To be fair, the only thing I charged the TF team with is continuing the easily observable pattern of failings that precedent has been set for over the past year and a half, with little else to reassure us of something different besides a broad press conference.
That's substantially more than the nothing geel provided.
blades, dude, I love you, but not only are you not answering any of the questions you're being provided, but you're also being a massive hypocrite
you aren't providing any proof or evidence for your claims, just a sense of reasoning that people are asking an explanation for- an explanation you aren't providing
geel is at least explaining his actions here, as you asked him to, and you aren't returning that courtesy
take a step back, look at yourself, reconsider
I did, earlier in the thread actually. I don't hate geel either, it just gets annoying when people disagree just to disagree because they don't like what you say.
He explained his actions by admitting to the same hypocritical strategy I was accused of, tantamount to being a contrarian troll. I fail to see how that helps.
Like I said above, history provides so far, all the facts we have to work with. I have no idea if the pyro update will be botched like the last few, but things like writers leaving valve, no communication and the lack of an apparent deadline are all not good signs.
And yet the real question is why.
Attempting as you claim to disprove my supposedly evidence-free theories with a similar lack of evidence, suggests you're doing so just to mess with me, or to spin some kind of anti-narrative for an unknown reason.
I will yield to objective facts or a convincing argument like any rational being in this regard, yet you've admitted to providing neither of those, and it makes me wonder... Why.

So come on, whip it out babe. Why are you really doing this, hmm?
He's essentially trying to show you (on a cleverly prepared statement of his) the flaw in your approach - you're making baseless assumptions just like he did above, to get you to react - since you reacted, you were also expected to realise this is a play on how you're perceived by others - because you're making the exact same mistake.
Apart from that, his response about "you don't know much about software development" is actually backed nicely by this, which I assume geel didn't want to pull for the sake of keeping it classy.
I guess drastic times call for drastic measures.

and acquired one of the most iconic ones to the tf2 economy/trading community.
Not that I wish to glorify the guy or anything, but it's safe to bet he does know enough about software development to be able to act superior to you. Besides, I already disproved your argument on the previous page, I'll just put a quote here.
Working with old/not your code usually means that even the simplest changes can uncover an underlying issue that you will need to invest work hours to solve. You clearly underestimate the headache potential of a 10 year old game.
Think trying to make a led light blink red but you realise that for its previous purposes it was coded to only blink red after it blinks green if the day of the month is a prime number, tomorrow is a fullmoon, and after it blinks red it will also blink yellow and turn on your toaster and microwave.
So you begin cleaning up the code and refactoring other methods to work like they used to but also take into account when it blinks red because it blinked green but also when it blinks red on purpose and make it differentiate between the cases, you test if you didnt break it, you're wasting a day or two and you have just a single function done.
Now consider you didnt know how it worked before and aftee you make it blink red you notice your toaster and microwave are running and begin looking for references to the the toaster in your code, only to find out some idiot made the red link also turn yellow and turn on your toaster.
tl;dr old code worked on by multiple people is a pain to debug, test, and add onto so the fact their workload isnt manageable is expected. [...]
I don't mean to flame or derail the thread, but please, reconsider what you're saying. You're wrong, everyone tells you you're wrong, but you're still fighting for a lost cause. Makes you look bad and your opinions - void, man...
holy shit dude
(That's literally how silly this argument has become, man)
@quake
We all know who geel is, and there's no doubt of his accomplishments. Although his passive condescending fails to help when attempting to enlighten people.
I've said this repeatedly before and I'll say it again- I'm fine with not knowing as much about development. Its not our job to develop the game, but to help better it.
It seems if you really want to get someone to see why they're wrong, then do what you did in that quoted post and explain why they're wrong, instead of just quipping about how little they know and leaving. I asked him repeatedly in the past to do this, and it was never done, only a circular mockery of my speculation.
Isn't that the point of major update speculation? Is to speculate, however wildly, and have your idea shot down, but learn something from having it be instead of the entire narrative decried as blasphemy for no reason?
Apparently not. I'll stop now. Apologies to the thread, geel and anyone whom didn't appreciate all this.
But I'd like to learn something.
Then look it up yourself, because project management and software development is not something you can briefly go through in couple of posts and still be informative enough.
Two primary weapons for Heavy in one update? Obviously it's a spurious "leak."
Who thinks competitive mode will actually work after this update? :D
Maybe. I'll be glad for the people that want to enjoy it, but personally I'm entirely apathetic.
Who thinks competitive mode will actually work after this update? :D
That seems to be one of the big goals of the update, with an elo system, placement matches and a general weapon rebalance around competitive play and feedback. I honesty hope they pull it off. I don't know if comp TF2 could ever be as big as CSGO or DOTA but it could be a lot bigger than it is now.

