I'd probably get suspicious if I swung my arm about twenty times and didn't hear the electric sound at least once.
I hope that we get some surprise optimizations in the Jungle Update, I can run TF2 at Max and 130+ FPS, but with my hardware I should be getting a lot more and not everyone is lucky enough to afford a desktop i5/i7 for the best TF2 performance.
I've been digging through the tf_pirate.txt localization file, and this is too detailed not to be important. It's unfinished, yet incredibly detailed, changing many of the cosmetics names and descriptions. Just copy and paste the contents into your own localization file. It's crazy.
Woah, what if part of the jungle update has to do with pirates washing ashore a jungle or something? Like, the pirate speak is a huge thing that will completely change the way the game reads?

Valve didn't make the translation themselves. They used the STS.

Some of the changes do not seem automated. Have you read through it?

STS is Steam Translation Server, the community does free translations for Valve's games and then Valve adds the finished translations to the games. As far as I know none if it is automated/machine translated, it's all done by the community.
Pirate has been on STS for a long time (I think it's more or less used as a test and for people to get their feet wet with the service). Of course that doesn't mean that it couldn't be related to the Jungle update, the map could certainly be set on a pirate island but it's also possible when Valve updated the localization they accidentally grabbed the TF2 pirate stuff as well.
The pirate language was designed as a test language for English-speakers. It was a playground-sandbox for things to try stuff.
Later the beta/alpha/delta branches got implemented inside the website giving the ability to spread the level of access among users. Plus the main system administrator and creator of the website is not native English speaker so he works with his own language in order to test anything.
Another reason to close the use of Pirate language was that people have started to ask for their own languages. For example they've asked for "Soviet lдnguдge" for quite some time. And then came the decision that these joke languages would just slow the things down. There are still some enthusiasts who try to translate things to Pirate but mods aren't checking it.

So you're saying people could be putting government secrets in the pirate language, and Valve would have added it to the game accidentally without noticing?

It's an offtopic subject but still...
All users alike may submit their translation suggestions. Moderators are people either hired or chosen from the community. Their task is to Approve or Decline each translation submitted. Then we have Admins who apply approved (or sometimes declined) translations. These are straight Valve employees who insert all the stuff from STS to games/websites/Steam etc.
So no... the only ones who can implement government secrets are Valve themselves. And yet there is nothing happening in a public branch of STS right now. Regular translators are not given any secret pre-release info anymore after a number of leaks. Well... those with access to secret files neither.
You see, that way the company works spreads to all it's levels. They cannot finish the balance changes blog because some stuff gets removed and some added all the time so some things that were made now may not be implemented at all. Adding all kinds of strings to STS would just make the translation files even bigger with text that would never be used because those mechanics were not even programmed in the game.
So no, there is nothing to be found inside the translation files or servers. Sorry, guys.
I want to believe, VNN, but pretty sure it was all community stuff and nothing secret is hidden.
The great steam treasure hunt gave me an idea years ago that pirate themed TF2 update would be awesome. I even planned to do a map as such, never got around it.
If this jungle stuff would turn out to be something piratey, i wounldn't be surprised. However, whatever comes out, it's new map with new assets from Valve. Always looking forward for them to show inspiration to us who just do maps casually.
I doubt the jungle will have much piratey stuff in it, but with the "land" letters it is possible that it will have some amusement park stuff to it.
I would love some of the MvM bots dressed up as pirates on some knock off pirate of the carribean ride set in a jungle.
toomanymoths made a video about those translations in case you're too lazy to check them out

Steam Sale starts in 4 days and ends at the 5th July.
Can anyone bring out that spreadsheet again where they check the cases of Updates releasing around a Summer Sale/in one/after one, because the 6th is a Thursday~

Summer Update 2013 July 10 - Steam Sale July 11-July 23

Gun Mettle July 2 - Steam Sale June 11-June 22
Meet Your Match July 7 - Steam Sale June 23-July 4
Yeah I would say this week is extremely unlikely at this point and the earliest we'll likely see the update is probably July 6th.
Pirate has absolutely no connection to anything upcoming. It was on sts for ages, is community maintained, anyone can edit it. There is an application process for getting into the sts, where you have to select your native language, and you will be given a test store page to translate from english to the language you speak, which will be reviewed by moderators of that language. If your native language is english, but you want to get into sts, you're supposed to select pirate.

I hereby declare the Update will release on the 6th.
I find it cute that all the achievements have been given a pirate theme, even mvm is called the monthly viking masacre.
New MvM Pirate-vision confirmed?? /s

(On Topic: Didn't most Summer Sales add TF2 Items?)
Since it seems a bit relevant to the current discussion, I'd like to say I've been occasionally working on a pirate mvm map. I still have pretty much no idea what I'm doing and it'll probably never be released, but I might show it off eventually.
Also were those custom robot swimming animations ever finished? They would be quite useful for a certain section.

EDIT: thank you
I thought of an interesting quality of life improvement idea for the medic and I wanted to see what everyone thinks.
My thought would be double tapping E while playing Medic causes the medic to yell out voice lines like "Over here" or "I'll heal you" and a healing icon pointing to the medic appears for all nearby teammates. Maybe if you have your crosshair over a specific player the medic could even have class specific voicelines calling out that character for healing.
Obviously you wouldn't want the call to be seen by all friendly players, but it would be a good way to being able to get the attention of nearby friendly players.
Is it possible to get a more concrete deadline for submissions by asking valve?

You can email them directly and ask but I wouldn't bank on it.

When they tell you submit, you submit. Do it now and if you hesitate, soon it might be too late.

I doubt they'll give anything concrete since y'know, it's valve, but they're pretty much saying ASAP.
