It honestly seems all so crazy to me that these two people were running this crazy system that just spells out corruption. Was it all really that messed up? or were sources just biased at the time. It wasnt till last few months i even heard drama about some community update. I'm guessing this was the "drama behind the scenes of some community update" that led the TF team to start doing the community updates in the new format now?
Yeah, i worked on the update ; i do confirm that it was a complete mess. I've lost all the respect i had for bang in one steam chat session.
Perhaps they could make it so that you actually get matched with players of a similar skill level in casual
It's probably not possible to match 24 players of similar skill 99% of the time so the matchmaker tries to balance out the teams as best it can based on levels (which certainly isn't perfect). Hopefully with the Pyro update they'll be a hidden ELO system for casual to help better balance the teams.
After some thought, I'm pretty skeptical about class limits. So far it seems like all the suggested limits are 2 at the lowest.
If the goal is to stop overpowered class stacking, 2 medics is too many.
If the goal is to stop "deadweighting," 4 sniper-spies is too many.
Maybe it would mitigate things, but it wouldn't really solve them, and it would come at the cost of a great deal of resentment.
Also I think class limits in casual are about as likely as having random crits turned off- except for the fact that there's an almost unanimous consensus that crits should be turned off, whereas class limits are clearly more controversial.
I keep hearing that Valve is going to add an Elo system to TF2, which is apparently a good thing.
I don't actually know exactly what that is, but I hope people make Jeff Lynne jokes when it gets added.

ELO is essentially a "secret" number that increases/decreases depending on the match.
The simplest ELO is: your number decreases if you lose, your number increases if you win. Then the Matchmaker tries it's best to match you with people around your number. In most games there is more that factors into that, but thats the gist of it.

does anyone know whatever happened to bang and ronin? did they dissappear from tf2, or are they still trying to pull scams like this?

He is still in the Steam group which carries his (old) name. He either is really bad at removing all the traces of his past or really dumb... or both.
He is still in the Steam group which carries his (old) name. He either is really bad at removing all the traces of his past or really dumb... or both.
Or he just felt like changing his name because it's Steam and everybody changes their name sooner or later.

He also has the Bolt Boy in his workshop items and still has the bonkboy link on his profile, so perhaps he is not exactly trying to cover up but just changed his name.
Could be what you said too, though.

Its not actually ELO, ELO is for Chess Valve system is called Glicko-2
I wouldn't jump to judge people by only what you hear from them or what you assume about them. I have both bang and ronin on my friendlist because i'm using few of the mayann props that they were involved with, so i added them to friends that i could add them to the map credits. Both were quite nice and professional about that part, bang even cleared up few things for me.
I wont go into invasion, it was obviously something that caused Valve to change their way of doing future community updates for a good reason. Frankly, i prefer the new way, since many of us who were not even aware of invasion related update or end of the line can now participate freely.
Hopefully the Jungle stuff turns out good, and is a accurate representation of what the community can do, not just a bunch of beanies and a meme map.
.
Ignoring the drama surrounding Invasion, what it brought to the game was still fairly good. Sure, it didn't add new weapons with stats, but neither did EOTL or Robotic Boogaloo.
Plus, it was the first time Valve actually implemented a community gamemode completely.

"bang" (now "neodos") is a realy good friend of mine and i dont know if he made it public but he completely quit the tf2 community, he is working on his own personal projects now, thats all i can say about it since i dont want to speak for him, but he left the workshop a really LONG time ago
That figure was Zenomite's average estimate in his latest video, and also in how long it takes valve (but not always) to fix the botched rebalances of updates past.
Zeno is a babbling pessimist with an audience, just cause he says it doesn't mean it's true
It takes on average 2 years to get balance changes in this game.
I don't know why people are thinking that a finalized update will drop 7 days after a blog post that took almost a year to be posted.
Blades I know you've been playing this game for a long time, so I gotta say I'm pretty disappointed with you on this. You gotta start thinking and speaking for yourself and stop repeating talking points from people who are otherwise ignorant or uninformed.
Off the top of my head, every update with a major balance change for the past few years:
Love and War (Summer 2014)
Christmas 2014
Gun Mettle (Summer 2015)
Tough Break (Winter 2015)
Meet Your Match (Summer 2016)
There's about six months between each. Jungle/Pyro is thus far breaking the trend by being about a year since MyM.
I have no earthly clue where this "two years on average" figure comes from. The typical length of time that passes between our major updates was...about six months, even in the years preceding 2014, and balance changes/new additions were much more regular in that time.
I had no idea bang actually made a lot of items that are promotional or even just that many accepted item in general. I thought either Valve or the company the item was promoting made all those promotional items. He even made my favorite engie cosmetic the tools of the trade.
Guess you learn something new every day.

I believe they mean that rebalances for a specific weapon take 2 years. So for any given weapon that's poorly balanced, he's saying that valve will take on average 2 years to rebalance it. Nobody's claiming that major balance updates for the game are two years apart
Now I don't necessarily AGREE with their claim, there's a lot of subjectivity and randomness involved, but make sure you're arguing the right point here.

He said this in the context of a major update being released, so even if it isn't what Zeno was saying it was certainly what Blades seemed to be arguing.

I FUCKING KNEW THE NEEDLE GUN WAS CLEAR BEFORE.
[sp]Also I blame dx8 for a few of these lighting/prop features. I miss being able to see my pipebombs. [/sp]
And people blame ubisoft for making their trailers look better than the actual game when valve did it before it was cool
And people blame ubisoft for making their trailers look better than the actual game when valve did it before it was cool
Excuse me, but how is this relevant at all? This is a comparison between a game that was before and what happened to it with time because of performance and engine updates.
recompiling a map without the same tools or options is the fastest way to destroy it. mvm_mannhattan is the latest victim to it. Nice to see some extra samples in the video,
Didn't even realize the medigun / knife directly changed shape either.
As far as I know the pathetic c_models business is what killed the stuff like rotating barrels or sapper gibs. Aswell as making lightning terrible. Worst idea they ever came up with.
The decorated weapon system is also responsible for the loss of phong and whatever stupid stuff they did, such as forcing specular maps on things like the shotgun.
Medigun looks better than it did before
I hope this update isn't like invasion where the crate drops or whatever are based off of random drops, and everyone who already got all their drops for the week have to wait.
And people blame ubisoft for making their trailers look better than the actual game when valve did it before it was cool
these are both the actual game
Medigun looks better than it did before
No it has no spin animation
