TF2 Vintage does try to emulate an older version of Team Fortress 2 just like this mod does except the time periods are different. This mod is about porting very early TF2 to Source 2013 while TF2 Vintage seems to focus more on 2009-2011 TF2.

I'll give it that, but it does seem like Vintage is including the ability to turn off airblast and engineer carry to allow a full on 2007. I just found it weird this cropped up a bit after Vintage did. In any case it;s interesting on both ends and I sorta hope the projects just combine their codebase and work on fixes, but that's wishful thinking on my end. Been enjoying vintage though so I can't complain

TF2V is just a fork of TF2C from before 4team.

After*. So far, they're like "remove features and call it new"
After*. So far, they're like "remove features and call it new"
To be fair I was never a fan of that extra stuff. I had high opes for classic and when they started adding stuff it gelt off. Not to mention the mod changed hands and the only real interest seemed to be due to the mod author guilt tripping people into playing lest he kill himself.
Also on a technical level it is new, just saying just because it lacks features the other does doesn't make any more or less worse or older. Both mods ultimately are trying to do two separate things.
Again, this is meant to be a port for other people to use. I'm not adding new stuff to it or even fixing bugs save for a couple of conveniences for server ops like gravetalk.
[editline]13th July 2017[/editline]
TF2 Vintage so far seems like exactly what you can achieve in TF2C by toggling a few server cvars.
tf2c_force_stock_weapons 1
tf2c_airblast 0
t2c_building_hailing 0
tf2c_building_upgrades 0
The next version will add even more cvars for a closer restoration of TF2007 experience (like restoring the old semi-auto pistol).
There was even a Stock only server running these settings. But I guess those people wouldn't know any better.

True, but playing TF2C leaves you open to the devs who have been known to jump into a server and abuse dev commands to win. part of the reason why the game's seen a fall off in users.
As for bug fixes I think you should really look into that too as it means that Vintage is going to pull ahead simply because they're going to bother to fix possible exploits in the system. That's just me, nothing kills a game, let a lone a fan mod faster than cheaters and exploiters.

Firstly, there's only one TF2C dev who is known for abusing console commands and they're no longer on the team. Plus the console command can no longer be used by devs anyway.
Secondly, I'm not intending to compete with anyone. This is supposed to be a port of the old code to be used by other modders. Nothing more, nothing less.

Oh, I doubt about that seeing their current level of technical execution.

I'm pretty sure the devs removed the ability for them to execute console commands on any server.
Do enough people still play this? I'd love to play if we can have get enough people for a game or if there is a daily/weekly time we all decide to go play at.

Awesome, I'm installing right now too
I know it's nitpicking but, can someone make a mirror of it outside MEGA? I just don't trust it with the fact that it asks me to register in order to bypass the transfer limit.

Funny, I don't get a transfer limit, yeah sure i'll make one for you.
EDIT: http://www.mediafire.com/file/7oc4yskcsvq4izj/tf_port_update.zip here's the update, others are still uploading ATM

