Btw, that E3 clue we got, that means we are gonna get a trailer or something like that of Portal 2 at E3 right?
I thought those pics are some super awesome concept art.
If they add a completely new lighting system, I really hope Garry's Mod switches to the new engine. Of course it would be just eye candy, but it would be noticeable, awesome eye candy. I always wanted a sandbox game with completely dynamic lighting.
The only game with true dynamic lighting which I ever played was Deus Ex Invisible War.
Why in the fucking fuck of all fucks would they make Portal 2 over Counter Strike 2? Fuck you, Valve. I'm sick of this new-age, super cool features built into singleplayer games. I want Counter Strike 2. Do they not understand the profit they would make off of it? Do they not understand how powerful of a grip they have on the competitive PC gaming world?
The screenshots in the magazine articles had a slight air of falseness about them. They may be bullshots, the lighting and quality looks too high to be Source doing it itself. Though if they are real, I expect most, if not all lighting to be static pre-rendered lighting like the current system, just vastly improved, and hopefully dynamic lighting will be less expensive to render, most modern engines have to this down perfectly, Source really needs to catch up with the dynamic lighting. The model self shadowing looks pretty nice, if it is actually in the final builds of the engine and not just in this possible display build to show off concepts.

Am I the only one who's excited about dynamic fucking liquid?
Am I the only one who's excited about dynamic fucking liquid?
I'm excited about that too. I just thought the article was a little vague about it, for such an important thing. I mean, if the paint really is dynamic, that would be amazing, but it could be done some other way.
Valve did it again. The extreme hype-state I remember from 2007.
Am I the only one who's excited about dynamic fucking liquid?
Yeah, because you're one of the only ones who doesn't realize that they're probably not talking about fluid simulation. It's a lot more likely to be something like the L4D2 Spitter's acid—capable of "spreading" and "dripping" but in a very simple way.
Personally, i think Valve should concentrate a bit less on pretty graphics and a bit more on physics and immersiveness. Starting on Gordon's feet and a worldmodel. They could do it in Zeno Clash (which is Source), you can more or less do it in Gmod; why not EP3?

Tbh, it wasn't really... feet. It didn't really exist, it was just a model underneath. The camera was still just mounted on a certain position above the ground, not on a real model.

But I dont think that is what Valve is doing for this dynamic liquid they mentioned. Its very hard to create some close to as realistic liquid using particles without heavy frame loss. I dont know how valve has done this dynamic liquid but Im 90% sure it is not made using the particle system.
They're not making any dynamic liquid, it's just gonna be decals for the paint. Also, the spitter acid always faces up which makes it look shitty on slopes :/
Valve did it again. The extreme hype-state I remember from 2007.
Valve never lets us down, we can get hyped safely now :woop::woop::woop::woop:
Nobody cares about CS2. CSS was shitty, and Portal 2 will be, well... more interesting than CS2.
I don't think a game is shitty if I can fetch 16000+ servers right now...
I don't think a game is shitty if I can fetch 16000+ servers right now...
MW2 is pretty shitty and yet, more than 200.000 people play it everyday. (Yes, I own MW2, don't hate, k)
Why doesn't Valve get Euphoria? Not just for Portal 2. Because that wouldn't make sense. But For Half-Life 3 or Episode 3. [editline]11:39AM[/editline] also for GMod :iia:
Holy shit yes! Please Valve tell me that you have added true dynamic lightning and shadows now. Not just a damn flashlight. Before you can even consider it, they must be interested in you. That's why only Rockstar has gotten it. Because they make some of the most popular games ever. Valve are great too but I suppose Natural Motion aren't interested in them.

I think those are the "fake" HL2 shadows, just improved