or maybe if you set aside your baffling victim complex for two seconds you could consider the idea that people just disagree with what you're saying
Who thinks competitive mode will actually work after this update? :D
I want competitive mode to be more populated. I don't know about everyone else but in Australia, there are very few people queuing for comp games. Average of 20 people searching and 12 people in a game.
I don't know how the devs will make comp more enticing to play but I hope competitive mode will get a bit more popular in the future.
I don't lobby up anymore for competitive due to the fear of being placed in a high ping server.
or maybe if you set aside your baffling victim complex for two seconds you could consider the idea that people just disagree with what you're saying
Can we get back on topic please?
You know, that leak everyone's talking about reminds me of the tobor conspiracies, and how people briefly thought that MvM was going to include the scrapped alien-commando content that never turned out to be true.
Edit:
Is it really a victim complex if I'm dumb-bombed by the same people on everything I say regardless of subject?
I'm hoping the update also gives a weapon or 2 to the classes that interact with pyro the most like spy and engie.
I'm hoping the update also gives a weapon or 2 to the classes that interact with pyro the most like spy and engie.
I'm just hoping they give Heavy a pity melee weapon or something
I know I'm late to this conversation but to confirm that this 4chan thing is truly fake is I made the l4d kinda bag as an all class cosmetic and have not got any device comments from valve. But it is funny to see the community speculating with my items.
Two primary weapons for Heavy in one update? Obviously it's a spurious "leak."
They "leaked" it purely to mess with you Exor, we know it.
But don't get me wrong, I hope the "heavy" update will make heavy less medic-reliant because honestly I've grown tired of that. You can't go on "epic sprees" as a heavy without a medic if the enemy team has half a brain. :/
There was some 4chan post about how someone interviewed people who went to Valve about what was going in the game and a pastebin with some workshop links. They didn't interview any of us and it was all very fake.
Not to step too close or anything, but are you ready to share some information you saw?
I do not know what you guys saw and what you didnt, and I don't know if you are even allowed to say anything about this.
It doesn't have to be specifically what, even small things like "Something was in testing phase, very undone" is good information.
And general what you guys did and how it felt, kinda like reading about Valve visits.

That just looks like a bunch of HL2 files if I'm reading it correctly.

That said, those images look like they're new. I don't know why they'd be pushed randomly. Especially considering it's like 6:00 am at valve.

Steamdb doesn't have an update on file. It's probably a fluke in the tracker.

June 5th commit contains some strange things.
It has translations for many games like chess, go, hearts, spades. It also has something about Friends Beta.
Obviously can be irrelevant for tf2.

To be fair to the fake leakers, the Cozy Camper wasn't meant to be a weapon either if I recall.

Neither were the Wee Booties and the Bootlegger.

Friends beta could be something similar to what CSGO received recently, that'd be cool, or maybe better lobby system, a main menu overhaul if you're being overly optimistic
I just hope any interface changes don't end up scrapping support for custom HUDs, since iirc CSGO doesn't support those either
TF2's default HUD is godawful once you get used to the great custom options out there, and I'd hate to see that customizability go away
Friends beta could be something similar to what CSGO received recently, that'd be cool, or maybe better lobby system, a main menu overhaul if you're being overly optimistic
And what did CS:GO get?
I just hope any interface changes don't end up scrapping support for custom HUDs, since iirc CSGO doesn't support those either

CSGO hud is done with scaleform, which basically is just fancy flash created menuscreen. However, i see nothing wrong in the default TF2 hud. It serves it's purpose just fine.
And what did CS:GO get?
The ability to make a lobby with people in a Steam group: http://blog.counter-strike.net/index.php/steam-group-lobbies/
I wouldn't at all be shocked to see this feature come in the Pyro update since I imagine the TF2 team can use a lot of the same Steam back end as CSGO and just need to implement the system in TF2 itself.
And what did CS:GO get?
You can send and respond to friend requests from the main menu, you can get a list of recent team mates and add them if you wish from the main menu, if you receive an invite to play a game you'll get a notification and you can respond to it without using overlay, also they added nearby lobbies, if the looby leader allows it, you can get a list of lobbies near you and join them if you like to
EDIT: yeah and the steam group stuff, what I'm really hoping for is for the game to properly use the Steam datagrams system, the current implementation doesn't utilize any of its most helpful features
Scaleform for TF2 would mean no more custom huds ever, so I seriously hope it never comes.
Reminder that CS:GO doesn't have custom huds, because the flash files used by scaleform contain executable scripts which people used to cheat / have "legit" ingame ESP at all times and could also use to infect with malware etc.
Valve promised to re-introduce the custom huds to CSGO which they then proceeded to never ever do.
