if it doesn't come this week, wouldn't that make it even later than MyM and, by extension, later than all of our previous summer updates?
Yes
If this update is not out this week and isn't perfect, valve will have seriously fucked up in my eyes. I'm sorry, but after a year of developing some stuff, if it isn't groundbreaking or absolutely perfect, you should find some new developers. Gun Mettle took 6 months. That was TF2's last update I would put in the Exceptional category. I'm perfectly fine with them taking their time to release something great, but no content in one year is just too much for me. If they don't release anything this week and the update sucks, boy oh boy will I be furious.

This is already the longest we've had to wait for a proper major update, and if it manages to still land later than our previous latest summer update, even with a full year of development...Christ. If nothing else, I do have a lot of faith in this update. The balance changes in the blog post seem to be...mostly oriented around competitive feedback and fix a lot of long-standing balance issues in this game, like Sandman bullshit and the worst part of Heavy's Love and War nerf. Unless they completely flub literally everything else, this update should at least be a serviceable one.

It has to be perfect if it's not this week. At least for me. If they fuck something up huge, I'm not sure if I'll be able to put faith in them anymore.
Well... for starters, what do you think of the balance changes proposed in the blog post, if perfect is so important to you?
Those are fine, but that's not the only content in the update. Balance changes don't really go perfect or awful to me, I don't judge them until I see them in action, and truthfully valve doesn't either so I crucify with digression on balance changes.
today confirmed as not "today"
today confirmed as not "today"
i pray tomoro will be the day.... i really really dont wanna wait another week...... especially since we all know the first week is only halfway able to play due to server overloads that always happen.
i pray tomoro will be the day.... i really really dont wanna wait another week...... especially since we all know the first week is only halfway able to play due to server overloads that always happen.
tomorrow is the 4th of july, that ain't gonna happen.
I imagine it won't happen till at least Wednesday. Tomorrow is always possible, but I just personally don't see it happening. Though I would always love to be proven wrong.
tomorrow is the 4th of july, that ain't gonna happen.
they can still schedule a blog post for 4th of july (and honestly I really think it'd be a huge missed opportunity if they didn't...), and valve games have had patches released on that day before
alright, so quick poll if you don't mind this week = agree next week+ = disagree
if they truly are working on weekends, last things they'd be bothered to do is work on a holiday.

I'm expecting a days notice for my questions, and I've not been sent anything. I will be saying when they respond, however I will be keeping the content in the video. However I already know someone will write up a recap on both reddit and mus.
as a fervent MvM follower I would say we're having it pretty easy in comparison.
gamemode ≠ entire game the same logic could be applied to arena and plr, other mostly-forgotten game modes hell the only reason people still play plr is because of hightower memes

We've had some of the balance changes in the blog post, so will it be about content or just more changes?
gamemode ≠ entire game the same logic could be applied to arena and plr, other mostly-forgotten game modes hell the only reason people still play plr is because of hightower memes
well MvM is so huge that it could be considered its own class. It has massive room for improvement and essentially runs on a system designed around content growth. It's responsible for a huge part of the market and requires constant real life money for decent experiences. so no I wouldn't put it with the one-hit clownery like medieval and such. It needs special attention and now we're pretty much on a 5 year draught lmao
plenty people play plr. Arena i could understand. still i dont really understand the whole "deprived of updates" mindset some of you people have. One would asume that if the only reason to keep playing this game are updates you'd had moved onto something else by now. You could claim valve isn't like they were in the past when we had two-three major updates a year and people got spoiled by that, but most of the folks that whine about the lack of those updates were not even around to experience that? it's ok if only a new batch of content moves you to find the game fresh and motivates you to keep playing, but anyone seasoned/involved enough with tf2's life cycle should be aware how things works by now.
It isn't like that for me at all. If anything, it's exasperation after years of having to abide horribly imbalanced weapons and the trolls that abuse them that compels me to yearn for Valve's attention.

People have different expectations for a game that's launched as a finished, premium product with little-to-no content updates (think Smash Bros Melee and a lot of Fighting Game Community games in general) than a game that's presented in a free-to-play context. Free-to-play games are expected to have at least semi-regular content updates to justify the steady flow of money being poured into the game by its supporters. I'd still play TF2 if its official support ended, but for right now the game is being "sold" as a service, meaning I expect maintenance and updates to justify the money and time I continue putting into the game. I especially expect this as a long-time player, and one experienced enough to care about balancing/performance issues being fixed before the game reaches its final form.
I've actually been wondering, what will the answers entail? We've had some of the balance changes in the blog post, so will it be about content or just more changes?
These are also on the first page of this forum. 1. How much pull did the team have in the development of the OST Vinyl? Are the new soundscape and unseen SFM pictures purposeful teasing? 2. Mr. Lombardi stressed Valve's push to Source 2, stating that "Source 2 is the future for every project." Does this apply to TF2? 3. Almost three years have passed since the introduction of the Mann Co. Beta Maps program. What is the status on Asteroid and Cactus Canyon? 4. How far into the future does the team look? How much of a future, in terms of years, do you see for TF2 at this point? 5. Late June/Early July? 6. How does the team divide labor to achieve such high goals? With a smaller team, how do you get the work done? 7. What are the benefits of tiered rarity with cosmetics in crates?
final form
this game will never be balanced enough that we can say there is an end goal of balance
this game will never be balanced enough that we can say there is an end goal of balance
final form in this context meaning when its support officially ends, which is bound to happen one day by the time that day comes, I'd like the game to have its various performance and balancing issues fixed. or, at least, mostly fixed.
performance
speaking of that, I really hope they've spent time working on performance for this update. it's supposed to be massive, right? the biggest update the game's ever received? i hope there's some massive improvements to performance. i want to be able to play competitive while also having my textures and models look like they're from HL1. fuck graphics, I want 60 fps edit: there's a mod for this but it doesn't actually improve framerate
Tomorrow for sure :vs:

They're spread way too thin doing way too many things for their size and stuff like TF2 is going to suffer (I know CSGO also recently went a very long time between campaigns as well). They should really have at least a couple hundred more employees given how much they're doing. Hopefully after they move into their new office later this month they'll start hiring more people.
Honestly, It seems like this week (or next week) will be the week so until then enjoy the holiday everyone.
Tomorrow for sure :vs:
Please tell me I'm not the only one who thought of this when I read that line. (also the video seems pretty relevant to us waiting for the update) (User was banned for this post ("Reaction Video" - Kiwi))
I have a feeling in my bones that it won't be this week, even though several other people here may disagree. Starting tomorrow, it will be exactly two weeks since the "Balance Changes" post came out. I believe that isn't enough time for Valve to review all the community feedback and finish balancing for Pyro/Demo/unlisted weapons.
