I know I'm late but most of these changes were indeed a pleasant surprise. Now I'm really looking forward to the update.
I'm very happy about the Sandman nerf.
I've noticed a lot of people crying that the Sandman/Cleaver combo got shafted, saying it was "skillful". That combo was one of the most obnoxious things in the game and every time I encounter a Sandman Scout, I would be lucky if they didn't have the flying guillotine ready to kill me instantly.
Skillful my foot, wasn't difficult at all to land the combo...
That razerback nerf is a massive spy buff
Hey, you're right. If the medic isn't actively healing the sniper, the spy could just go point-blank and 2 shot bodyshot his back with stock, especially on spots like Viaduct rock. Or, he could use the enforcer and 2 shot from a more decent range. Ambassador is an option still, too.
There's no reason to use razorback anymore, it seems. If you can quickly dispatch of the snoip with your gun weapon as spy, why bother stabbing?
I had the idea with overheal before, and I was really happy about it being implemented. But now, it feels like it's broken the weapon to uselessness. The only downsides are that you won't get the benefits of YEAR/Kunai/BE. (You can get BE boost on a poke)

Obviously it protects from chainstabs

My point exactly. Once the ball hits, you slow down to a crawl. And due to the cleaver's fast speed, the scout has a high chance of hitting ya, especially if you two are close to one another.

In higher up games, the sniper will still be protected by his team. In lower end he can also stay near a sentry which will murder the spy before he can get the second shot in. It's just not completely impossible to get that important pick kill as a pick class now. Sniper now just has to rely a little bit more on his teammates to keep him alive now is all. Which is honestly good since sniper is a very powerful class in the right hands.
Do you guys think the BFB might get buffed in the upcoming update?

Not really too worried if some underpowered weapons get left behind. Not to say it won't, but getting problematic weapons that actual impact games is more important to me then addressing those right now. I presume since this update only really covered half of the classes though, I presume the next blog post concerning weapon rebalances will be more leaning the other classes more or less though. We'll see though in the future.
Hoping Pyro is going to have significantly more changes then the other classes as well. I really hope they rework him into a way more functional and exciting class now lol.

Imagine if they actually do something with the Sharpened Volcano Fragment :v:.

In my opinion, you disrespect the rate of fire of revolvers. Perhaps prolonged usage of Ambassador has spoiled you, but I won't know.
It would take a single second to kill somebody with the Revolver vs just clicking the stab. (1.3 with ambassador, and yes, these 0.3 seconds matter a LOT, it could mean the difference between the sniper strafing out or not.)
I've never found somebody that could react to my Revolver pick without being prepared (as in, trying it out on them intentionally).

I'm a bit curious though how fast the heavy's MAX HP will drop replenish with GRU though. If it's too fast they may as well have tossed those gloves in the garbage lol. I do agree though that current GRU's downsides are way to easy to get around to be warrant as a good "downside", more so when the perk of the weapon hits one of the classes actual downsides. I'm also curious if when the Heavies health is recovering, will I need to get health as my max HP raises or will it heal back to where it was normally as long as I don't take damage.
I wonder if they'll use the current self healing model where you get more healing the longer it is since you took damage even though the GRU will take away max health and not do damage.
Holy moly...
Every discord channel I'm in flooded with people crying about the dead-ringer screaming "Fuck you Valve it didn't need nerfing!"
Best. Nerf. Ever.
I wonder how long the team has been sitting on that Vita-Saw idea.
There's been an unused and seemingly non-functional attribute in the game for a pretty long amount of time that would appear to be linked to the new mechanic.
This is assuming they reuse the existing heads system which is used for the Eyelander, Bazaar Bargain and Airstrike.

Or maybe the proposed Vita-Saw change was/is just one of several other weapon ideas that revolve around collecting 'heads' on hit.
I still think a mechanic that lowers max health over time is a dumb idea.
The GRU I can understand, but why on the Eviction Notice? No one uses that thing for speed, they use it to punch.
Do you guys think the BFB might get buffed in the upcoming update?
It be pretty easy to fix that weapon I find.
I'd just increase the damage needed to loose boost to 0. Currently its like 25, I'd probably just up that to like 70 and it be fine. Maybe make gravity damage not count for it.
So then it actually be possible to lose some but not all of your boost.
I hope the organs hud overlay is more than just [ <3 x4] and it's actually just a small row of differently drawn organs, not just a generic heart or something.
it's going to be exactly the same as the revenge crits or heads meter, calling it now
Looks like the Your Eternal Reward, Dead Ringer and L'Etranger are viable again
Looks like the Your Eternal Reward, Dead Ringer and L'Etranger are viable again
i assume you mean as a set

The YER still kinda sucks.
Silent killing is not really a plus when mic communication exists, since they seem to be balancing for competitive anyway.
Valve has stated that they don't hold on to content and release it when it's ready.
Uhh....

Though to be fair MyM was a massive failure, an exception rather than the norm. It seems like Valve is actually taking their time with this coming update, and I hope they don't make the same mistakes MyM made

Watch as the Eyelander winds up stealing organs from a Vita-Saw Medic if this is the case. Just like with the Bazaar Bargain :v:
One thing I really want changed is the Ubersaw (and now the possible new vitasaw) not getting charge when attacking a dead ringer spy, most of the time when I play med I'll target spies with the ubersaw to build my charge but there's no charge with dead ringer spies.

what if you can steal heads as a medic? :v:
But I liked kicking ass with Eviction Notice.

But perhaps now, since DR was nerfed, it's balanced to be like that, see?
a nice touch would be if the vitasaw had organs actually show up skewered on the needle after hitting.
The new DDS is good. The Scorch Shot has been too fucking annoying for too long. 2Fort sniping just got fun again.

I'm a little worried about the combination of knife kills depleting your cloak meter and the 50% drain combination more then anything about the YER. L'tranger is probably going to be a requirement just to make it viable at all to counter act that downside.
Though, the ability to disguise is nice at least in a sense. I can consider going after engineers more with that knife now as well I guess.
Out of curiosity, does the rapid disguise perk about the knife work fast enough that sentries won't immediately gun me down even if I stab it's engineer in front of it? If it doesn't maybe I can reliable stab and sap engineer nests when the engineer is in front of the gun instead of waiting for him to run behind it...
If you haven't noticed already, one of the ways to balance the weapons was to enforce sets. Saharan spy, Armaments (jeepcap set), #1 Fan etc.
I suspect we'll be seeing this pattern more when stable changes hit stable (Buffalo heavy anyone?)

it was never fun, and it still isn't. Training mode is a more captivating use of my time than sniping on 2fort.

On the flip side, imagine if a medic is lucky enough to get a melee kill on a maxed out Eyelander Demoknight.