I crashed when capping the B point on Granary. Just a heads up.
You need to install the update.
Pfftt. I'm dumb. Thanks, the game works way better better.
What is this?
1.0.1.8 is an old version of Team Fortress 2 dated February 2008 - this is before any major updates meaning it has no game modes other than CTF and CP, no unlockable weapons and no hats.
This is a port of that version from Source 2007 to Source 2013. It's intended to replace 1.0.0.9 release that has been going around recently since the original old builds of TF2 from 2007 are unsafe because they're running on old versions of Source 2007 which contain numerous security exploits. This port solves this issue as it runs on Source SDK Base 2013 which uses a modern version of Source. And it's available for Mac and Linux, too!
Additionally, modders can use the source code available from the link below to use this as a base for their own TF2 mod.
Notes:
- I will not add new features to this (with possible minor exceptions like tf_weapon_criticals). This is intended to be a direct port of 1.0.1.8 version with next to no changes. So don't ask.
- I will not fix bugs with the exception of crashes and bugs that weren't present in the original Feb 2008 build (such as bugs caused by the engine transition).
Installation:
Client:
1. Go to the Tools section in your Steam Library and install Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer.
2. Download the client package and extract its contents to <Steam>\steamapps\sourcemods.
3. Download the update and extract its contents into tf_port directory replacing any existing files.
4. Get steam.inf from <Steam>\steamapps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Multiplayer\hl2 and put it into tf_port folder. This is a temporary workaround for a bug in Source 2013 where steam.inf is not loaded from shared folders properly.
5. Restart Steam. "Team Fortress 2 1.0.1.8 Port" should appear in your Steam library.
NOTE: If you're on Linux or Mac, Steam client currently has a bug where it doesn't attach -steam parameter when running Source mods like it's supposed to and launch parameters in Library stopped working for Source mods at some point. To launch the mod on Linux/Mac, run ~/.steam/steam.sh with the following params: -applaunch 243750 -steam -game <full_path_to_mod>
Server:
1. These instructions assume you know how to host a dedicated server for TF2 and/or other Source games. If you don't, refer to these articles:
https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Steamcmd
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Windows_dedicated_server
https://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Linux_dedicated_server
2. Use SteamCMD to download app 244310 (Source SDK Base 2013 Dedicated Server).
3. Download the server package and extract its contents to where you installed Source SDK Base 2013 Dedicated Server.
4. Download the update and extract its contents into tf_port directory replacing any existing files.
5. Get steam.inf from <server_install_folder>\hl2 and put it into tf_port folder. This is a temporary workaround for a bug in Source 2013 where steam.inf is not loaded from shared folders properly.
6. If you're on Linux, go to <server_install_folder>\bin and make copies of the files as follows:
soundemittersystem_srv.so -> soundemittersystem.so
scenefilecache_srv.so -> scenefilecache.so
7. Run it like you would normally run SRCDS but specify "tf_port" as an argument for "-game" parameter.

EDIT 1: Hotfix for a client crash related to killfeed. Also fixed kill icons not working for most weapons.
Well it seems the game died within a short period of time. This happened because no ones makes this a thing as they did with TF2 Classic, if we want this to be successful, nicknine maybe some day could make this port somehow more accessible for the ones who doesn't know sh<3t about installing this mod (i had no problem at all btw, pretty easy for me to install everything), but it would help a lot for the newbs, that, and we need to get more people by posting on every forum and uploading videos about this, that would help a lot i guess, since most of the veterans miss the old TF2.
Also some technical problems, most soundscapes on the maps doesn't work, they just don't load once you're near it, others work, others doesn't, not sure if this is an actual past bug or happened for the port itself. And wtf with ctf_well? It doesn't have the same layout from the one we know and i'm pretty sure it doesn't hurt to port it correctly from the current TF2 since it haves the same textures and such. Still, it doesn't bother me THAT much, just trying to help and keep this project alive, i truly hope we can.
EDIT 1: A new steam group would help too, should i try posting about this project on Steam Discussions, Reddit and here in Facepunch?
EDIT 2: I moved a 2010 version of ctf_well into this mod and everything works perfect with the exclusion of a stair-prop and the building where it hides the train when it switches the model from the real one to the skybox model. If no one can port the missing models then at least remove the current ctf_well which was clearly modified from cp_well. It's just stupid changing the game mode from a CP map.
You do realize Nicknine is a lead developer of TF2C, right? This game doesn't need updates. It's release TF2. Bugs and all.

This is for historical purposes. The upside is that it can be used as a base for other mods.
This isn't something like 2007scape.

Nicknine never states it's for historical purposes, never read that from him, and the upside is great but it is only as an addition, this project was meant to be played by those nostalgic fans to learn appreciate modern TF2 as it said in the original post (https://www.reddit.com/r/tf2/comments/2pzehm/come_play_tf2_1009_from_2007_with_us/), but rip, no one really seems to care, sad thing... Guess we'll just have to move to shitty OW or better yet Dirty Bomb which is a decent shooter.

EDIT: This is why i hate Facepunch, it's rating system is very controversial.

Any more updates are currently unlikely.
This is probably a bad idea, but I still want to ask.
Could I take only the Client build of this, strip out what I see as "unnecessary", and package it as a "Lite/Standalone" version of the game for map making?
This is both a 'could-I' and a 'should-I' sort of question.
[editline]29th January 2018[/editline]
On second though, considering how light this download is already, this is unnecessary. Nevermind!
