secret pages are a thing of the old team.
If Valve does a secret page I could see it being a teaser for the Heavy update.
Which hopefully releases before the end of this year.
Man when the Uber update was being revealed and the Bonk Boy set was on its own secret page that felt like the coolest shit
If it drops August, I probably won't get time to play it,but none of us are sure about the release.

I remember hoping it will drop after my session end, so i could play it when i will be free. Only first half of my wish was granted, it seems.
MyM was originally intended to be 3 days. Let's hope this time it actually happens for this update.
Assuming the Valve map is Payload like rumored/speculated I'm going to lock in my guesses for the community maps as CP_Overgrown (a quality single stage a/d map with great custom assets and TF2 needs more single stage A/D), KotH_Lazarus (a solid Koth map with a unique layout) and PLR_BananaBay (a Payload Race map that's probably going to be nearly as popular as Hightower for may of the same reasons as Hightower).
Calling it now, cactus canyon is going to be reskinned/released this update.
It's the closest thing to a "general" map that tf2 has on standby.

No matter what the final product looks like I'd be glad that it was actually released.
Though I'd rather have Asteroid released first for the space assets to finally be fully available, not to mention that the parts of the map that actually made it to getting artpassed look gorgeous.

It would be pretty insulting if this was the case.
Imagine if somehow we got both the Mayan and Frontline stuff both in this update?
That would be amazing.

that's a thing on the workshop already, It's called Crystal Canyon/Abandoned Cactus Canyon.

Eh honestly I wouldn't hate it, it's a great map regardless of theme unless I'm missing something.
Competitive is only small part of the success and game like TF2 just is more fun without the tryhard mode for majority of the people i've met and played with. I would say that if Valve would offer more playable content that ties the players to do things, such as gain achievements on certain maps or play towards certain goal. Sort of like storymode or similiar that keeps them interested. Also, steady new actual playable content would be great. The 6 month pauses on those really are annoying. Each time i saw bugfix update, i hoped for more but never got any. I get hhat releasing stuff too frequently causes exhaustion but 6 months, even 7 is way too long time without anything new to play on.
Speculation philosophy corner:
I think you're confusing tryhard baddery with a teamwork-heavy competitive environment.
It seems like what valve is doing (like CSGO) is to reduce the gap between casual play and competitive, because at the game's core, it's a skill and teamwork based shooter that regardless of where you play it (mannpower/pass time aren't real TF2) the better organized or composed team will take the win.
They even said so in the "move those weapons up" blog post that they wanted beaten enemies to feel they lost squarely and in a way that can be improved, not due to doof strats and unbalanced cheese.
Tryhardyness, on the other hand, is what happens when players inject toxicity and salt into games, by attempting to find the most efficient way to win via abusing things like class stacking and unbalanced weapons/strategies, because they put winning over enjoying a fair fight, and berate anyone, even their own team for not sharing that idea of "fun".
In real (community run) competitive, you see this less (aside from personality issues within teams, but that's ubiquitous), because teams play a fair match in an agreed upon ruleset that prevents people from abusing gaps in balance as a game strategy. A proper competitive environment in TF2 is something that promotes a healthy game, and serves as a solid foundation for balance, which is why I think valve will move in that direction.
Well, San Diego Comic Con is this week.
There will probably be some new TF2 merch announced there, but I can't recall an instance of a major update releasing during Comic Con ever since the Dr. Grordbort update and the cross promotion with TF2 and Weta during Comic Con.

What would it say if they took over a year to make an update and couldn't even be asked to make a map during said time.
Being honest, i expect their update to probably hit next month if its not this month.
Hoping that all these people talking about the issues will be fixed upon the next up date :s:
I find myself wondering what workshop submissions they will use for the new Pyro weapons. There aren't many with the jungle tag in the workshop so they would have to dive into the larger pool of general Pyro content. That chainsaw is pretty sick though.
I just recalled that it's TF2's 10th anniversary this august. Which means they have an excuse to push it until then and ship it as "anniversary update"
This brings a lump to my throat
(edit; mixed up TF and TF2 release dates)

Always wanted chainsaw as heavy's melee primary. Wasn't going to happen anyway, but still...

I wouldn't give a shit as long as the update is good and the map is in a proper final state.

Pretty sure the anniversary is in Oct, no way they will wait that long to push the update. The player base would be sooo pissed.
EDIT: Looks like the original Team Fortress anniversary is in Aug, and TF2s 10th is in Oct
I was wondering about what if they added seasons to the valve comp mode and when every season end you get a medal is it a good idea?
I am quite confident that this week is the week that I am willing to wager on it.
The update will drop on or before July 20th, as that would make it one month since the "Balance Changes" blog post.
If I am wrong, I will give away my Skullcracker taunt to a random user who rates this post as "Optimistic".
The first pyro update had the ARG with the weird craftable stuff like the secret diary, right? Do you think the community would even have the patience for another ARG these days?

I would say that this update isn't your usual treat - it's necessity. People expect fixing already existing stuff much more than new content, and with a good reason. So playing around with ARG's isn't exactly an option here - they should make it good, ship it fast, and hope that there would be another chance for "fun" updates.

I mean like an announcement day 1 teaser would be nice, maybe a comic too (but I don't think we'll get a comic due to writers quitting)
After playing both the Mayann maps and watching the short, I really hope that they have some content, at least a mention featured in the actual update. Everything is really competent and I would love to see it official.
The payload map the short is based needs a LOT of clipping fixes and other things.
I shouldn't have to jump to get moving in spawn.
Let's assume the tf2 team has 12 people working on it with 5 programmers. What can 5 programmers do to tf2 in a year?

Fix bugs. Change up weapon stats and do balance changes. Fix the camera system.
They can do a lot of stuff in a year, they just don't really do it.
