The idea that "anybody who can make good content can make an update" is delusional. Iron gauntlet had enough good content to fill a large update but despite that it never went anywhere for a multitude of reasons, including the lead contributors not being as "credible" as people with existing valve connections, the update not having enough "PR" in terms of SFM or update page, as well as valve not having much interest in mvm in general these days. Frontline conversely has plenty of good content and plenty of credible contributors, but still hasn't been acknowledged simply because valve is more busy with jungle. So to say "just make a good community update :)" is plain wrong.
I'll never understand why Valve isn't doing a yearly MVM update in March/April with all the maps and missions available. It would be so little effort on their part to bring in a lot of revenue. Have one of the artists make a new set of Australiums (and maybe some silver weapons) and bot killers. Grab 3 maps and pay for them by selling event Tour of Duty tickets that can give exclusive unusual effects for the weapons and cosmetics. Maybe grab some robot themed cosmetics for MVM rewards as well as a new crate for people who don't play MVM.
Given the tricky nature of implementing maps I would assume it's just out of their comfort zone figuring out how to distrubute payments for community made missions, whether it be a lump sum or be a percentage of tickets spent on the tour or there be a stamp type system implemented there as well. Not that I think that's the leading reason we don't see it, but it's a fair guess.

To me, launching update somewhere around end of feb-march makes sense, because there is a damn long time before the next summer one. It makes more sense to keep players playing and offer them something new over time instead of waiting in agony for the next. But valve never does what is logical. They do what they want.

Valve probably does like 5 playtests and calls it good. I mean there's hard stuff like the payload bugs, which take a serious amount of effort to find and fix, but there's really simple stuff like the anti-sniper blocks on Suijin (the ones that block sniping the point and the other team's spawn from the safety of your spawn) that would have been made and fixed if they did more than 2 playtests.
What if there was a skin series exclusive to a set of mvm missions with an unusual chance
What if there was a skin series exclusive to a set of mvm missions with an unusual chance
The problem is less that we need incentives to play mvm and more that we need actual new mvm missions.
The problem is less that we need incentives to play mvm and more that we need actual new mvm missions.
¿Porque no los dos?
The problem is less that we need incentives to play mvm and more that we need actual new mvm missions.
And I'd assume most the community would just think it were some sort of Pay 2 Win trick.
Honestly from the past few days of playing with Hell-Met and his crew on custom wave missions he and fellow MvM map makers have made, it's disappointing to see the lack of interest in Valve to add or even implement such maps. I mean on one wave I played with them the tank fired stickies ahead of it to prevent players from constantly ripping into it. That's just neat! Hell I still love the idea of a 'Death Wish' dealio kind of mission which can never be predicted as each wave is different and random. And thus the team must cooperate better than ever to complete it. But I get MvM isn't for everyone, but there sure is a dedicated community behind it and it's sad to see the potential for new waves and loot being sat there for years just gathering dust. Even now people still purchase tickets in bulk and it'd be a good way to garner interest back in MvM by adding new missions with new loot, which would only benefit Valve in the long run.
Would still absolutely love to have a set of Chromium weapon drops for mvm
Sorry first time coming here since about 3 years, why was invasion a shitstorm ?
I just had the weirdest dream ever. I was on the TF2 page refreshing until the blog post came out and it also had the Day 1 website of the jungle update. Apparently the first day page showed Pyro near a plastic table which showed a plastic fork,a plastic knife and a spatula, and apparently those items were stock melee reskins.
What if there was a skin series exclusive to a set of mvm missions with an unusual chance
Farm livin' is the life for me ♫

They nerfed the Beggar's Bazooka by making it shoot less dmg, but it can now shoot 4 rockets - also pyro can throw a deployable crab that runs at enemies like that slug from half life. Lots of people getting tf2 dreams as of late, wonder which one of them will turn out to be true.
Sorry first time coming here since about 3 years, why was invasion a shitstorm ?
You paid money for a chance to pay money that barely dropped for the first week on the consumer side, and on the tf2 modding community side there was quite a bit of discord tossed about (not sure the reason why) concerning among other things money. The drop chances for all the space crap was also tiered back when the bad idea that is tiers were new, I do believe this was the second update to feature them. The maps added were either retextures of bad ones or had some kind of niche flaw such as being dominated by sentries so nobuilds were placed everywhere (if your map design has to literally exclude a class in order to be playable you dun' goofed) and byre though good is sadly cursed to arena mode.

The one thing I wanted was to be able to set mission names and difficulty within the .pop file but that's looking like wishful thinking
ayy dude how long lmao
ayy dude how long lmao
how long for the Update?
So... Valve is going to move by the end of the month. Releasing an update this week would result in not being able to release any urgent patch till the week after. I should keep my mind off
So... Valve is going to move by the end of the month. Releasing an update this week would result in not being able to release any urgent patch till the week after. I should keep my mind off
I don't feel like the update is coming anytime soon. In the unlikely event that they launch it today they would have 2 weeks to sort out any problems before the move. I wouldn't get your hopes up though, they are probably still vetting maps.
what are the odds of being today monday?
You guys are way too worried about the move. My little company of less than 100 people that doesn't make anywhere near as much money as Valve moved last year and we had pretty minimal down time. Most of the move itself will likely be done by a moving company not Valve employees.
what are the odds of being today monday?
For all we know it could be today. Or any day this week. We have pretty much nothing that says otherwise other than the VNN email thing. Maybe we'll get that this week. Who knows. [editline]10th July 2017[/editline]
I bet a key that update won't be released today. :toxx:
I wonder what the toxx clause would mean in this situation. Would you have to give a key to every single person here, or a key to some random person, or to the OP of this thread (heheh)? either way, it's a pretty weak toxx

Lot of tf2maps folks making new MvM maps and testing them regularly. They're pretty dedicated to regular tests, and there's quite a bit of variety out there. Fingers crossed that Valve eventually notices all of this effort. There's already a ton of really good MvM maps with well balanced waves. Gadget's mvm_powerplant is excellent imo, and mvm_teien by Freyja has potential to be another awesome one.

I feel an update is possible this week, but I won't be as surprised as last week if it doesn't come, hopefully we hear something soon.
what are the odds of being today monday?
100%, as yesterday was sunday, and tomorrow is tuesday.
