Personally the main reason I think it's bullshit is because it implies they worked on the Heavy update at the same time as the Pyro update for no good reason, even though Pyro won.
It's almost certain that this is a bunch of bullcrap, but either way, if it turns out to be true, VNN should get his questions answered within a day.
Pretty sure Engie vs Spy became Gun Mettle. The "quest" system planned for Engie vs Spy became contracts, two of the cases are themed after Engie and Spy, and both classes received quite a lot of balancing attention in that update.
I did actually have a thought though last night. We're getting dangerously close to having the update release in August, so what if they actually are waiting until 8/19 or the like to release the update for the 10th anniversary? I mean they've slated it to be one of the biggest updates ever, and I feel waiting until then for the 10th anniversary would make sense.
Not to mention that the spy already has a mafia themed set.

As much as it makes sense, it would just be an annoyance to a community starved for content to hold it back any more than absolutely necessary. Kind of a spit in the face to celebrate "10 years of updates" when they've not actually updated it significantly for an entire year.

Even though i too said that this would be convenient excuse, there's also a counter point to that; it has been already stated that there will be nothing special for 10th anniversary.

Haha fuck no. If they were able to do 2 class updates in 12 months they would be able to do the pyro update in 6 months. Why on Earth would they delay an extra 6 months to release them both at once? Plus they haven't given a shit about anniversaries for like half a decade and afaik they've never even done anything like the two-piece update thing that's being suggested.
I'm gonna chime in on the "Can tf2 be a competitive game?" by saying that TF2 is already a competitive game. Like, at least 99% competitive. The problem with the entire argument is that it is based around the words "Casual" and "Competitive", which seem like pretty easy words to understand, right? Wrong. Since these words have been used in marketing, they've change meaning I'm afraid.
Casual should mean simple, easy to learn. Competitive should mean, simply, that the best player\team always wins, because they're better. However, "Casual" has changed meaning to "unbalanced game" for a very simple reason: it's impossible to make a casual multiplayer game. By simple nature of it being a game, there are ways to be better or worse at it. Which means that eventually you're going to find somebody who is better at you at it. Considering most casual games are supposed to be played with friends (Nintendo games are the worst offenders, like Mario Kart and Smash) you can't just ship them with perfect competitive balance, because perfect competitive balance means that somebody is always going to lose, which most people don't like. As such, random bullshit like the blue shell are added to even the playing field.
This is why Smash is considered "competitive", because once you remove all the bullshit around it that is supposed to make bad players win more and good players decimate less, that's what it is.
TF2 has only 1 mechanic that is really supposed to do this: Random Crits. And guess what, everybody hates crits because we're not playing with Timmy the neighbor's boys, we're playing online with other people and we want the playing field to be even.
Bullet\damage spread can be considered similar, but I think that was added more for "feel", while Random Crits was admittedly put in the game for the sole purpose of fucking over veteran players (and they even fail at that, to add).
At the same time, a game being competitive doesn't mean it's balanced. When we talk about symmetrical games, since both sides are by definition the same, when we talk about balance we talk about strategical balance, that is, having a varied array of options that can lead to victory. But imagine you were playing a fighting game with 500 different characters, but only 1 of these is viable. This game, despite being a shit game, is still viable, because if you put two players one against another, the best one is going to win because they're both going to use that one same character and the one that will pilot it better will win.
In the same way, despite the large amount of content that people considered unbalanced in TF2, the game is still perfectly competitive as long as you remove random crits and spread, which are thing the TF2 competitive community has been doing for years.

I know it's false, but some small part of me still wants to believe. That small part of me is a fucking fool and brings me great suffering.

not that it matters here but I remember a time where someone claiming to be a valve employee posted a handful of dota 2 balance changes on /vg/ and literally all of them turned out to be true a few days later.
Obviously this doesn't mean anything other than chances for stuff in this screenshot to be true increased from 1% to 2%

How Many?
How Many?
About 13 more pages I think?
I mean if they were going to do another war then Engi vs Spy seems like the most likely choice, they're probably the classes most in need of changes after Pyro and Heavy

Oh god what if we need to wait another year for that update too

I haven't been here in a while, why is everybody thinking that the update is coming out soon?

Wishful thinking/it's pretty much the only thing you're allowed to do in this thread without getting banned.

Some people saw Jill playing on his own server on the weekend, add to that the sudden removal of a weird TF2-releated steam app (which got removed, and we were told that it was nothing interesting by Jill, but it still got us hyped), weird issues releated to comp and casual ranks, and I think thats it. Correct me if im wrong.

- Two Blogposts have released, one showcasing some of the balance changes, the other telling Map makers to get their stuff ready. One month has passed for the "get ready" Blog Post now.
- Servers have been acting up the last few weeks alongside with a bug causing Competitive ranks to basically not exist for a week or so now.
- Some Map-makers and content creators have gone awfully quiet as of late.
But really, the most important one is the first. While some expect it later, I personally believe it's this week, and a blog post tonight or tomorrow isnt too far off.

Because we're in summer: we should get an update as usual.
If the jungle update was not planned for summer then Valve would've shipped a low-effort update to distract us way earlier than now. (Just like Smissmass and SF)

They did, It was the may flower cases.

That was back when it was still Spring. If they really wanted to keep us entertained, they would'eve added a bit more than a cosmetics case.

They don't care if we're entertained, the update will be ready when it's ready, if all the resources they have are being used for pyro/jungle then a cosmetic case is literally the most Non effort they can do. It could be that they hadn't anticipated the update taking this long to come out and the case wwas intended to be a tiny distraction for something they thought was closer.

There is actually alot more they can do than just a simple case, knowing how much they enjoy the community content
- Back in 2012 (around Pyromania), they used to add around ~3 new community hats every week to be sold onto the Mann Co. Store / Crafted
- They could revive the Community Map Pack
- Follow through with the "Monthly Community Taunts" they promised back in 2015
- Release weapon balance changes in small bug-fix patches (though they could still keep some for major updates)
So, they could easily do more than just a spring cosmetic case.
[t]https://my.mixtape.moe/mrexyg.png[/t]
Well that helps, I guess. Kind of telling that they seem like they didn't know the bug though.
Well that helps, I guess. Kind of telling that they seem like they didn't know the bug though.
I'm unsure.
I'm positive they already knew of it, but that Eric just simply ain't the guy that deals with the Server stuff, so he redirects it to the Server folk - especially to get that question answered. Maybe. I don't know. Maybe they didn't know of it.
All I know is that instead of the generic "I'll forward yo email, thanks." I got a "I'll forward it to the right peeps."
I'm not expecting an answer, toh.
- Some Map-makers and content creators have gone awfully quiet as of late.
Not really, step around any mapping communities and you'll find pretty much everyone is on equal footing when it comes to anxiety over the maps in the update. It's just that there's not too much of an overlap in the Venn diagram of mapmakers and MUS posters.

I...know I'm saying the case was the easiest thing possible.
