This is what makes that even more infuriating, it was never implemented even back then.
hell someone even made a mod that fixed this FOUR years ago: http://gamebanana.com/skins/130414
I'd use it but OH WAIT SV_PURE
oh shit, Snowshoe sent this problem to valve a month ago

Good job, Snowshoe!
I don't really think a follow up is needed. Most of these changes have been overwhelmingly accepted by the community. I think we'll either get a new batch of changes or an update.
They only showed a fraction of the changes, some of them were questionable and met with disagreement while others were praised for being necessary and elegant in their approach.
If they're going to communicate with us the way they have done, it'd throw all progress out the window if they dropped an entire update on us without passing them by us first.

oh my god yes, the BLU Scout's pants being brown is so infuriating to me. I honestly don't see any point in enabling sv_pure on valve servers.

Honestly, fuck sv_pure 2, if there's something that I hated in Overwatch was the lack of customization. Now TF2 is walking in the same direction.

the tf2 contributor secret society is about as exciting as you'd expect

I'm really not sure what to say about sv_pure, on one hand, you should be able to play the game as you like, what's bad about someone playing with a different weapon skin/animation/model etc
on the other hand, it's just scary to think someone on your team might be playing like this
I can understand wanting to keep everyone on a level playing field, but there's no reason that I shouldn't be able to hear "PEPSIMAAAAAAAN" every time I kill someone.
I'd be fine if they made it so that certain mods were disabled (say, something that removes your viewmodel or turns everyone into a walking hitbox), but disabling stuff like texture fixes and taunt music is just a good way to turn everyone off.

The problem is with the way the game works, the files replaced to fix textures are the same ones that also can let you see through walls. So they would rather noone can use custom textures/models than have a couple of people use transparent ones that are undetectable by VAC.

mods???

dont worry harry, we all wanted it
They could start by re enabling custom viewmodel animations, I mean there's already a work around that just makes it take longer to boot the game

wait wot? I need that. Now!
wait wot? I need that. Now!
I believe the workaround involves booting up a private server on Itemtest then going to a valve server.
i had a dream about the engineer update. i remember being so young and ptimistic and full of life. i used to walk the dogs every evening, gleefully hoping that a new update page would've dropped in the time i was away
we probably won't have another multi-day update again. there will be a whole generation of TF2 players who never experienced the simple joys of the earlier updates, before all this complicated Hoogoba Jooba Mercenary-Grade Untithed Seventh-Level Flaming Hat of Hats (Slight Return) stuff.
:(
Weren't custom viewmodel animations disabled solely because people were using it to make no view models in competitive mode?

Meet Your Match was a 2 day update, I'm not sure why you would think they wouldn't do another multi-day update page again with the last big non Halloween update was a multi-day update.

I think he means multi-day as in each day reveals new items and sets along with new features and maps of their own, ala pyromania/uber update
every update is a multiday update when bugs are involved
I'm glad to see some actual reason as to why Invasion was bad other than "WE DIDNT GET TO FIGHT TUH ALIENZ!" and stuff. End of the Line was weird. I covered all the "history" of it at the time, and it was one of my first successful videos. (Unlisted Old Shit : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iydBOy_-5Q0). Problem was, McVee commented on it saying it was all incorrect, and terrible reporting. To this day, I still don't know what I got wrong in the reporting, and it started the whole "VNN Fox News" meme. There were early interviews that I referenced in the video that had McVee stating new weapons, however Valve changed the plans, and put the tide turner into Love and War. McVee then spent a while kinda throwing shit my way, and never really cleared up exactly what happened to all the things he hyped up originally in interviews. The whole situation was confusing.

Hm, fair enough, I think most the reasons then were just the overhype and lack of the map, which admittedly was pretty dumb.

i could see why valve didnt want someone to see this and it be someones first (and most likely last) impression of tf2.

Also, if they did fix the pants, his backpack, hat and shoes would need to be changed to match it as well.

I could see Valve revealing the Pyro weapons over several days.
There's enough extra features like the new maps, weapon skins, the new contract system, new cosmetics, changes to comp matchmaking and the rest of the balance changes to fill out multiple update pages.

I feel like it might be a 3 day update.
One for the campaign/balance page.
Two for the pyro page.
Three for the Jungle page.
Not necessarily in that order.
Also, it is extremely likely it will be next week. Like I said in the past, valve likes to release major updates when I am really busy. Next week, I wont be on TF2 due to work so that is when they will do it.
-snip-
The only scenario of the Update dropping today would be the usual TF Fuck-up where they release a 2day update in a single day (Think -> Tough Break)
The more realistic route is next week, the 6th, because:
1. Outside of the Summer Sale
2. 3 Weeks will have passed since playtesting has begun for community maps, which by widely speculation should be enough to ensure the content included
3. 2 Weeks will have passed since the Balancing Blog Post - normally this would be a counter argument, however since the blog post had such a positive reaction, there is no need for adjusting more than 1-2 things.
4. Early July.
