James is an ass and we won't be working with him again. (User was banned for this post ("Off Topic" - Kiwi))
What if valve actually updated their game. Then they'd be like blizzard.
With the "Quality" of overwatch updates I'd stick with Valve.
With the "Quality" of overwatch updates I'd stick with Valve.
what? you don't like limited time events for gamemodes that are actually fun and deserve to be playable for more than a couple weeks? you'd rather not stick with the slog that is overwatch quickplay/"comp" quickplay? you don't like EVENT LOCKED COSMETICS? I just hope the jungle update is all it's chalked up to be, at this point they cant afford to put out something that isnt at least a respectable quality a la tough break [editline]15th July 2017[/editline]
Its pretty neat
he keeps it clean and neato

I'm gonna go play on helltower wearing my favorite hat, the battlebird.
Imagine a bunch of event locked cosmetics and game modes. Unlike OW where you have to wait for the rerun of the event in order to get stuff. (User was banned for this post ("Off Topic" - Kiwi))
To be fair, you can trade and get those cosmetics whenever you feel like it. Felt like sifting through loads of crap just to find a topic that wasn't look box related at specific points. (User was banned for this post ("Off Topic" - Kiwi))
A bit late, but in regards to the stuff people were posting earlier about TF2 things not working, it affected those ingame too in ways like all crafting recipes failing and not working at all. As far as I'm aware you can't do anything in regards to crafting until it's fixed, so hopefully some sort of update to it all goes out soon to fix stuff.
Imagine a bunch of event locked cosmetics and game modes. I'm gonna go play on helltower wearing my favorite hat, the battlebird.
That's not really comparable when you can still trade for those items and boot up event maps on community servers or offline mode. It's also the only event per year with limitation and even then they don't restrict cosmetics anymore these days. Overwatch does it for nearly every event. (User was banned for this post ("Off Topic" - Kiwi))
Just about the only thing they do right in that godforsaken item system is that you can wear any skin all year round. There are so many old halloween items that I wish they added after they gave up on restrictions.
It would be pretty cool for Mann Co. Store bought items to have a different quality than Unique. I also think limited quantity items on the Mann Co. Store would be pretty cool, like only 500 copies of the item exist and can only be bought off of the Mann Co. Store

Overwatch does it for nearly every event.
they know their shallow game only has a few years in it so they're milking every possible update with short term schemes to bleed money out of their customers this makes the game look more profitable and thereby more successful than it really is. people come back for the new characters and content, stay a little while to play with those new toys, and leave because the game hasnt actually changed/seen any mechanical/skillful evolution and they get bored again. see: the amount of players who bought the game since launch vs the amount of people actually playing. Every game has a dropoff but for a game as hyped and with as massive of a user-base as overwatch the actual player retention is pretty fucking poor. A lot of their players lose interest quickly because people who actually play FPSes don't feel challenged/like the game is designed around the skillful play they're used to
You can't really conclude the game is short term just because events have restrictions on it. There is literally zero correlation to such a claim. I've actually seen higher retention for overwatch than I have TF2. Way more new players stick around there longer than they do TF2. You could also chalk that up to sunk cost fallacy, but regardless you can't conclude the decision was made because they know 'it only has a few years in it'. Blizzards entire shtick is literally making games in a way they will remain relevant for as long as they want.
that's not the conclusion I made I made the conclusion that the events are limited because the game isn't deep enough to survive past a few years, not the other way around also I don't really see how you can compare the player retention with a game that's almost ten years old where most of the original playerbase has long since come and gone
So I saw Jill playing on a 24/7 Dustbowl server after seeing him playing TF2. After Auto-Retrying I got in, then was told that it was Jill's server. 24/7 Dustbowl complete with bonus ducks. I then said "oh I didn't realize it was his server, I am just chasing a story, especially after Valve completely broke Source 2013." Then I got Banned.
I've never played on Nemu's, but I'd imagine one of their rules involves not pestering Jill about work.
I do have to wonder what the logic is behind Halloween restrictions. They still add them, as the three-car vehicles added last year have restrictions, as if they're trying to follow some sort of ruleset anymore. Regular cosmetics have gone against class recognition for quite some time now, so I wonder why they still add a few restrictions every now and then, and keep the older ones for that matter.

You said they only do that because they are aware of its short lifespan, which I rebuttled. TF2's age is irrelevant. I said that new players who pick up TF2 for the first time today are less likely to become invested in it compared to overwatch where a new player is more likely to sink above double digits within the game. Of course I don't have any statistics for this claim, it's only based on my experience seeing siblings and friends try TF2 and it not sticking for any of them, while most all of them that try OW ended up garnering prolonged interest.

I think that could work as a pretty good statistic for investment to a game.
Didn't you make a entire video about the learning curves in both games? I think that could work as a pretty good statistic for investment to a game.
Statistics are about quantifiable things, a learning curve is a loosely-defined concept that has more basis in abstraction than in cold hard numbers. The two aren't comparable unless you find a way to quantify the variety of skills (despite mechanical skill being a very fine gradient; you cannot realistically quantify "aim" as a concept due to there being several different ways to utilize aim in the first place, as well as general accuracy) on top of the quantity of game-specific mechanics that they are expected to know of at varying levels of familiarity as well as the pace at which they are taught about said mechanics, if at all. Neither game are 1v1 games where individual skill and knowhow are able to be pitted against each other, they're massive multiplayer games where everything they know and learn is determined by their overall experience with the other players. There are just way too many variables to make a numbers-driven real (let alone readable) skill curve that manages to encompass literally everything within both games.
Since there's no relevant data about pyro update, let's think about "Heavy" update. What can they possibly change/add to make Heavy better overall?
I want to see brass beast reworked, it's the most worthless primary in his arsenal. It's good with a pocket medic and that's it, usually when you're alone all it does is makes you play passive and it's no fun.
Since there's no relevant data about pyro update, let's think about "Heavy" update. What can they possibly change/add to make Heavy better overall?
How about wait until we get our hands on the core Heavy changes already announced before making any sudden leaps forward without considering the consequences. I'm still of the opinion that Heavy should be able to almost-immediately act out of spin-down. That includes but is not limited to weapon switching, taunting, jumping, moving in any direction, and so forth. The changes presented don't address how linear Heavy's combat is when you compare with his more-mobile opponents. Sure, they made his "shooting good" but there's still an entire weapon slot that's basically dedicated to a snack. His shotgun is fine on paper, but in practice it's just that he has no reason to ever use it when the Minigun is so much better at the shotgun's job in the same ranges. When the game was first launched, the Minigun took almost as long to spin up as the Brass Beast does -- you definitely had a reason to want a quick-response tool handy if you were moving around unfamiliar territory. With all of the buffs to not only the Sandvich but to the Minigun itself, the shotgun fell by the wayside. The Panic Attack that was proposed sits in line with my idea of Heavy being able to actually switch gears mid-combat, but it depends sorely on Heavy's ability to disengage Sasha for a minute so he can get some work done, until he's able to do that, he'll probably remain as shooting/eating man for years to come.
Perhaps some way of giving Heavy a true alternative method of combat, like the steak was supposed to? It doesn't even really do that well, most people use it as a panic button to get away if at all. I suppose the biggest issue would be balancing such a thing to not be outright superior to just whipping out a minigun and mowing them down.

I wonder if since they said there's gonna be an SFM short, that it's the short that's delaying the release of the update. At least partially.
