Final Major Update Speculation V37 - This is the last MUS thread. Speculate in General Chat.
So this confirms I shouldn't expect anything until the questions are answered?
He says "intends," and that comment is coming from a Valve employee. So essentially, like everything else Valve says or does, I wouldn't bet the farm on it.
I know it's a frowned upon subject to bring up but: do you really believe that the TF2 team would release the update this/next week when blizzard has confirmed ahead of time that Doomfist will be released on the 27th of July?
It seems an easily avoidable way to lose a lot of attention/income.
That seems like rational behavior--for a normal company. Valve hasn't indicated once that they care for competing with the products of other corporations, and we're far beyond the point where Team Fortress 2 could even be considered a viable rival for Overwatch. That battle was lost the second Blizzard entered the game, so to say, simply because of Valve's nature.
-snip, dumb-
Well at least we still have the TF2 general to talk about the update on, that isn't nearly as bad as the other options
Quick poll for the last MUS thread:
Update will drop when?
Between July 19 and July 23 = Optimistic
Between July 24 and July 30 = Agree
Between July 31 and August 6 = Winner
Between August 7 and August 13 = Friendly
Between August 14 and August 20 = Funny
Later than August 20 = Late
By the looks of things, I would say it is time for us to all give up hope.
I for one will be on here less often now.
these threads were the sole reason i visited facepunch, i'll definitely be sad to see them go, and before the update even arrives too. to be fair though, there's been almost no speculation, but it's hard to speculate when there's nothing to speculate about.
I swear to god if the next blog post is "Balance Change Revisions" I'm done. "Don't worry guys we're not dead! We have a lot of cool stuff coming" is what you see on most dead project blogs.
I really hope the update comes out before mid-august. Releasing an update of this size once a large number of people are starting up school would be a mistake on their part.
At least some sort of acknowledgement on their part like "Look guys we're sorry this is taking forever but we're finishing up" or something along those lines would be nice.
I really hope the final post of MUS is someone shitposting "It's out!" followed by the update actually coming out.
Is there a logical reason that payload tracks are networked and require an edict? I don't think the client needs to be aware of the tracks for the payload train to function, right?
btw gmod has an edict limit of 8000+ -- raising the limit most likely doesn't require a major engine overhaul considering garry managed to do it by himself
The server needs to know where the carts are and are they being pushed or stopped by the players too. Everything that requires networked entities, will be using them and path_tracks are one of those. A large majority of maps can be done with less than 1000 edicts, and if you are a skilled mapper, you know the limits and plan accordingly.

At least we will have good memories from here, like that red herring on the tf2 Christmas board
Good times, good times. It's almost feels like it was yesterday where Crapbasket or Postal (can't remember who) enabled that 1000 posts limit and we were just going through the threads like wildfire. I *really* hope we'll get this update before the end of the year because this is starting to become full bullshit.
Goddammit, this was my favourite thread
I messaged craptasket with questions and he completely blew me off. He also said
"well when was the last time tf2 got an update anyway..lol"
Im reading these sentimental posts and starting to fume at his casual ass reaction to killing this thread.
I dont care if this gets me banned, Fuck off man.

This thread had a unique identity,

Just because you cant seem to remember that the thread always gets like this this time of year doesn't give you the right to be a dick and delete it.
Have you noticed, other than this post perhaps, the post quality has significantly improved since you guys threatened to remove the thread???
This thread was a lifeline for tf2, and you banned it because of a fucking dry spell of content.
It was a hub for fans, discussion, and speculation with the occasional inside joke.
Now its fucking dead.

Go ahead and ban me, this is the only reason Im here anyway.
See you all in the pyro update, I hope the elo system turns out well.

I know that other people have been following MUS for ages since 2011 I believe. I only started following this thread when MyM was the thing to speculate. It is a real shame that it is coming to an end. What particularly saddens me about this is that if the rumor about the roadmap for TF2 has 5 years worth of content turns out to be true, I cannot think of a better place to speculate, actual discussion, other than this thread.
On another note, my wager that I did earlier in the week is looking grim, at least on my end. I have stated if the update does not drop before or on July 20th that I would give away my Skullcracker taunt to a random user. I doubt that such a huge update will both be announced and dropped on the same day so I will assume I have lost the wager. Oh well.
I really want to ask one thing. Why isnt people decide what to do with this thread.

