers actually are, and keep changing the edges of the programming, rebranding it as a new hack after every banwave and packing different ad/spyware with the downloads so they can keep being funded. And to ban people as soon as they're detected simply tells the cybercriminals what they're doing wrong.
In lieu of valve's supposed machine learning approach, the simple way to deal with these problems is to rework vote kicking. Stronger user input tools will make it easier to kick often-reported and throwaway accounts, and allow users to target enemy players with votes so long as both teams reach a majority. These things help in the now and present, where VAC doesn't.

Dont say that! If you say August, Valve will respond "September".

Do you also believe the hack overlords are monitoring this thread?
worth noting that this ban wave can not be linked to any update coming soon and all that as Ace's video suggests, Valve has a separate VAC team that works on those stuff, the TF team most likely didn't take much part into this (waves of game bans as a result of too many reports on an account, maybe, but VAC waves no)
also, the cheat ICS mentioned is known as as the fastest way to get yourself banned, it does have a huge user base, but I'd give them more credit for banning the less known cheats, this isn't like a wave of lmaobox being detected, the list of detected cheats in this wave is huge
As others have said, a bunch of lesser known TF2 cheats were detected in this wave. A number of them were free. At least one (X22) is the base for a new cheat that is growing in popularity and currently still undetected (or at least not included in this wave.) I am hopeful that it and several other even more popular cheats will be detected soon.
I'm sure we'll see new information or even the Update itself pop up in the next few weeks since I continue to believe August is unrealistic, and am happy to see most feel the same.
I'm still wondering how exactly non-stock skins are supposed to work.
I'm still confident the update, or at least some substantial information, will come within the month. But that said, Christ, this is really reminding me how much I fucking despise Valve's dumbass mindset as a developer. Everything has to be a monumental world-changing event incomprehensible by the minds of mere mortals. Every release must be a grand magnum opus that would bring even the hardest souls to weep tears of joy. You can't just, say, tweak some numbers or add a map or two every month or so; you've just gotta reinvent the wheel every single time.
It's like scope creep on a company-wide scale, and it's fucking retarded.
It is of simple comrade, small frequent tweaks make the community happy. But really, who gives a shit about the community? The community is made up of two people.
- Joe.alonzo.2004
- People who have been playing the game for years
The first category doesn't give a shit, and the second category is absolutely irrelevant. They've been playing the game for a long time and keep playing it, so what incentive there is to, you know, keep them around? If they had really wanted to leave they would have left a long time ago, they're basically chaining themselves.
Big boy updates, instead, make everybody happy. Joe.alonzo is happy, long time players are happy. And even if long time players are unhappy, who gives a shit? They didn't care enough to leave during the update drought, they surely are not going to leave now that they got something. They'll become acid and resentful again in a couple weeks, hopefully after they've unlocked all their crates and got a few useless stranges and civilian skins.
But most importantly, large updates bring back players who left and new players who never played the game before.
Generally speaking, TF2 has shown that it can last until the end of time with no cooperation of the developers purely on reputation and being accessible. There is no reason to make it... even more self-sufficient by just making it better casually. It's financially smarter to just make big bumps of content so that it generates publicity which generates interest among people who didn't care BEFORE
which in turns generates more money.

Non skins ?
Non skins ?
I think they meant non-stock weapon skins
I hope the update will allow us to mute players directly from the scoreboard. Dreamin'
I hope the update will allow us to mute players directly from the scoreboard. Dreamin'
Right click them.
I just want something. Been deprived of words and content for too long.
I hope the update will allow us to mute players directly from the scoreboard. Dreamin'
you can already do that.
If you have the cursor enabled while looking at the scoreboard, you can right-click and mute players.
you can already do that.

CSGOs system is much better you first have to right click to enable the cursor, in tf2 right now when you quickly want to check your stats it messes up your aim.
They actually implemented it the same way as csgo, just forgot to add a ui option for enabling it. "tf_scoreboard_mouse_mode 2" will make it work like that. First click to enable the mouse, second click to select a player. Sometimes it does not work the first time you press tab after connecting to a server, but after that it's fine.

Oh thank you ^^ I didnt even know about this
is anyone against decorated weapons like the kritzkrieg and gunslinger? the strangifier to decorated weapons would mean you can get cheap strange versions of those weapons. Are people against that? because a few people i know who own a strange kritz and gunslinger do not want thier default variants to go down in price, so idk if it's something the community wants atm.

not unless they make the skins too similar to their stock version.

people primarily dont want skins for non-stock weapons out of fear that they might become unrecognizable, hindering gameplay.
people primarily dont want skins for non-stock weapons out of fear that they might become unrecognizable, hindering gameplay.
Thats my main concern too, but i think we get used to see flashy weapons after a while.
It really depends on the weapon, you're always going to be able to tell that a Sniper is using the Huntsman even if it has a different skin, but a Pyro using a Scorch Shot skin would be more ambiguous at a glance.
tf_scoreboard_mouse_mode 2 is much better, however I'd love if I didn't have to click someone name 10 times with either no response at all or somehow clicking on one's name and then actually having it select a different person
there are so many little things that would go a long way in this game, I really hope for changes to the main menu and queue, would be great to have queue privacy options like CSGO, and change Steam so it will let you join someone's queue by clicking join game instead of it showing the last server the person was on
also, steam datagrams, I have no idea why is it being used this way, the game should ping the servers right when you click start searching, not all the time, because now ping values won't be accurate till they're measured again while queued, and when you lose connections it takes forever for the game to reconnect to all the clusters
also I'm not sure about this one, but are any of the nodes being used as proxy like in CSGO?, that's the main thing steam datagrams are supposed to provide
also on many occasions if you lose connection to a server, you just can't rejoin, you don't receive any response from the server and your game keeps retrying, then asks you to rejoin again, worse is that when you queue again the game may match you into the same server, or another server with the same ID and you time out again, because the game still doesn't actually ping the servers before connecting
those issues must be fixed soon, especially if they're trying to make comp mode any less of a joke, having issues like that with abandon penalties is just terrible

I know this isnt probably how it will happen but what if they meant reskins like the Invasion ones for the Machina, Wrangler, or Pistol

They mean decorated much like the gun mettle weapons, we don't know for sure if there'll be more collections. I assume one collection is jungle themed, not sure if there will be others.
