Watch the video, it stays very close to the original and you can even swap seemlessly between the new and the old look. Which makes me wonder if this is still Scumm.

And it's officially fucking awesome that the "ask me about LOOM" guy is still there in the remake. I wonder if he's going to say something different now that Loom is really old? Like gilbert said himself, I always thought this closeups didn't really fit with the cartoony theme of the rest of the game. I really like MI 3's design, and the new one stays very true to it.

I grew up on SCUMM games. So I am seriously overjoyed.
I actually really liked the way Sam and Max games played out, they were pretty fluid and a lot of fun. I'm not too hot on the art style but I will remain optimistic. The real gold of the Monkey Island series was in the writing. So lets hope it's as awesome.
Also it's nice to see it return to point and click. Fuck teh Lua engine with a knife. It worked in Grim Fandango, but not in Monkey Island.

Super nostalgia just hit me. Thanks for that. I love how the characters were drawn instead of rendered, adds a nice touch to the game. I wish this new MI game stuck to the MI3 style.
My point is that the character design is just the same! Look at the two Guybrush:
