I sent an email to the contact person on the SAG-AFTRA person asking if the struck games list was current since it hadn't been updated since 3/20 and got the following response today:
So yeah most if not all of the TF2 voice actors haven't been able to record lines for TF2 since the strike started around 8 months ago.
I mean, I'm sure they'd be able if they wanted to...
SPECULATION TIME
I think the crunch period is over. The TF Team responding to emails again, as well as that blog post going live and detailing that they've started the vetting process for items to get into the update, makes me feel like much of the content within the update itself is already done.
Specifically, I believe they've finished, or nearly finished:
* Their Jungle map
* The SFM short/other things requiring voicelines (IIRC they announced the SFM short well after the strike started, so either they had the lines for it recorded in advance or they fucked up and announced something they can't release. Judging by Nathan's comments last year, though, and the timetable he said he went to Valve to record lines for the next major update, I'd be surprised if the voicelines for next update aren't already recorded.)
* Their initial set of balance changes, prior to feedback
* The creation and selection of stats for the new Pyro weapons
* Coding for the changes to MM and the such
Now, obviously this could be partially or totally wrong, but I don't think it's totally unwarranted. If our schedule is still the beginning of next month, it won't mean that the TF team is idling- it leaves them 2-3 weeks to do the following:
* Ensure the server and game coordinator are set to handle the new changes via stress tests. Remember the period before MyM's release where it kept getting pushed back behind the scenes because the matchmaking system was a bitch to deal with? I imagine we're in the same position right about now.
* Pick out the best of the Workshop submissions (assuming they haven't already decided on some, which I doubt) and test them.
* Pick out the best of the Jungle maps from the community and put them through some rigorous rounds of playtesting. Some mapmakers may start receiving communication in these weeks (presumably) leading up to the update.
Re-emphasizing: if our ETA is the first week of July, which is seeming likely, that means there's three weeks left until the update releases. I highly, highly doubt that they've left important work like the SFM short/balance changes/Pyro weapons/Jungle map unfinished.
The blog post indicates that they've started their Workshop item/map vetting process and already have a few options in their sights. If there's anything left to be done besides vetting/testing the community-made content for update and ensuring the servers are ready for the big change, I'd be genuinely surprised.
Based on the information available, I'd estimate the balance blog post at the end of this week or the beginning of the next, with a response to Tyler's email coming either within the next few days or the end of next week, after the balance blog post has already been released.
Also, the Sniper's voice actor said that he recorded voice lines recently. And, you forgot to mention the new campaign.
Why are people expecting the pyro update to be so huge?.
1. Inside sources say it'll be huge
2. It's been a year and they've skipped two holidays to work on it. It better be fucking huge.
I honestly almost don't give any fucks about most of the content that may be in the update
Just give me some neato rebalances and proper competitive matchmaking
Why are people expecting the pyro update to be so huge?
Seriously, if you guys want to enjoy the update you might wanna lower your expectations to the level of what VALVe sees:
A simple update that will bring some balances changes and weapons to the pyro class, alongside some changes to competitive mode. in addition to few community hats and a Campaign that won't work for the first week.
Some folks already started expecting a full release of all beta maps along with new maps, Jetpacks and the 10th class, in E3.
It's been an entire years and two updates skipped, if it is not huge valve could as well just abandon development, it would be more honorable than keeping making a huge joke of themselves. If they don't want to\can't work about it fine, but at least just be fucking upfront about it.

This is literally *the* Update where large expectations are completely justified.
As others said, they skipped two Updates, themselves said that it's gonna be "one of the largest" and it took an entire gosh darn year.
This is THE Update that is supposed to make TF2's name good again.
The pyro update better nerf the Sun on a Stick. Thing's just way to strong right now.
For those who were waiting for the Model pack, cant you just use the Mayann Modle pack ?

Both the Mayann and Borneo assets can work for the jungle theme so map makers have a good amount of assets they can use. I'm sure some people will make some custom assets as well.
if valve simply reverts the bison back to how it was i will enjoy this game again
I'd be fine with the Bison as it is now if they fixed the projectile hitboxes for the Bison/Pomson.
I can't hit shit at point-blank let alone medium range. It's terrible. The rebalance destroyed their hitboxes and now I'm lucky if spamming it down a corridor actually hits someone.

Yeah B4nny posted a video a couple of weeks ago where he tries to get kills with the Bison; it's pretty funny to watch one of the best TF2 players struggle to get kills with it.

Well I'll never forget that:

I honestly found it pretty annoying that the bison could long range spam and deal damage that varied wildly according to arcane map position details. I never really thought about it before the nerf, but I don't know if I want soldier to have a long range harassment secondary, especially one with such a gauzy projectile.
i miss being able to use the bison effectively in mvm

A damage cap wouldn't hurt tbh.

The in-game tips were community-submitted. Remember the Frying Pan/Shovel one?

There is also a Cambodian asset pack as well, and I'll be updating the trees in it hopefully on Sunday:

So there is a non-trivial amount of variety, jungle wise.
How much time does the TF Team usually leave before contacting/accepting works and releasing the Update?
I don't. What was that one?
iirc it suggested not using the Pan when you wanted to be sneaky (CLANG)
off-topic, gonna make a big list of balancing for that thread based on things i've learned recently and in the past, using the 6v6 global whitelist, community uproar, and personal experience
This, is the million dollar question.
Do we have any kind of general estimate? Or is it different each update?

Only precedent so far was the Halloween 2015 deadline, which was announced about a month in advance with a cutoff date and all. Other deadlines have been much, much less firm than that, but I suspect that since the Jungle update has been taking submissions for the past half-year or so, that the recent blog post was a "last call for submissions!" type-deal.

I agree, but to add to it it was kinda a "Hey mapmakers get your stuff done now!" since the assets are most likely coming out with the update

There wasn't actually a cut off date for that, just that everyone knew that the update would be hitting before halloween so you could work towards knowing that goal and have items/maps submitted early enough. But if we use that as a marker, they let you know around a week (more or less) before the update that your map is going tobe added. If the update hits around beginning july, there's propably around a week left before they are set on the stuff they want to add in.

No, they totally gave a submission deadline that year.

Whoops, i'm too old. Cannot remember anymore. My mistake.

There is no textbook estimate but generally chosen community content is finalized near the end of update development so it's a fair assumption that they're approaching that point
Off topic, but since the general thread is dead and this thread basically has the second largest userbase I'll ask here:
Anyone know a good vanilla MvM server? All I can find is that 10vM and join-the-bots and increased money bullshit.