I still wonder why the fuck would the mods care at the first place like this is a forum we discuss about what we want it's our problem as long as we respect the rules

Well we still have the TF2 general to talk about it, until we all start getting yelled at there for some reason too.
-snip-
Will it even matter? Won't we be able to make these when labpunch comes round with the whole "sub-forum-only-moderator" shit?
In case it's a big, stinky NO, then well, r.i.p, it was good while it lasted.
Since everyone's weighing in, I thought I'd say that I'm fine with this being the last MUS. It sounds clichéd to say and you're free to disagree, but this thread just isn't what it used to be. Sure, there was a lot more to speculate on in the past, but even during the dry spells I enjoyed reading what people had to say. The regulars had actual conversations with each other with a few arguments here and there, but looking through the last few threads, I can see almost nothing actually worth reading.
That's not to say it's all bad now; working with Tyler McVicker is something to watch and wickedplayer has been banned, but I still miss ned's friendly speculation and testinglol's inside info.
Back in the day things were more special, the "no update bell" was argued about sometimes, but was generally understood. A few people made interesting Bingo cards, and almost everyone had fun comparing their predictions. Now it's a shell of what it was, seeing "ding ding" almost once per page by people who might not have any idea what they're talking about, dozens of uninspired bingo cards that are ignored by everybody, and to be frank many of the new regulars are rude, standoffish or very full of themselves.
Although this would be a nice place to consolidate all the actual information like communication with the devs and any mysterious hints we notice, that is extremely watered down by... stuff I don't care about. I can understand the mods trying to make the thread more of a place for actual information and speculation, and I understand that it's not. It'd be great if this thread could come back with much, much stricter rules; I'd prefer a slow, almost empty thread over one with 20 worthwhile posts buried in 4981 pieces of trash.
Again, this is my own jaded opinion, feel free to disagree, I'm just selfishly looking out for what I want in a thread.
Maybe there is still a chance to negotiate something if we act reasonable. Going into tyrads and complaining about moderation isn't going to help us very much.

He just doesn't have any drive for tf2 or this facepunch section anymore. That's what happens when you are forced to moderate forums with strict guidelines and rules. That's what happens when you have to moderate anything. Enforcing rules and shit takes it out of you. You just lose your willingness to care, as you just respond to reports and go numb from whatever drove you to become a moderator in the first place. Not to mention other moderators/admins here are doing the same thing, or even see TF2 as a dying game and just don't care at this point what happens.
I'm kind of speaking out of experience, as I was a moderator/admin for neonheights servers a while back for like 3-4 years (haha minecraft trade server LOL) I haven't touched TF2 in forever, until the last half year or so. The stress and anxiety of even having that position, and having to deal with forcing rules/bending rules, dealing with other mods and admins going against what you think is right, etc. All that stuff was just taking it out of me and making me hate the game. Thank god I still love TF2 though, and I have recently resigned from that position, and since then I've had nothing but enjoyment in TF2.
Sorry about the long rant, but I get what they're kind of going through. It is a bit unfair as in place of their laziness, stiffness, and lack of care, this thread is going down. I haven't been on facepunch a lot, but I lurk quite often. Getting to hear your responses and hype towards updates/fixes/speculation was always fun and interesting to read. I'll try to stay on here for the general chat, but I'll be sad to see this thread go. I never got to experience the early days of it, but at least I was able to be a part of it in a way.

Amen to that, I help run Azelphur's surf server, and my god does being an admin on there kill my brain cells or will to play on the server.
Hey, not to waste the last few MUS pages, if we want to complain about the MUS being removed, its better if we do it here:
https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1561877
There are more mods reading it, too.
Fellow lurker-speculator across the years here, with vast majority of posts in these threads. For the very slow trickle in which updates come in any more, I agree that it's time to give it all a rest.
Heck, TF2 turns ten not long from now! That's a hell of a run for an actively developed game, especially for this genre. At some point it's going to be time to just cap it all off, and move on from obsessing over the whats and the whens.
If TF2 sees more frequent updates, I'm all for strange jag rubbing anew.
kill general instead :v:

Not...really. Most of the hype around Doomfist has already been dissipated.
He already got an animated teaser and a PTR launch weeks ago. Social media exploded with Doomfist and Doomfist memes and shit but it died down in a few days, as most buzz is wont to do. Doomfist going live on the main branch on the 27th doesn't matter that much, since most people who wanted to play him have already played him and he's already gotten extensive coverage from your news outlets and YouTubers.
I don't think Doomfist is going to have any bearing on how the Jungle Update is received.
kill general instead :v:
Thats actually not a half bad idea. We get five times as many posts anyway.
