How exactly is the base jumper "useless" with less turn speed while deployed?
If the nerf is significant enough to render it comparable to a real parachute, then you will be a slow moving target in a predictable, often linear movement pattern making yourself a free kill without very much enemy effort.
What will be the point of using a weapon that guarantees that?
What reason is there to expect it to be comparable to a real parachute? I know it's vague, but "Reduced amount of air control while deployed by 50%" suggests to me that there will still be some air control there.

As I've said before, you should use the Mantreads if you want more freedom of movement in your jumps. Base Jumper is not for easy airstrafing anymore, and I don't think it was ever intended to be that way in the first place. It's supposed to let Soldier hover in the air and shoot rockets below him for a longer period of time, hence why it's paired with the Air Strike. The change does not make it useless.
I suppose we will have to see how far the change goes.
Snip
Momentary high ground until anybody starts shooting would rarely be worth losing all momentum, especially compared to his other secondary options.
have you...ever used the base jumper? it doesn't halt horizontal momentum at all. you deploy your parachute and you continue moving at the same speed.
What's the use case here? It's a worse option for bombing than the gunboats, since you're much easier to hit and take much more self-damage from rockets. Air strike combo? Air strike is a mediocre option anyway. I thought the whole point was that you were harder to hit from projectile classes. Now it has nothing, because hitting a stationary airborne target with pills is easier than hitting a soldier moving around or rocket jumping at full speed.
it's better for bombing in both HL and 6s right now. reducing its air control to what you would be able to do with a normal rocket jump, and removing the ability to abuse redeploys is not going to kill the weapon.

I just booted in a listen server to check it out and you're absolutely right, idk why I got it in my head that it cancelled your momentum, I think I might have confused it with some mod version of the item I had tried on a custom weapons server just after the base first got teased. That's what a year of barely playing the game due to lack of content does to you I guess. I'll have to take a closer look at mechanics before spouting off about them in the future

We did that over on TF2TightRope, but maybe other communities had a version too.
As a person who uses BASE regularly the main issue with it is that no one looks up. Stray bullets are very effective at knocking you off course and as a solder your expected to be a meatshield in both comp environments, while your up in the air you can't do that and any sniper or heavy worth their salt will shut you down. The BASE lives up to great potential when Demoman picks it up however, with him being able to call the shots as to when you can get close to him and when you can't but again, you have to expose yourself to heavies and snipers where it doesn't matter how much you strafe, your still getting shot.
Strangely enough the best weapon I've found to counter base bombers is the revolver. accurate and strong enough to stop them in their tracks. I make an effort to avoid spies that go stock because of how effective it is (Same goes for shortstop scouts).
Another interesting strategy used against me is soldiers jumping towards me to close the gap and either shovel or blast me to chicken giblets. it works mostly in the soldiers favor too.
In all honesty I do not trust valve one bit with balancing due to th short circuit and baby blaster fiascos and I doubt that -30% strafe reduction and limited redeploy is the only thing tacked onto it. I'm expecting an axtinguisher style nerf where the main point of the tool is directly hindered by nonsense counter intuitive to said tool.
I'm probably biased but I think that since its release it has been a worthy sidegrade to the majesty that is the gunboats and nerfing it would just reinforce the gunboats or shotgun metagame that 6v6 has stayed tried and true towards for better or worse.

You seriously think that they showcased some of the balance changes and asked for feedback, but they will say "fuck that" and just destroy the weapon for no particular reason? Did you even read that post? They even say what they think is the problem with the weapons and what is the goal. Why should they disregard what they made in the first place?
What I'm curious of is whether and how many days the update will consist of. We know bottom line it will have an SFM release, a sizable list of rebalances, contracts and pyro weapons. That's not even counting valve made and community made maps and any other surprises. One day wouldn't cover it, even two would be tightly fit but three leaves no room for a smooth release this week without overaligning the holiday.
Well they can of course make the update pages as big as they want (or even a Gun Mettle where it had 2 pages of updates on a single day) but given how much content this update is supposed to have I imagine we'll get at least a 2 or 3 day update.

Absolutely.

Update released; changelog:
> BASE Jumper
----> Shoot the parachute to destroy it
(this is not greentext, I'm mimicking the changelog format)
My guess: The Update comes next week at the earliest.
The blog post regarding jungle-themed workshop submissions was posted only 3 weeks ago and stuff needs time. QA and playtesting are important and time-consuming.
I hope I'm wrong.

You probably are.
I don't remember who did so, but several content creators and the like have said that the "community" part of the update is decided within 3-2 weeks.
From what I understand item creators don't usually know if their items are in the game ahead of time but map makers are usually contacted by Valve 1-3 weeks before the update ships.
We need another ban wave. As well as a more concrete anti cheat system. 5 casual games in a row had aimbots in them. A different person per casual game. I feel like I need to spell it out. Its not fun to play against. You have enemy teams who rarely make votes to kick the aimbot. Also, when I say aimbot, I am not meaning the sniper who could just be good and not have any hats. No, I mean the heavy with 2 medic attached to him and instant killing the team with crits and snapping to the cloak spy across the map.
Its just...not fun to play against.
The argument people can make is why not just leave and go to another server but it kinda would frustrate anyone who does this 5 times and find 5 different hackers.
This needs to be fixed.
The only hacker I've run into this week joined spector and spammed chat, nothing else. Kinda weird.

The bad news is we have no idea how long it's going to take to implement in CSGO (other than they had an early version working a couple of months ago) or how long it will take to implement to TF2 VAC.
Thisll sound stupid but in the case that comp will actually be a real gamemode, I'll kinda miss the hackers.
I had many games with friends where we played against hackers and won, every one of them behaving differently, it's kinda a minigame.
Sometimes we'll have to run fist of steel vacc heavy to distract the hacker so a soldier can bomb him, sometimes we'll have to run vacc sandman scout so someone can stun him, to make him unable to attack.
It's like mann vs. machine, which is appropiate, given hackers are machines.
Here's hoping for today.
Here's hoping for today.
If not today, tomorrow.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the only cheat program that Valve has bothered to do anything about is LMAObox? I wish ban waves were more often and that other cheat program users got banned too.
everytime a known content contributor or just testinglol rate predictions of the update hitting I get really nervous not knowing whether or not this is just their speculation or they know more than we do
Another day, another prediction! Let's be hypothetical - say the community somehow forces the TF team to push the update today, regardless of completion. What sort of content do you think would be missing at this point?

this late in development surely it's all just last minuite checks and tests, finalizing workshop picks and getting the final files in order for release.

It would probably be riddled with various bugs at the least.

The community isn't going to force Valve to release update early especially after MyM.

We don't know the exact state of development so for all we know it's another week or two away.
Assuming the TF Team don't release the update on a Friday (cause if something is broken we'll have to wait until Monday before it's fixed), and assuming it's at least a two-day update to generate some hype for "one of their biggest updates ever", any Wednesday is the latest we should expect the announcement for day 1. I hope it's today cause the uncertainty is painful (and it's the last week to get it out before the MYM anniversary on Friday), but regardless of when it does release, hopefully it will have been worth the wait. (haha see what I did there?)
I just want it to release thursday so I have something to motivate me through 3 days of busy working coming up if I gotta do that and have no Pyro update ughhhhhhh
