Serious Sam and Second Encounter Editor (Serious Editor?)
They way you make primitives and how you carve holes and make rooms should be that way IN EVERY EDITOR!
After using hammer for years and only just getting into unreal ed like a couple of days ago, I can say unreal is possibly the best all around editor you can find at the moment, without a doubt. Hammer and source are absolutely nothing compared to unreal and unrealed. Of course I mean the latest of both. Some things are different, some things I don't like, but it's very powerful and considering hammer has far far far far more faults, you can't really hate it too much. It raises the bar so much higher, and unreal games immediately show it.
I could never get my head around the Unreal editor even though I'm fine in hammer.
Whats FP:IP ????
It's FC:IP, and he obviously said in the post it's FarCry: Instincts Predator
Oh yeah, and ArmA II is gonna be my new favorite editor, if I can figure it out when I get it.
I still can't get my head around subtractive brushwork in the UnrealEd. I just can't :(
You know that you can set it to additive right?
as a clarification the default SC editor sucks compared to 3rd party ones like ScmDraft 2
ScmDraft 2 for Sc is fucking kick ass
Aurora or whatever the NWN toolset was.
Each editor has it's own benefits. Hammer fucks up on some stuff and so does crysis on others. Each editor is good at its own thing I think.
I love the Wc3 editor.
Best editors... hm...
If I had to choose:
- Aurora for incredible user-friendliness (not-so-much with Electron, though I enjoy some of its aspects)
- Serious Editor for mechanical complexity
- Hammer for being the most swiss-army without losing user friendliness
- UE3 for realtime editing and in-editor shader networking
- Sandbox for its approach to scripting and support of Voxels (I <3 voxels)
But my overall, all-time, favorite...? It is hard to choose but if I had to choose I'd choose to work with QuArK due to my long-time history with it and its seemingly infinite adaptability and versatility; it also helps that it's completely free-of-cost. Granted, it's an old one and it definitely is showing its years but it by far has provided me the most comprehensive and easy-to-use interface while delivering as a content-creation package throughout my many years of trying out new level design software.
(The worst editors I've ever used were: Build (Duke3d), FRED and FRED2 (FreeSpace, FreeSpace 2), and DromEd (Thief, Thief 2) for either their inherent complexity and lack of meaningful documentation or support or due to their incredibly steep (in some cases near-insurmountable) learning curve; or in Build's case, for just being a lazy patch-work system that at many times doesn't behave as it should whatsoever (having rooms inside of rooms which occupy the same amount of space but one room is, say, 300 times bigger).
I've only used two editors, Oblivions, Fallout 3's (GECK etc) and Hammer.
I'd have to say GECK is much easier to use and you can edit weapons in the editor instead of having to make a mod like in Half-life 2. But Hammer just seems funner to use imo.
Heroes of Might and Magic 3 Map Editor and of course, Hammer.
so much fun with the HoMM3 editor
The easiest i ever used was Far Cry 2 and Crysis, but for the best map editor it's got to be hammer
i think it's well established now that that the wc3 editor is the best for RTS, despite its age
You know that you can set it to additive right?
Also if you're talking about unreal 3, then you want pretty much everything you can to be models. Brushes are for testing etc, not the final thing. Besides we're in 2009 now and making things out of blocks is just silly.

uh actually the official maps use a lot of brush work, just take a look with the editor
and additive was also in UE3 engine, not only in UE4
How has no one said The Geck?!
Guys, the editor in wc3 is like one of the kings of map editors.
I fucking love FC2's editor. As in, man-love.

:ughh:
-snip-
How could you possibly make a map using a console is what I want to know
Doom Builder is the easiest and best level editor i know.
Hammer is a nice editor, though Sandbox 2 has some nice features (Really like that it doesn't need to compile and it shows EXACTLY what it would look like ingame).
TESIV: Oblivion Construction Set
Seriously. :v:
Battlecraft 1942
You could make awesome maps with dat shit. It's like the FC2 editor but in waaaaay bigger and with looots of vehicles and armies and textures and models.
You mean Battlefield? If not then :frown:
1. Battlefield 1942 Editor (so easy I liked dit.)
2. Hammer (but I see I'm not so good with terrain and shit.)
Loads of people are saying FarCry 2 but I haven't seen any really good maps for it, can anyone post an example of what can actually be done with it? Or is it just how easy it is that makes it great?
The TimeSplitters editor was epic fun at sleepovers. It literally took like 20 minutes to make a great map. Making bases and such was fun and easy, and it was also pretty easy to add objects, weapons, and lighting. Nothing too complex, but a lot of potential.
