I wonder if since they said there's gonna be an SFM short, that it's the short that's delaying the release of the update. At least partially.
Unlikely, given the short is likely the first thing they finished given the Voice Actor Strike.
Unlikely, given the short is likely the first thing they finished given the Voice Actor Strike.
And as per the norm, they'll most likely use voices from the game with some (probably) new lines from scout, pyro, or any of the others.
They also might have some previously unreleased dialog or voice lines in store somewhere that they can use later if it fits to the scene. Back when they were making the passing campaign for L4D/L4D2, Valve's Chet asked on a mailing list if any of the custom campaign creators have any lines they could deliver, if they have time after the recording session. There were lines related to cold and such that were shipped with the game, but unused in any official content. That being said, i'm pretty sure when i've mapped for TF2 and looked out for some lines, there's lots of voices that are either so rare that you don't hear them ingame, or they get played only in certain situations, such as wearing certain set or so. Or the lines are actually unused but are still shipped with the game.
I've been thinking about that too. I know they said somewhere they promised new voice lines (no I don't have a source but I remember it being talked about in one of the interviews, not sure which one) but most of those voicelines will probably be going towards the campaign (which is perfectly fine by me)
There is no crunch time if there's no deadlines. Especially at valve, where even if there are, they can be pushed forward indefinetly.
That's not true at all. The TF Folk is as eager as we are to finally get this Update in our hands. Even geel told us of his tales when the TF Team is in Crunch time. While I wouldn't exactly call Jill playing the game he is developing proof that it's next week, I'm still pretty positive it's very soon. As for Bans: I'd just like to apologize to the mods for having to deal with this. The thread is always a bit spammy around this time, however with this being the longest Update drought people are as frustrated as ever. Combine this with the usual new youth from reddit and the like around this time that arent famillar with how this forum operates and you have a recipe for doom. Be patient with us, even though it must be tiring as fuck, this feels like a really drawn out frustrating play at this point. However every play has an ending. Let's hope it's this week.

That's the first time I've ever seen a thread name changed twice. Anyway, I'll probably be making another "change every heavy item and change his core class" post in the weapon fixing megathread tonight, and x-post the stuff here. You guys should really spend some time there, it's almost always dead. (User was banned for this post ("Off topic - THIS ISNT about SPECULATION" - Kiwi))
I still think that, without the badly designed unlocks, Heavy is way too slow for what he has to offer. He's not just the slowest class in the game, he lags behind his team, and unlike other "setup classes", he compensates neither with range (Sniper) nor utility/territorial control (Engie), but with close-mid range damage. His damage either needs to be more precise (but lower in raw numbers), or he needs to have some risky default way of getting around or, preferably, a bit of both to make him into a better combat class. For example, what if he could slam his gun against the ground by pressing "Jump" when spun up, partly exploding the ammo-tank, and in turn losing not ony health, but also a hefty amount of his ammo?
But how exactly can we be sure they're in crunch time?
It's July. There has been some Server work done on a weekend, etc. - it's a given they are in crunch time.

There is almost no situation heavy is using his melee to fight because of his slow move speed, but what if all of his fists made him run at soldier's/demoman's speed while they're equipped? That would be a neat buff so he has the chance to use the melee slot offensively and tactically, and not just to switch to his fists whenever he feels friendly. #deathtoallhoovys

Sasha weighs 330 pounds, pretty sure someone would move faster if they're not holding it. Add a bit longer switch speed to primaries to balance it out (either move fast and possibly get caught with your pants down, or be prepared but slow), adjust the speed-boosting melee weapons as needed, and suddenly both shotguns and melee are more viable on Heavy. On a different note, wondering what they're going to do to the Claidheamhmor? The Half-Half-Zatoichi shtick isn't working for it.
I feel like the most likely thing to happen to heavy is a huge movement speed boost, considering that his mobility is the biggest concern for most of the people. They actually can make his plain move speed match or even be higher than soldier's or demo's. Sounds crazy, but if you think about it more, practically he still will be the slowest class in the game, because demos and soldiers mostly walk only to dodge spam or to get the medkit, rocket/sticky-jumping when possible. But if this happens all of his mobility-based unlocks will have to be heavily tweaked/completely reworked. Making his weapons more precise with less damage output, in my opinion, is a bad idea since that will basically CoD-ify the class (which is already considered stupidly easy by many people), but that still may happen too, to make a class that appeals to wider modern FPS audience.

As to movement speed boost - don't feel like this happening. Suggested GRU and Brass Knuckles changes imply that speed for Heavy still should be of value high enough, to sacrifice health for it. Besides, Heavy as a class should be firepower core of the team, something that other teammates should defend and try to get as quickly as they can on battlefield, like artillery. What i think is going to happen (if any core changes are going to happen) is applicable firepower boost. Heavy's range is too low to fight in open areas and minigun's damage is easily diminished by any sort of cower, since his burst damage is lower than anybody else's. Maybe increase minigun accuracy? Maybe make so it shots one bullet with 4x damage instead of four per ammo unit? Maybe quadruple firing speed with ammo pool and again make it fire one bullet per ammo?
Thoughts: We don't really have any clue on what type of map is coming in the update from Valve. There were reports of people who visited Valve playing a map "similar to pl_thundermountain"... but it was then revealed elsewhere that the map similar to pl_thundermountain was in fact just thundermountain. AFAIK there's been no hints from map authors about being contacted by Valve, which either means they haven't picked which workshop maps will be added for the presumable Jungle campaign, or that the mappers are being sneaky gits. Cosmetics is same as always - no-one knows until the moment it gets added in. New weapons - I'm personally hoping Valve models their own stuff for the Pyro and Heavy packs, but I'd say it's fairly likely that we'll see NeoDement's Afterburner, after having it be included by accident for years in numerous official SFM shots. As for out-there speculation... Either they'll re-use Pauling's voicelines from a previous campaign, or, comically, they'll have the Pyro handle the contract voice lines, seeing as Ashly Burch has probably not been able to record new lines courtesy of the screen actor's strike.

Overall, in terms of presentation,I believe Pyro won't be as impactful as we think - he'll just get his stuff.
I know i'm blindlessly speculating, but i honestly think the Valve Jungle map might just be a MvM map. I remember MvM Siren sounds being added in the MyM update, and the B.A.S.E Jumper Robots being added in 2015. It would make sense for them to be used in the upcoming Jungle update.
Honestly I'm, for some reason, optimistic for this week. I doubt it, I really do, but I just am.

That being said, i have my suspicions too about few people and their maps getting in by the behaviour of the people vs what it was less than a week ago.
I don't think the TF Team has added any community MVM maps to the game yet, maybe now would be a good time since there are plenty on the workshop. They could also potentially incentivize map stamps in MVM by instead of giving you effects for your World Traveler on that map, you could get effects on the weapons you earn from completing a tour. So if you owned a jungle-map stamp and used a tour ticket, you would have a chance to get a botkiller/australium with a jungle effect when you complete a tour of that map.

an mvm map is always possible, maybe even jungle themed, but THE jungle to be mvm is just not happening
My way of thinking was; 1. The Jungle Map, judging by the picture, is set on an island. Robots could come from the air by an airplane or other aircraft and attack said island. 2. The Jungle map seems to be a huge Jurassic Park refrence. Gray Mann may want to take over the island for his own use. I know it's probably not going to happen, but this seems to just... feel right.
If it's MvM there had damn well better be some robot dinosaurs
