Both Eric Wolpaw and Jay Pinkerton have left Valve and they were the ones who wrote the TF2 comics (and probably the Meet the Team videos).
TF2 comics issue 7 cancelled guys.
Well, that sucks.

Valve has at least one other writer who works on TF2, Sheila Sadeghi.

Cheak the date
Been lurking for months, had to drop in at some point.
I don't think issue #7 is cancelled for sure, they didn't announce that yet (and they would have to), and maybe Sheila Sadeghi will replace Pinkerton at the writing? The issue could be written already and only need drawing, but I think a change of writer is very possible, more plausible than straight up ending tf2 comics.

Okay, well after some quick research, Sadeghi looks to have just completed her MBA, and her current resume states that she does mostly writing and audio editing work. How long do you think she will stay at Valve, especially with a resume that detailed.

And the potted plant takes another victim.
why are you guys stalking a valve's employee now? :/
thats creepy from you vnn...
This whole wave of historic valve employees leaving is worrying imo. Chris Green last week, Jay Pinkerton this week. Steve Jaros and Sheila Sadeghi are the only writers left, and they've been recruiting mostly VR game designers, industrial designers ect. I'm feeling like the 3 titles they announced will be way less narrative focused, and won't have the great art directions valve games always had, and be more VR experimental gameplay showcases. I'm just worried they'll change completely of game design philosophy in the future with so many core creative employees leaving. And leave stuff like rd_asteroid or the comics forever unfinished if the employee working on it just leaves.

This is a thread for hardcore TF2 enthusiasts.
It would honestly be really weird if there wasn't some Internet stalking of members of the TF2 team from people here.

When following a story, trying to find contact info for sources is incredibly important.
I have to wonder what is the reason for all these long time Valve people leaving the company. There's been so many leaving who have been working for several years, since the hl1 release times even. All writers who were involved with half-life games have left. Hopefully nobody else in the TF2 team packs their bags.

For real though, it is peculiar. Do they leave out of boredom, do they wanna find a better workplace or is it just "I saved up enough, I wanna spend life outside the damn offices"?
Notice how in all of these tweets they're like "oooh this will be fun"...

I just wonder if they just moved on and there's nothing to see, or there's a big issue or a big change at valve that made them leave, and obviously nobody's gonna spill the beans. I mean they'd have to leave at one point, but all of them leaving in a 1 year time is weird.
I've read a few articles that paint valve as a tough place to work in with the whole horizontal hierarchy thing and how the authority becomes a bit high school like. I don't think theses devs would have stayed that long if it was that bad, but it sounds like there were tensions between employees because of the way valve functions. We all know about the internal politics struggle too, with the tf team struggling to recruit more devs because other teams would then complain. Kinda goes against the "devs do what they want and roll their desk where they want to work" idea. I don't like speculating but it's just weird, and I can see devs leaving because they just don't like the direction valve is headed in anymore.
Is RD_Asteroid really looked at that fondly? I thought they had given up on it because it was very likely they didn't like it as a gameplay concept. I wouldn't mind if they just wrapped up the lore in a comic and called it a day, or release cactus canyon instead.
I'm sure that working at a company for years can become repetitive. As much as you might love working someplace, a change of scenery or even a break is nice and welcoming depending on who you are. I'm sure unpleasant people/a company as a whole changing to something you might not have signed up for in the first place are definite factors, too. Who really knows. I wish Jay all the best though. He did some beautiful and fantastic work.
Sometimes all you need in life is a break. If I were to work almost day in and out doing high-quality work for 20+ years, I'd want a well-deserved break, also.
Being able to enjoy life for a bit (doing whatever the heck you want, no less) while knowing you're secure enough to do so would be nice. I know this isn't the ideal for everyone, but that would be a relaxing life to live, I'm sure
This is indeed kind of worrying.
I wonder if this will hurt the top-notch lines and general writing of tf2 in the long-run.
I don't blame any of 'em.
It would suck to work for a game company that doesn't make games.
Welp RIP TF2 comic
A lot of really talented folk have been leaving Valve, I guess an era for the company really is ending
So is there no one in the team that also contributes to the tf2 comic?
