This.
What kind of unfair advantage gives me playing on directx8? Aside from, you know, at least play at 30 fps like any other normal game.
Hopefully not the balance changes post at least as they were proposed as a "check these sick changes out before we make them official so you can complain about whatever changes we make just in case we make a big oopsie.".
That might potentially push back the update though based on feedback if they do something really dumb, but in that circumstance it might be for the best.
Watch it release in December.

The game needs to be pretty for twitch.
Gotta get them esport bucks

At this point were hoping for "this year".

I'm assuming DX8 isn't allowed because it prevents the paid weapon skins from appearing. Same reason why we never had an official "no cosmetics" option.
Seems more believable to me than the whole "gotta make the game look consistent for streamers" excuse.
Watch it release in December.
It's seems more likely, more reasonable, and a much better business decition to have it come out this summer, also for the past couple of years the summer update is bigger than smissmass, how ever it doesn't feel all that close to me, course I have be wrong or completely surprised by the timing of every update update since if been playing, so I'm probably wrong. But my gut just doesn't feel like it's that close
I'm sure that the Update is Soon™, but god this wait is murder.
tf2 never worked that way and there's no sign that will change
Valve not normally working like this is why I want it to stay.
I want valve to run changes by the people playing the game before adding them to only touch on them years later after years of people complaining.
Or just leaving the weapon as useless.
At least its a first step in the right direction. For what I want at least.

As of a month ago, it was still in the plans.

Makes me hope to one day see the feetless disguised Spy "feature" dropped.

It seems like valve has gone dead though.
No replies to VNN, no updates for the workshop submitters, no nothing.
Whaddya think might have happened?

Coding/animating/mapping the fuck out of time they have

Because why spend time giving the community what it wants, when you can instead give them what you think they want.
I mean, I do want a major update, but not at the cost of radio silence.

That's, unfortunately, how things work
When you work on a project there is a point when you lock features because you need to ship stuff and you can't allow yourself to keep constantly adding features
If they keep communicating with community and changing update contents they will never ship it, or ship it but it will take too long (even longer than it takes now)
I'd rather have them ship it asap, so it can be followed with other big update addressing new issues in several months later instead of updates that are extremely polished but take forever to ship (and they won't be perfect anyway, you can't code without bugs or balance stuff on such a big scale without fucking something up)
The only thing they can do at this point is to cut some content, which would be a very reasonable thing to do, considering how long it already takes to finish the update
That, of course, applies only if update isn't ready already, probably they are just sitting on top of it waiting for something to happen to release it, who knows

I feel like hope for June is slipping away more and more each day we don't hear anything from the TF2 team, either the weapon balance blog post or answer to Tyler's questions.
It does seem more and more likely that the update wont be hitting before summer sales start, unless they blogpost end of this week or beginning of the next and release around the summer sale start.

Yup after such a long time I just want some new content

Since most of the recent major updates in the past happened around the the beginning of July. It will be a logical assumption that we will either
1) Get a blog post a week before the end of Jun and get the update close to the beginning of July
or (The option I think will most likely occur)
2) Blog post comes out the start of July (some time in the first 3 days) then a week later we will get the update.
Reasoning:
Gun Mettle launched 2nd of July 2015
Meet your Match launched 7th of July 2016
Very likely the update will launch between the 1st of July and the 10th of July.

A feature freeze is needed, yes I agree. Should one receive feedback about features that are wished for, it can be noted down and looked into months later.
Feedback can just be "we are working on it" or a "thank you for your opinion" and that is still much better than silence.

Both silence and "thank you for your opinion" don't affect the product, the latter one only makes overly attached people feel better
That's why i really like Valve's "communicating through the product" policy - in most cases direct communication is just a waste of resources (time is a resource too)
Just think about how thanking you for the feedback or saying that they are working on something affects the final state of the update? It doesn't affect it, at all, but it takes out somebody out of the active dev team for some time to do that stuff. So in the end what we get is wasted time in the price of satisfying somebody.
I realize i may be wrong, i have only theoretical understanding of that stuff since i didn't finish any projects myself yet to be backed up by personal experience. My explanations are wonky, somebody like geel probably would explain this in a better and more realistic way.
This Update is different though, this isn't your usual Summer Update, this is a double-sized omega Update they killed two other Updates for.
At this point I dont even care if it doesnt release in June
for the love of god though, don't make us celebrate a "1 year without Major Update" Anniversary of sadness.

I'll admit that I haven't tried Competitive mode almost since MyM shipped - is the FOV limitation still locked to something like 70 degrees? Not the weapon viewmodel size, the actual Field of View that is 70 degrees by default and can be turned to 90 in the Options menu.
Because that limitation's even more ridiculous than the DX9-only part, in my opinion. Pretty much all modern FPS games have had a FOV of 90+ available for many years, and the default value of 70 is some outdated Source menu/engine legacy bullshit that should've been changed to 90 a looooong time ago by the TF2 Team themselves. Pretty much any even remotely regular TF2 player changes it to 90, I'm sure. It's absolutely detrimental to a new player, it only puts them at a considerable disadvantage compared to people who max it out.
Or am I wrong and it's the weapon viewmodel FOV that's locked in Competitive and the true FOV in that mode adheres to the setting in the options menu/console command?

I hope Valve isn't listening to these YouTubers when they make their balance changes. Most of them seem to have a questionable sense of balance, at best.
The only overpowered weapon on this list is the Vaccinator, which is just plain obnoxious in any environment it's used in (and is also the fastest way to clear out a low populated server). The other weapons listed are balanced, or in the Your Eternal Reward's case, actually underpowered.
Also, how can you make a top overpowered weapon list and not mention the Crit-a-Cola, Darwin's Danger Shield, or the Reserve Shooter? They're not even in his honorable mentions.

I'm pretty sure they didn't limit viewport FOV, and iirc they increased the viewmodel FOV limit a little bit when they fixed chopped viewmodels.

Yeah this is a popular misconception. I tested it out shortly after the update went live.
