Why were people salty about pyrovision?
I think it was because Pyrovision/the Pyro reskin weapons were basically the entire second day of the update (besides the awesome Meet the Pyro trailer) and many people were expecting more than that for day 2.
Why were people salty about pyrovision?
I guess people weren't happy that Pyro turned out to be a heavily hallucinating person who sees all bleak and horrible as sweet and silly. Plus, some drew parallels to MLP from Pyrovision, both bronies and anti ones. That stirred a lot of conflict as well. [editline]10th June 2017[/editline] Oh, were we talking about the in-game "meat" part of the update, not the canon and whatnot? Whoops.
I hope contracts in the next campaign won't be tied to certain weapons again like last time. While during GM you could be creative and come up with different loadouts to get the job done, TB's contracts often gave me dumb and frustrating combos.
Why were people salty about pyrovision?
the way i remember the disappointment and "salt" surrounding the pyromania update started with doomsday, i vividly remember being excited for pyromania and seeing a facepunch thread pop up about the first day of the pyromania update just to be met with a page that had nothing but doomsday and some achievements related to doomsday. bare in mind that before this there had been a massive arg leading up to the release, so people expected some seriously mind blowing stuff and all we got a gimmick map with a monkey on it. at the time, people were still hoping that meet the pyro would bring mann vs machine for some reason, so by day two while people were happy about the weapons and stuff everyone was still holding out hope for mvm to make an appearance on the big final day. then the sfm movie came out and day 3 was still not unlocked for hours, this caused much bitching and hype that the final day would be the fabled robot gamemode... aaaaand then it was just pyroland shit. that's the way i remember it at least, you could probably go search up the old threads and find out yourself but i'm fairly sure it went down like that
Good God having an ARG only on Facepunch would be awful. It was bad enough here last year when Jill posted that MyM was going to be Neato and then MyM was delayed and we kept having new people coming here shitposting nonstop. I think there were more bans in MUS during that time than any other time in MUS history. A facepunch ARG would be 1000 times worse. And I don't see Valve every promoting one community over the others like that. It was just awful. I see you registered in August 2016 so I'm not sure if you were actually reading this thread during that time.
Well, I was joking. Guess I didn't make that clear enough.
I didn't like the Pyromania update because it seemed like a lot of superficial pandering to me. I guess maybe I was "salt" from it because I thought all the jokes were really predictable, and it seemed to bank everything on being funny. I like TF2 being funny, but the humor around that update felt like it was looking directly at the camera, winking, and saying "pretty funny huh?" If that makes sense. It's been a long time, so I don't remember super clearly, but wasn't it also during the era of new weapons being released far faster than outstanding issues with previous weapons were being addressed? I remember feeling like Valve didn't care about gameplay and were just going to continue to add new weapons and cosmetics since that was what made them money. I couldn't fault them for that, but it wasn't a game I wanted to play anymore. I took a break. I came back a few years later and felt like weapon balance was extremely improved. Could've just been my attitude being refreshed though I guess.
all of the weapons added during the pyromania update were broken as fuck and had obviously not been tested for five fucking seconds. the scorch shot is still absolutely stupid. it's like the Detonator but you don't have to try.
My favorite update has to be Two Cities, it made me be actually interested in MvM, I loved the addition of australium weapons, killstreaks and sheen effects, and I even managed to make a bit of profit by playing these tours What are the odds of the next update having contracts and weapon skins again?
Time around Two Cities and (especially) Love and War was the most enjoyable time playing TF2 for me
For a while, Gunmettle was one of my favorite updates as of late. Mostly because I enjoyed the new maps, the changes they made ( for the most part ) for weapons, and being able to play games with everyone actually doing something about the objectives. But in all oddy, I actually prefer the Meet You Match update, just because I could get into normal games with people all playing the same game. People actively playing the objective on a regular basis and not getting plagued by matches full of Die hard people only wanting to DM full time ( and often attacked you when you started killing them regularly ) and friendlies left and right. The game actually started to feel like an actual game, and not a complete chore to play for me. Of course it was a little chunky at first with getting into games at the start taking sometime, but after a week that went away and I was having a blast right and left. Hell, even after 919 games I'm still mostly having a blast playing casual matchmaking.
What are the odds of the next update having contracts and weapon skins again?
100% confirmed by Dave Riller on the TF2 team, we're getting a new choose your own adventure type contract system where you decide what you work towards and non stock weapon skins. Gunmettle was great as well since it had a ton of great rebalances (I almost consider it the start of a new era of TF2 where the team actually started to give a sht about about balancing the game) and a bunch of maps (which Valve had added very few of in the previous few years).
Jill just release the balance blog post please. Come on. Be nice to me.
Jill just release the balance blog post please. Come on. Be nice to me.
I believe they test these until the last minute, I could be wrong though. That's how I saw it happen in dota
I still say my favorite update was Summer 2013 with the cooler crates.
Pyromania was a tad underwhelming after the sheer cornucopia of content brought by the Uber Update. Day Two proved to be nothing more than a stupid gimmick that some individuals enjoyed for maybe a week or two before becoming an ignominious mark of newness. The update also fell victim to Valve's misguided penchant for nerfing so-called problem weapons into oblivion rather than reworking them into usable but inoffensive sidegrades.
Man i want another blog post like this soon http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=8256 It's so simple but it built so much hype, remember when valve themselves had fun with the game.
You reminded me: http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=4822 Will it ever happen again?

Please TF team, give us a sign. Are we right about June?
Please TF team, give us a sign. Are we right about June?
No.
The update also fell victim to Valve's misguided penchant for nerfing so-called problem weapons into oblivion rather than reworking them into usable but inoffensive sidegrades.
I actually liked most of the rebalances they put in. The Crossbow was made good (though not as good as it would eventually become), The Quick-Fix got a neat gimmick, the Equalizer got the axe, and best of all, the Tomislav and GRU got- Oh wait, sorry.

Mark of death is pretty easy to manage if you listen to teammates, pay attention to where people are fighting and pay attention to sounds around you. Infact, since heavies can't instantly drop sandvich and heal 150 health bleed might be even more impactful then mark of death unless he has a medic on him the entire time.
Maybe a second hat-redescribing contest? Pretty please?
It doesn't matter if you feel the changes were justified or not, the bottom line is that no weapon should be stricken with irrelevancy. For as much as I loathe the current iterations of the Sandman and Crit-a-Cola, I wouldn't wish that even on them. It's awfully myopic and selfish to desire a weapon "nerfed into oblivion." And please don't say such nerfs are acceptable even as temporary measures. The Tomislav was rendered complete rubbish for three years before being salvaged, and we all know what Valve's time table is like.
Maybe a second hat-redescribing contest? Pretty please?
I'm kinda surprised they haven't done this yet. It would probably be super easy to do with the workshop, allow people to submit descriptions on cosmetics added to the game and then show the descriptions and allow people to vote for them. Valve can then look at the top rated descriptions and decide which ones they like the best.
What do you guys want out of the sfm short
Just asking to all of you How much money are you gonna save when the pyro update hit's. If you plan on not spending anything and just playing the game than that's perfectly fine, but for others who spend the game mainly. Well i just wanna ask a simple question.
What do you guys want out of the sfm short
Being able to watch it soon

If the update sees to be really good and has skins for some of the weapons I use often then I will probably get two $20 steam vouchers.

Not that I ever did, but I remember contemplating buying the pomson, for instance. It used to be hard out there for F2P who wanted to try out brand new weapons. Nowadays the struggle is different because they just don't release weapons.
What do you guys want out of the sfm short
What does everyone think the focus of the SFM will be? For Jungle focused For Pyro focused For Jungle and Pyro focused [IMG]https://facepunch.com/fp/ratings/heart.png[/IMG] For something unrelated to the Jungle theme or Pyro. Personally I think it's going to just be focused on the jungle aspect of the update and not necessarily the Pyro.
